As the Jets defensive coordinator search continues, Connor Hughes of SNY had an interesting tidbit on his Jets Final Drive podcast with Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.  According to Hughes, two “big name” candidates have told the Jets that they have no interest in interviewing to work for the Jets at this time.  Rosenblatt would add that his understanding is that it’s “more than two”. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69540952/download.mp3 But while the search may not be going as well as hoped, the pair claims that well-known coordinator Wink Martindale has emerged as the current favorite to land the job.  Martindale coached in the NFL from 2004-20023, spending seven of those seasons as a defensive coordinator for the Broncos, Ravens, and Giants.  He has spent the past twos seasons in the college ranks for Michigan. As far as the offensive side of the football, particularly at quarterback, the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL is just around the corner, and there will be six QB’s on hand. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU: Viewed as a lock to go in round 1 this year, Nussmeier had a disastrous year that how has him pegged as a mid-round pick.  Some speculate he was playing with an injury in 2025, so this will be a chance for the signal caller to raise his stock once again in a weak quarterback class. Taylen Green, Arkansas: The 6′ 6” Green has elite athletic traits but fell flat for much of 2025.  After starting off hot with ten touchdown passes in his first two games, Green would throw just nine more over the course of the remainder of the season.  Mobile will be a chance for Green to work with a more talented group of receivers but will have to show improved accuracy if he hopes to impress scouts. Sawyer Robertson, Baylor: Robertson is an aggressive downfield thrower who shows elite ball placement deep down the field and likes to find man coverage and air it out when opponents blitz.  He’s also more than willing to hang in the pocket do deliver a deep shot but will offer less than any other QB in mobile as a runner. Love the poise/awareness we see from @BUFootball QB Sawyer Robertson. Looks like a sure sack before he pulls away, finds RB Caden Knighten over the middle and pulls trigger for big gain instead of sack or throw away. Big opportunity to boost his stock at the @seniorbowl. pic.twitter.com/Duovst0cZk — Glenn Naughton (@JetsPicks) January 22, 2026 Diego Pavia, Vanderbilt: An underdog who always seems to find a way to pull out a win or keep Vandy competitive.  There are serious concerns regarding his height as some suggest he’ll check in at 5′ 9” in Indy.  This would be a major blow for a QB who likely irked some teams with his social media meltdown after not winning the Heisman. Luke Altmyer, Illinois: A guy who does a lot of things well but nothing exceptional.  Good arm strength and athleticism for Altmyer who logged 44 TD’s to just 11 INT’s over his final two college seasons.  A ‘steady Eddie” type who could be a day 3 pick and potential long-term backup. Cole Payton, NDSU: If the New Orleans Saints feel it’s time to move on from Taysom Hill, Payton could be the perfect replacement.  His speed and athleticism is beyond impressive and we expect him to run the fastest 40 among QB’s in Indy.  This isn’t to say he can’t wow you with an eye popping throw from time to time, but no matter the plan for Payton, he’s likely a multi-year project.    The post Report: Jets Snubbed by two “big name” Def Coordinators; a Look at Senior Bowl QBs appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
Just when you think the worst ideas in regards to how to fix the Jets QB situation comes from “randos” on x, along comes ESPN and outdoes all of them. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69525921/download.mp3 From the worldwide leader in sports, an nfl executive said the Jets would have available to them, Geno Smith, Tua Tagovaiola or Kyler Murray.  And no, we’re not joking. Directly from ESPN.com: This notion isn’t exactly bold — all three quarterbacks appear to not be in the long-term plans of their current franchises. But they are each former Pro Bowlers and several teams have a glaring need at the position each year. “Do the Jets get one of those three — that’s really the question I have,” an AFC executive said. “They could go young and load up for the 2027 draft of quarterbacks, but the head coach [Aaron Glenn] probably needs to win, so he might need more of a reliable option.” Miami and Arizona are saddled with large guarantees on deals with Tagovailoa and Murray, respectively. Murray would make more sense to New York, given Tagovailoa’s ties to the AFC East, but not everyone is convinced Arizona owner Michael Bidwill would pay a significant portion of Murray’s $37 million in guarantees for him to not play in Arizona. Smith’s contract is more manageable, with $18.5 million already guaranteed for 2026 (another $8 million becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the new league year). The 35-year-old spent his first four seasons with the Jets, throwing 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions before moving on. The Jets will need to make significant plans for a veteran passer regardless. Let’s look at each one realistically. Geno Smith: Say what you will about Woody Johnson, but even this move is beneath him.  