This set, often referred to as the Urban mix, masterfully blends a selection of popular 80s dance music with one alternative dance mix and a handful of chart-topping pop tracks. Developing this mix involved two weeks of careful track selection and editing to achieve the perfect blend and feel. A standout feature is the innovative mashup of Grandmaster Flash's anti-drug song "White Lines" and Herbie Hancock's "Rock It"— a fusion that beautifully showcases the evolution of 80s dance music. This volume includes the irresistible rhythm of Janet Jackson's "Nasty," and the unforgettable beat of Rob Base & DJ EZ-Rock's "It Takes Two." There's the innovative fusion of rock and rap in Run-DMC's "Walk This Way," and the pioneering electro-funk sound of Herbie Hancock's "Rock It." The unforgettable melody of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam's "I Wonder If I Take You Home" and the ultimate party anthem of Salt N Pepa's "Push It" ensure the mix embodies the essence of 80s dance music. Laid Back's "White Horse" and George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" deliver doses of synthesized beats that characterize the era, while Prince's "D.M.S.R." offers a taste of his unique fusion style. Lastly, Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" serves as a reminder of rap's humble beginnings before it exploded in the following decade. Each track in this compilation adds a unique flavor to the mix, crafting a rich and immersive 80s dance music experience. So, put on your dancing shoes, and enjoy this nostalgic trip back to the era that changed dance music forever. Until the next time...ENJOY! A significant part of the 80s was the rise of Hi NRG, epitomized by Patrick Cowley's remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and his later contributions to the genre, such as "Menergy" and "Megatron Man". This volume also nods towards the gay community and the movement they helped define, which was deeply intertwined with the Hi NRG genre, as their music provided the soundtrack to a time marked by the emergence of AIDS. Featuring an eclectic lineup, it juxtaposes tracks like Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" with When In Rome's "The Promise" creating an authentic 80s vibe. You'll find Madonna's "Into The Groove", Whitney Houston's "Love Will Save The Day", and Shannon's "Let The Music Play" among the mix, illustrating the varied landscape of 80s dance music. Several tracks in this mix have been meticulously remastered from their original vinyl versions, ensuring authenticity while delivering quality audio. Notably, Madonna's "Into The Groove" has been shortened to maintain cohesion and Whitney Houston's "Love Will Save The Day" retains minor imperfections, reflecting the charm and texture of the period's music production. This collection promises a nostalgic dive into the 80s dance music scene, encapsulating the era's sounds and the emotions they stirred. So turn the volume up and enjoy the rhythmic journey back to the 80s! Until the next time...ENJOY! Album: The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 2Genre: 80’s DanceYear: 2019Total Time: 02:01:06 1. This collection celebrates the decade's dynamic shifts in dance music, amalgamating the standout tracks from our previous sets including Pure Energy, Pump Up the Volume, Hit That Perfect Beat!, and the Back 2 the 80s series. The 80s music scene began on the foundation laid by disco. As the decade progressed, a transition towards synth-driven beats began to define the era's sound. This evolution is encapsulated in Duran Duran's "All She Wants Is", a song that perfectly captures the synthesizer-led trend of the mid-80s. The underground scenes of Chicago and New York gave birth to a fresh genre midway through the 80s - house music. This style's mainstream breakthrough arrived by 1989 with Soul II Soul's club and pop radio hit, "Back To Life". Anthony & The Camp's "What I Like" exemplifies this rising house sound with its Extended Dance Mix, blending pulsating rhythms and layered vocals. Grace Jones' "I'm Not Perfect", embodies the genre-blending spirit of the period, infusing reggae, new wave, and pop into a dancefloor-ready anthem. The late 80s also saw an explosion of pop dance tracks like Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance" which combined hip-hop elements with dance beats, becoming a defining sound of the era's end. As the transitions between styles might seem stark due to the vast musical diversity we're showcasing, this compilation's richness encapsulates the multifaceted spirit of the 80s dance music era. Immerse yourself in these sonic gems that paint a vivid picture of a pivotal decade in dance music. Enjoy this trip. It is a trip. Countdown is commencing! I've got enough to likely make a third set and maybe even throw in a New Wave version as well. If I do, I'll post those later in the year. Originally, this was going to be one giant 4-hour set but I decided to split it in two. When you're working with those many songs at once, mistakes are bound to happen. In this case, I duplicated the fantastic Gwen Guthrie #1 club classic "Ain't Nothin Goin on but the Rent." Maybe I just liked the song so much I used it twice LOL. Anyway, I didn't bother fixing it. I just wanted to ensure ya'll know I'm aware of the mistake. I'll be back next week with a massive new set of something. I'm not saying what, so we'll just let it be a surprise. After releasing the Trash Disco series last year, I knew I had to move a decade up as the genre that defined "dance" and "disco" has substantially changed with the introduction of the drum machine and synthesizers. You'll notice the snare drum is prominent in many of the songs as it was used for timing and transition throughout most of the songs. It's easy to pick up on as this was a mainstay of the dance genre of the era. Even though these took over a week to put together, the actual process was fairly easy. The very DJ friendly (unauthorized) remixes by DJ services like Ultimix, Razormaid, and Hot Tracks (among the most popular) were designed for easier transitions between songs in a live setting. I won't bore ya'll with how a lot of this was achieved but it was not unlike what I was doing with two Nakamichi tape decks at the time. The only song that was poorly structured and frankly a hot mess was "Freeway of Love" by Aretha Franklin. It starts off easy enough but quickly loses its timing by 1/8 beat throwing off the entire mix. Because it was unusually long for a mix during this period, it required a great deal of editing which I had to do manually to get it to work. The end result was flawless and well-worth the effort. Back 2 the 80's is a two-part set with the second one dropping tomorrow. After the massive success of the of my previous 80's