Thayer County: Run by Women

Thayer County is home to the first permanent women's suffrage organization in the United States, establishing a place for Nebraskan women to influence their community. That history of strong female advocates and leaders lives on through the female leaders in the county's government, businesses and families. Join us as we talk with Thayer's museum curator, a women's club president, and a Hebron businesswoman about why they love their county and it's history! In this episode, Lauren Behn and Macy Byars travel to Belvidere and Hebron, Nebraska to explore small towns with a big history. Most of Thayer's local government seats are held by women, and even more businesses and organizations are run by them. Their community projects and developments cannot be acknowledged without the women who planned and executed them- all while balancing their ideas and careers with more traditionally feminine roles. While stories about women's history often take place in big cities, Thayer's story is one that proves you can find a strong woman anywhere. Produced by KRNU StudiosWritten, voiced and edited by Macy Byars and Lauren BehnPrimary music - “Critically Ill” FineTune Music Adobe Stock Asset ID: #481059801
