You’ve probably heard of Romeo & Juliet, but what about Romeo & Juliet on the Border? This “Living Textbook” production was created by Arts Based School Arts Director Mary Siebert to blend a slew of core curriculum requirements from a variety of disciplines into one fantastic production. That production is Romeo & Juliet on the Border. The one-hour production returns next month to The Arts Council Theatre in Winston-Salem. Mary stopped by Studio A with student actors Gary Whitt, who played Romeo, Sophie Garau who played Juliet, sopranos Ruth Kelly, Emily Brooks, boy soprano Ben LeFevre and violinist Vivian Mayers for an in-studio performance and interview.
The Arts Based School in Winston-Salem is a public charter K-8 school. Their production of Romeo & Juliet on the Border runs Thursday March 10th and Friday the 11th at 7pm in The Arts Council Theatre, 610 Coliseum Drive.

Caleb and his band spent 10 fourteen hour-long days recording the album at Fidelitorium studios in Kernersville.
You can check out the CD or vinyl at Caleb’s concert this Thursday, February 25th at The Garage in downtown Winston-Salem.

Next month Helen Simoneau Danse will present a new work inspired in part by Helen’s French Canadian background. You can attend a free movement class led by Helen Simoneau and her dancers from 2:00-3:30pm on Saturday, February 27th. And at 3:30pm there will be an open rehearsal of Helen’s new choreography. Eddie shares that the Community Innovation Lab of Winston-Salem presents Intersections and Conversations: Race, Class and Power. Its a screening and discussion of the film Honky, a provocative satire about racism in contemporary America.
David Ford says that even though the "art" of ping pong is probably a stretch, he's breaking all the rules so you don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity. He says the speed, spins and athleticism involved in table tennis is truly awesome. Tickets for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Table Tennis Trials went on-sale back in November. The event will take place at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex’s Special Events Center from February 4-6, 2016.
Bethany mentions that the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County is issuing a call for art for its new art in unexpected places project, ArtPop. “Artist + Public Outdoor Project = ArtPop” promotes local artists’ original works through the use of donated outdoor advertising space. Works by five artists who reside in Forsyth, Stokes, Davidson, Surry, Davie, or Yadkin counties will be chosen for the first year of the program.
Artists working in all media are encouraged to submit photographs of original works of art for consideration. Artists must be at least 18 years old and are required to submit a photograph and description of the work, an artist statement, and a biography. All submission materials must be digital and submitted to smorris@intothearts.org by February 29.