efforts (Pure Energy, Pump Up the Volume, and Hit That Perfect Beat) I'm guessing these will satisfy your Reagan-era dance lust. I've gone back and provided more coherence to my ramblings so as to follow-up with this final set. These days, I've got a lot of ideas running through my tiny brain and the more I read in the Washington Post and the New York Times about our government, the more angry I get. I try to stay away from the Huffington Post because it's becoming more and more like the progressive left version Breibart (an alt-right nationalist rag). Mind you, I'm not talking about go out and blow-up a bunch of people anarchistic anger but definitely there is a frustration as to how I can channel what I'm seeing into what it is I already do and how that ties in with the electronic music that I promote on these very pages. This leads me to my final musings of the electronic dance music of the 80's. One of the genres I intertwined with this series was called 'industrial', which was an offshoot of punk. It was poetry laced with anger set to a repetitive electronic beat. While the lyrics to songs like 'Headhunter' by Front 242 and 'Join in the Chant' by Nitzer Ebb may be simplistic, their relevance today cannot be understated. Mixed in with the sugar-coated more commercial elements of the movement, the meaning gets lost. Taken by themselves, the anger and frustration of the times was as illuminating then as they are pertinent today. To be frank, I don't what these groups politics are and the left definitely do not have the market cornered on rebellion. Right now you're probably scratching your head thinking to yourself 'what the fuck does this have to do with anything; I just like these songs and remember them well???' For those that have read my posts over the years, understand that I've been a predictor of dance music trends since I started Party Favorz in 2007. The easiest way to do that is look at what's going on in the underground. Beatport has been a good indicator of that since I started this site. What I'm seeing and hearing is a ton of music that's moving away from the EPIC to a darker and more sinister pinning of electronic dance. It's not a mistake that Prok & Fitch with Green Velevet's 'Sheeple' was number for all of January and is still in their top ten. Don't get me wrong. I will continue to deliver the light and frothy commercial dance music we've all come to know and love from my podcasts. That will never change but... ...I do fully expect continued darkness in the music but with sharper and more pointed political messages in the very near future. I'm just waiting for the DJ's and producers to properly channel their anger into something that grabs a wider audience rather than the curre...

The primary focus over these three volumes includes industrial music and it's more commercial off-spring. If anyone watches AMC's 'Catch and Halt' Fire' you get a really good feel for the time, the music and the burgeoning scene in computers in the early 80's. My best friend Dan had purchased a used Mackintosh from the local pawn shop along with a dot matrix printer. You know the kind, the paper had holes down the side so it could move along as it was being printed. The only thing he could really do on his computer was type his school papers and print them. Of course, he could also play ping pong or space invaders, which was pretty cool. Dan took his passion for computers and landed a gig with the burgeoning Dell computers there in Austin. Everybody knows who Dell is, so I'd say Dan is sitting pretty at the movement. Our other friend SJ or Sequoya disappeared off the face of the earth when his father called him back home for good. He had a drinking problem that he just couldn't keep under control, which was a shame because he was a super nice guy. I think he's married and a lawyer now or something. Then there's Dale. An unfortunate accident stemming from a nasty divorce that had left him permanently scarred and financially ruined took him years to get out from under it. Last I heard, he found his calling and was living in a commune smoking a bunch of pot. Me, I was just s shithead going to clubs on 6th street in Austin and sneaking out at night to hook up with some strangers in an alley. It wasn't until ten years later that I purchased my first computer at the end of the semester in 1998 and spent the winter break taking it apart and putting it back together again to better understand how it worked. That was the point I officially became a geek. The music at the time stands for itself and I'll go into more of its darker underpinnings in the next post. Until then...ENJOY! In typical fashion, I try to do something that's not so obvious, which better reflects who I was and what I was into by the end of the decade which was the 80s. I was a disco kid heading into high school and dabbled in Punk and New Wave but then quickly adjusted my tastes to fit in with the other kids. AC/DC (who I still love), Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, and down the line fueled me. By the end of the decade, I was the preppy kid hanging with the cool kids dressed in black with earrings and eyeliner (much to the dismay of my parents) listening to the coolest music by New Order, Erasure, Depeche Mode, etc., and smoking a lot of pot while occasionally dropping acid. It's not a path I would recommend to anyone today but if I'm being real... It was the decade of Vans (which I had), OP (Ocean Pacific for the uninitiated), Levis 501 button-fly jeans, Izod, and shitty (hideous) clothing from Oak Tree and the Limited; Just look at any Rick Astley video or even Depeche Mode and you'll understand. For the most part, I was a geek with good taste in music (or at least I like to think so). Truth is, I'm a music addict. I enjoy almost all forms of it from the crude and crass (Dead Kennedys, Plasmatics) to the most commercial (Tiffany, Debbie Gibson). I can't explain my tastes but they run the whole spectrum. These next three sets reflect a certain period of my life that I fondly remember. Many of today's artists are diving back into the pool for inspiration, so don't be surprised if something sounds all too familiar. Frankly, after working my magic, these songs have never sounded better. ENJOY! Album : Hit That Perfect Beat! | BackSpin 80'sArtists : VariousGenre : ElectronicLength : 1:27:42 1. The allure of the Pet Shop Boys is eternal; it’s a fact I was vividly reminded of during a laid-back evening with Rick, my other half and the ultimate ‘pethead’ among us. He was stirring up something magical in the kitchen while I queued up a mega-mix of PSB tracks I’d crafted back in 2007. ...Read More, Stream and Download The post The Eternal Allure of the Pet Shop Boys: A Tribute Mix appeared first on Party Favorz — Dance Music Podcast.
