What was really cool the last few years were three separate friends blasting one of my house mixes in their cars and they were in some warm tropical paradise, Jaimaica, South America or Mexico and took short 1min videos and sent them to me. It was a great poor man's vacation. I could picture being with them in the heat with my music blaring out of their cars. House music is such a connector.__________________ Thank you. dattrax: 'Electric City' is a tribute to the city we love and where we fell in love with house music, Toronto. A tribute to its community of house music DJs, producers, promoters, club owners, everyone involved, and then all the party people/ the dancers (including those of us who can't dance but love to ;) This is a tribute to the house we got into, grew into, grew up in, and fell in love with each time we heard these tracks. A huge hi-five, hug and thank you to all the singers, producers, and DJs that made and played these tracks!! 'Classic House' is a shifting definition... just depends on when you got into house music and when those first 5 to 6 formative years were for you. For us, tracks made in 1985-1996 are considered 'classic' but we started partying in 1990, and from 1990 to 1996 we were privileged to have heard and danced to the earlier tracks. For "Electric City", I wanted to go for the 'what old is new again' intent, so it's not entirely a classic house mix because it contains some instrumental tracks that were created past '96 and I included covers and remixes of classics that had the same feel, had great sound quality and didn't care when those were actually produced. For the regular classics, the sound quality was paramount also but had to make exceptions for "Move" and "Music Take Me Up" because they are such wicked tracks (which were my poor attempts at transferring my vinyl to digital). I'm sorry but on "Emotions Electric" was a CD version I bought at Sam The Record Man (sadly not in biz anymore)... back to my apology, I cranked the bass too much so... Over 5yrs ago, I wasted almost two months in the cracks of time between work and family recording a crate and a half (150 records) into my computer. Realised afterward that because I had a crappy sound card the digitized tracks were flat sounding). After that Jim and I just started buying classics on Beatport, Traxsource, Itunes, and Defected, and probably 90% of the time the sound quality was excellent. Got a few classic tracks from friends like Eric Ling, Gene King, Devon Wills, and Tyrone Solomon. Then Roberto Pinto told me about Discogs and all my classic house vinyl dreams are gonna come true. We keep saying but bear repeating: "This is the best time for house music. Period!" As always, we hope you enjoy this mix and that it gives you that house feeling from head to toe. House music has been an outlet for my negative emotions since I was 14. Whenever I do anything related to house, hunting for tracks that move me, dancing, listening or mixing house. Even talking with friends about house.__________________Ever have a terrible year full of things happening to you over and over that were negative? That were almost all the result of your poor choices?  Have you ever sat down and taken inventory on the things you've gone through?  I'm already writing a novel here, but/however, just want to share one observation. Hopefully this good fortune cookie can help you with a better 2026. __________________Perspective is Everything. We control the direction of the movement of our subconscious, or to put it in another way, it’s our reaction to any given person or circumstance that is important, not the person or circumstance itself.  If we view a situation as negative or positive, then our mind will obey that direction we give it and find ways to prove us right. __________________It’s crazy that we can be in a great mood and then one piece of news makes us angry or extremely negative, or the opposite where we’re in a terrible mood, then one thing happens and we’re super happy.  Why is that? dattrax: Welcome my Fellow house music Friends. Have you had one of those rare days where 6-7 things go wrong and you're on your knees praying because you're so broken? I had one of those days last December. From 10am till past midnight. EVERYTHING went wrong. One after another. LMAO. If I described that day, then no one would believe it. Plus, I'd sound like I'm whining, which is not what I want to do. I only visit the past to gather insights, NOT to wallow in my negativity. We're NOT victims. We all go through negative stuff. Probably not as bad as other people, even though we don't want to compare. (Comparison is the basis of discouragement because we compare our valleys to someone's hilltops). All we can control is our reaction to the circumstances as they occur. As bad as any day, it'll have to end soon. Hold on to that. House music heals and restores. This is a 2nd attempt for this batch of beautiful vocal house tracks that I wanted to include in this mix of healing, and it's one of my most personal mixes. We don't value beauty and art without going through the dark times. I hope and pray that you get on top of your circumstances. That you forge ahead with a smile on your face and a great attitude. The only singer who doesn't need a crew of backup dancers to mesmerize a crowd. She just sways and sings. Style.  Her CD albums and live concert videos are WORTH EVERY PENNY.  I have all her CDs, house mixes and just need her live DVDs (have some live VHS tapes). I first listened to 'Diamond Life' album when I was 15 w/ my first walkman (you'll have to Google that to find out that it's a portable cassette player, then you have to Google to find out what that means). This mix is a tribute to her in the only way we know-how- by putting most of our favourite Sade House Bootleg tracks into a single mix. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!!                                                   Hello from Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Fellow House Fiends Everywhere!!  This virus lockdown BS madness has not ended after almost two years. Of course not! When power and money are involved, well, you know how this story ends. Always follow the money and that's what the story really is about because it's not about public health and safety. Yours or mine. Enough of my rant. It is what it is. This is our new reality. Geez.  