The owner is going to try to sell the fan base on a new quarterback as he raises ticket prices yet again.  There is no way he’s going to sign off on bringing in a former malcontent as his production dips to unacceptable levels after enjoying a few good seasons. Tua Tagovailoa: Tua’s extensive and concerning concussion history should make him an automatic “NO” for the Jets.  Especially if the plan is to draft a quarterback who won’t be rushed into action. Kyler Murray: An undesirable option who would be the  “best” of the three.  You can at least say Murray is young(ish), has had some success and beat you with his arm and legs.  There would of course be questions about his work ethic, but the Jets would have to dismiss that and say it has been overblown or he outgrew his laid back approach. The post ESPN Exec has Three Very bad Ideas for Jets to add QB appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
Oregon quarterback Dante Moore has decided to return to college next season and leaves the Jets in a very familiar and equally frustrating position.  They don’t have a QB now, and they’re unlikely to land one who can be the guy later on. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69463175/download.mp3 Many had hoped Moore would declare for the NFL draft and either give the Jets a quarterback of the future, or at the very least, an invaluable trade chip for any team willing to move up and take him with the second overall pick.  Instead, Moore goes back to being a duck, and the Jets go back to QB purgatory. Breaking: Oregon QB Dante Moore announced on @SportsCenter that he’s returning to Oregon next season. Moore was projected as a top draft pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL draft. pic.twitter.com/XNOeX3yAKS — ESPN (@espn) January 14, 2026 No Dante Moore means hoping to strike gold later on in the draft, and searching for their 2026 signal caller by way of a free agent addition, trade or what would likely be a round two or three pick.  That’s not to say other team’s haven’t hit on picks outside of round 1, or that the Jets can’t take one at the back of the round via trade as the Giants did with Jaxson Dart. But for those fans hoping Moore would throw his hat in the ring, they were forced to go from believing Moore would be the guy, to finding a way to cope, suggesting that all of a sudden, he wasn’t worth the second overall pick after all. What the situation does is put the Jets in a spot where they may have to put a few more quarterbacks under the microscope in ways that they wouldn’t have had to if they had a shot at Moore. When the Jets send a contingent to Mobile for the Senior Bowl this year, they may want to take an extended look at LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.  Previously viewed as a round one lock, Nussmeier faltered badly in Baton Rouge before landing on the bench late in the season.  Some suggest there may have been an injury he was dealing with, so Mobile will give him a chance at some level of redemption. Outside of Mobile, there will of course be Cade Klubnik and Drew Allar of Clemson and Penn State respectively.  Two more players who had round one hopes, but who flopped in their final college seasons.  Even if just one of the three can work their way back up draft bords, the Jes may have a decent option in April that they don’t look to have today.    The post Dante Moore Draft Decision Leaves Jets in QB Bind appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
Jets fans can talk all they want about how great it would be for Gang Green to pursue former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, but it will all fall on deaf ears.  Woody Johnson looks to be 100% committed to making things work with Aaron Glenn, while Harbaugh could land in the division with the Dolphins, or a a co-tenant with the Giants. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69346812/download.mp3 Passing on Harbaugh will give Jets fans one more reason to be frustrated with the franchise, so what better time to sit down with Jets fan Joe Nelson.  Joe’s video in which he reads his ad-libbed version of Jets history to his newborn son was a huge hit on line, racking up over a million views. 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚: The father has gone viral for teaching his newborn son how hard life will be as a Jets fan. One of the best videos you will watch all year. pic.twitter.com/JiTHNa1ZNZ — Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) December 16, 2025 In the video, Joe can be heard praising Jets great Darrelle Revis, while lamenting how embarrassing it is to include short-term, low impact players in the small Jets history book he’s sharing with his son.  The video is equal parts heartwarming and heartbreaking for long-time fans who can relate to every word Joe is saying. The post Zero Chance Woody Pursues Harbaugh; Talking to Jets fan Whose Viral Video Racked up Over 1,000,000 Views appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
When you go 3-14 in one of the worst seasons your franchise has ever produced, there’s no shortage of issues that will have angered, frustrated or disappointed a huge number of fans.  Jets fans who just sat though this, and many other terrible seasons can attest. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69346812/download.mp3 So we took the time to sit down and go over a few under-the-radar issues that got under our skin.  Not the play of Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor or Brady Cook.  Not the performance of offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand or the departed Quinnen Williams or Sauce Gardner. The New York Jets saved the worst for last in what will go down as one of the most forgettable seasons in team history.  Gang Green got their doors blown off by the Buffalo Bills backups in a 35-8 loss. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69301958/download.mp3 The Jets had no answer for Mitch Trubisky, Ray Davis and Ty Johnson as they ran roughshod over a Jets defense that became the first in NFL history to go a full season without a single interception.  Pair that with the team being the first since the 1970’s to lose by at least 23 points five times in a row and Aaron Glenn’s club put together one heck of a year. The good news however, is that the Giants won their game earlier in the day, meaning the Jets jump up to second in the NFL draft which means if Oregon’s Dante Moore declares, the Jets can land a quarterback without having to give up a bounty of picks to move up. Glenn put the failed season on himself after the game, saying it’s “on me” in coming up short of any and al goals the team had before the season.  The head coach said he’s looking forward to meeting with owner Woody Johnson, who he has “a lot of confidence” in, along with Darren Mougey, to right the ship. Given their current situation, you could argue that the Titanic, in its current state, is in better shape than the Jets.  They don’t have a quarterback, they don’t know if they have a coach, the running back’s future is up in the air, and only one wide receiver has proven himself to be an impact player.  And let’s not get started on the defense that couldn’t, to quote Bart Scott…stop a nose bleed. It’s going to be a long offseason, Jets fans.    The post Jets Blown out by Buffalo Backups in 35-8 Loss appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
The Jets season might be ending, but JetNation Flight 29 is just getting started. What we know is that it’s not a great time to be a Jets fan. Our latest NY Jets Podcast episode is here, featuring Rami Lavi and Bilal Powell. Will Aaron Glenn be fired? Will he be back? Even if you know he won’t be fired, it can still be talked about. Sure, you owe him 50 million, but it needs to be discussed. Finding an identity. This reminds Bilal Powell of the Patriots last year. Is anyone safe? What is the brand? Rami says until Woody removes his ego and removes himself from the equation, they won’t win. Bilal says Woody does care about the team. What we know is that none of it is working. Bring on the NFL Draft. Those fans hoping to see the new York Jets select Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza in the NFL draft with the first overall pick won’t be thrilled with the way things have played out in recent days.  Even after losing yesterday’s meeting with the Patriots, the Jets are unlikely to have a shot at Mendoza. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69243781/download.mp3 With the Raiders losing their game to the New York Giants, they hop up to pick  number 1 and realistically, need a quarterback just as badly as the Jets do.  Sure, they’ve got Geno Smith, but he’s a quarterback at a point in his career where he should be replaced.  Head coach Pete Carroll’s future with the Raiders is uncertain which could mean a full reboot in Vegas with a new head coach and QB.  And what better time to do it than when you have the top pick in the draft? Some have suggested the Jets “trade up no matter what the cost”, but that assumes the QB needy Raiders are dying to swap places with the QB needy Jets and move forward without a signal caller of their own. While it is possible the Oregon QB Dante Moore could declare, the Jets will have to ask themselves if they’d be willing to hand the franchise over to yet another inexperienced college quarterback.  Given how things worked out with Mark Sanchez, Sam Darnold’s first few seasons and Zach Wilson, that could mean extending their playoff drought a few years closer to the two-decade mark. It’s never easy with the Jets, and things just got a lot harder.    The post Moving up for top Pick Just got Tougher for Mougey, Jets appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