Jabbed or not, let's not judge or treat each other badly, we all have our reasons for choosing either. Let's respect that as we're all different, with different lives, concerns, kids or no kids, constraints, jobs, temperaments, desired outcomes, etc. We (Jim and I have been best friends & DJ partners when we spin live for over 30yrs!!) hope that you're doing what you can to make sure that you're doing well. "Your happiness is paramount". As the great comedian and philosopher, Patrice O'Neal has preached many times in his life. RIP. If you are not well, then it'll affect those around you that need you. It trickles down from you to your family and friends, your co-workers, your company, the communities that you belong to, online and offline. One day at a time. One problem at a time. Just do what you can handle and control and don't worry about the rest. It's the worrying that slowly kills us. We hope that Danny Tenaglia doesn't get mad that his famous, "Music is the Answer" classic house anthem's name has been taken, tweaked, and is now the name of this mix. LMAO!! The first track is a vinyl that I bought in 1998, and then a digital copy from Traxsource a year or so again. It'll set the right tone for you. The first track of a mix or of a live set is my favourite first part because it's the first contact with the dancers or your listeners. Sadly and frustratingly, this mix took 12 attempts, yes, LMAO. I had originally bought a batch from Traxsource of 24 hawt tracks. That took a month to listen to 2,000 tracks at 2-5 seconds each, then I had 120 tracks in my digital crate, then it took two weeks in the cracks of time between work and life to dwindle that down to 24, then I had to wait a week to get the 30% email promo from Traxsource. It's a journey. Then spent hours finding what I felt would be fun mixed with these new tracks. Mixed a few sets, didn't like the blends, deleted them. Then picked a new first track and went a few directions, listened, and wasn't feeling it. Changed the first track again. Now we're at mix number five! Every time you choose a different opening track, you change the vibe, so this went on until mix nine. I usually don't change directions so much but the process of making a mix that I love sort of reflects either the stability or chaos in my life at the time. Then I was, "Eureka!!" This is the feeling that I wanted, but what TF happened? Of the 24 tracks that I bought, now there are only 6 on this mix. Geez. It is what it is. Then I had a DJ talent problem, the mixes had parts where I brought in the wrong tracks or I train wrecked mixes. So the last three attempts were trying to refine what I finally LOVED!  Then on the final run, I realised after listening to the completed mix three times, "HORY SHET!!!" (In a thick Chinese accent. I don't have one, just like to use it from time to time). I forgot one of the 6 new vocal house tracks.  No problem. I did two runs on the next mix and have decided to put that beautiful work of art as the bookend, the last track of the next mix that I'm working on. As always, tracks are chosen and mixed with love. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!!                                                   Little Louie Vega is incredible if you’ve seen him live. This guy mixes like the songs were produced together, not like separate tracks. He DJs like a musician- can’t even describe it, you have to experience him. I always wonder what it’s like to know how house music tracks are made from conception to post production, and then spin them? Jim and I just know what house tracks we love, but we know nothing about music, composition, etc. We just like what we like and hope that some people like it too. I’d hate if a musician listened to us. This is one of my favourite of Mr. Vegas’ authorized mixes. Full of energy and beautiful house music. Relentless, track after track. I can’t tell you how many records the duo of Little Louie Vega and his partner Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Masters At Work (M.A.W.) that Jim and I own and own doubles of. There was a time when we were partying, that almost everything good was made by these guys. I bet there are more MAW records in house DJs' collections than any other producers. Roger Sanchez. That name just gets a period. Definitive. I’ve been to probably four parties in Toronto where he was headlining- never a disappointment. I kicked myself the last few times he was in Toronto and I missed him. Smooth as butter and his passion shows through his performance. He loves it! Three decks- seamless- TIGHT (there’s a picture of him in the DJ Dictionary if there is one). No computer w/ beatlock – a DJ’s DJ. I'm so happy that when I catch him on YouTube and stuff he's playing w/ cds. Nothing like old & new tech together. He’s always having a blast w/ the crowd. Not the stone face DJ, seen one of those lately? Don’t love what you do? Go do something else Man! The greats always make it look easy and fun. Then the masses go out and spend tons of money and realize that ‘hey, this is hard’. The title of these two mixes comes from the chorus of an Everything But The Girl cover by Nicola on this mixed cd, “Missing”. I just loved that line, “Like the desert missed the rain”. I almost spelled it ‘dessert’ by accident at first. Chuck Love’s mixed cd was such an exciting gem of a purchase! His tracks have a older, familiar feel, but such a bumpy energy that charges forward. Very organic sounds and instruments, but has such a fresh edge to them. Joy. He is new to us, but will be looking for him. Can’t tell you how much I love his music. Loved the track “Shy” from the Matthew Dear CD. We have a few of his tracks on vinyl. Techy, w/ awesome alternative rock sounding vocals. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!!                                                   Went into an HMV at Bloor & Yonge in Downtown Toronto a while ago for some mixed house cd listening. I needed a house music fix badly. Stayed for hours listening to at least 40 "electronica" cds. They hated me there because the staff have to reseal the ones that you don’t buy. CDs are expensive, you have to love what you spend your hard earned dollars on. Bought these five for about $130 w/ taxes: "In The House: Little Louie Vega" mixed by Little Louie Vega. I lent this double mixed cd to a good friend (another DJ) a few weeks after buying it, and haven’t seen it since. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I hope you feel guilty. It’s fine, we’ll still be friends, just give it back please… "Asa Breed" by Matthew Dear. Great techy tracks. "Release Yourself" mixed by Roger Sanchez. The “S” Man, NUFF SAID! "Bring Enough To Spill Some” mixed by Chuck Love. WOW! This guy’s music is CRAZY! “F*** Me I’m Famous!” mixed David Guetta Not bad, like some tracks. Listened to these for about a week, then marked all the tracks that I loved, the levels, when the vocals started, and made these two mixes. Took a few takes. I never put this much preparation into a mix, because usually just like to have fun and if it sucks, then toss it. Usually one out of 10, I keep. Hey... baseball players are making millions at 3 out of 10. One out of 10 isn't too bad, I guess. Also,because the tracks were from these authorized mixed cds that have been mastered professionally w/ top dollar, these two mixes by default sound amazing. --------------- Reach out to us and comment if you like our mixes.