With just two games left on the schedule and the first overall pick in the draft at stake, the Jets have made some key roster moves along with both the Raiders and Giants that could help each time come out on top (or bottom, depending on how you look at it) in the race for the NFL’s top pick. For the Jets, shutting down Garrett Wilson for the season and going with Brady Cook at quarterback while placing Will McDonald on IR, they all but guarantee they’ll close the season with a pair of losses to the Patriots and Bills. Meanwhile, the Raiders placed tight end Brock Bowers on injured reserve before superstar defensive end Maxx Crosby walked out on the team just a day after meeting with the press and telling them he didn’t care about draft position and only wanted to win games.  For their part, the Giants are likely to sit starting center John Michael-Schmitz along with IR’d offensive tackle Andrew Thomas and safety Tyler Nubin. With multiple players landing on IR, the Jets have elevated wide receiver Quentin Skinner, quarterback Hendon Hookier, offensive lineman Marquis Hayes and defensive back Tre Brown. We’ve signed WR Quentin Skinner, OL Marquis Hayes and DB Tre Brown to the active roster. We also elevated QB Hendon Hooker for #NEvsNYJ : https://t.co/V5Sg172znH pic.twitter.com/7mGK9HRkMG — New York Jets (@nyjets) December 27, 2025   Skinner, an undrafted free agent out of Kansas, might have the best chance to get on the field and make a play or two if he finds his way on the field.  The 6′ 5” wide receiver made a name for himself in college as a long, physical deep threat who averaged just under twenty yards per reception (19.8) for his career.  The post Tanks a Lot; Jets Battle for top Pick, QB and WR Added to 53 appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
For those Jets fans rooting for draft position above all, today was a good day.  Anyone hoping to see improvement from rookie quarterback Brady Cook in his second pro start however, will be less enthusiastic. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69160346/download.mp3 Following a relief appearance and a start last week in which Cook showed some signs of life in  his first NFL action, the undrafted free agent out of Missouri struggled mightily in his second effort. Now, in fairness to Cook, we saw the return of dumb Jets penalties as Gang Green committed one infraction after another, repeatedly costing the offense first downs or at least moved them from short yardage situations to much longer distances needed to convert. The Jets committed 7 penalties for 54 yards with five of them counting for 44 yards on offense.  John Simpson was flagged for the 10th and 11th times this season with his first flag wiping out a third-down conversion on a 3rd & 1 Brady Cook sneak.  But this doesn’t mean Cook was without blame. Several times we saw a hesitant Cook hold on to the football for too long and take a sack.  There were also several plays in which Cook tried to get away from pressure and ran himself right into a defender. On the day, New Orleans got to the rookie eight times, bringing his total to seventeen sacks in just three games. Asked after the game if he thought about going to veteran Tyrod Taylor in the second half, head coach Aaron Glenn said that he did not, as the Jets continue trying to evaluate the signal caller ahead of  next season. Things weren’t much better on defense where the Jets surrendered 29 points to a Saints team that had no running game to account for.  Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough dropped back to pass fifty times and got off 49 attempts for 308 yards.  For the second week in a row, the folks at PFF had linebacker Quincy Williams down for allowing three touchdowns, bringing his total on the year to eight. There were some bright spots in that Jamien Sherwood played what may have been his best game of the year under new coordinator Chris Harris, while Jowon Briggs, Malachi Moore, Dean Clark, Jordan Clark and Will McDonald flashed at times.  In fact, Ross Tucker who was calling the game for CBS, was effusive in his praise for Sherwood early on, and then for McDonald as he dialed it up a few notches in the second half. The post Jets at Fourth Spot in Draft Following Nola Drubbing appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
For the second week in a row, the New York Jets defense no-showed and asked rookie quarterback Brady Cook to overcome an insurmountable lead. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69047377/download.mp3 Last week it was a quick 21-0 deficit against the Dolphins, and this week it was Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars who jumped out to leads of 14-0 and 31-10 just before the half.  The Jags were off and running from the first snap of the game and never looked back.  Lawrence led the Jags on back-to-back scoring drives with a touchdown strike to Brian Thomas Jr. on the first drive and a 15-yard scramble for a score on their second drive. The Jets would counter with a Brady Cook TD pass, the first of his career, to AD Mitchell to make it 14-7.  That was as close as the Jets would get before Jacksonville ran away with it. Rookie running back Bhaysul Tuten pulled in a 16-yard TD reception to make it 21-7 before the team traded field goals to push the score to 24-10 before Jacksonville managed two more TD passes on a day in which Trevor Lawrence had five scoring strikes. On offense, the Jets just couldn’t keep up.  In his first pro start, quarterback Brady Cook completed 66% of his passes, going 22 for 33 for for 176 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. The loss drops the Jets to 3-11 and moves them from 7th to 5th in their draft position for the 2026 class. The post Jets Mauled by Jags 48-20 as Defense No-Shows Again appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
Brady Cook will be making his first NFL start this Sunday when the Jets take on the Jacksonville Jaguars as head coach Aaron Glenn is ruling out both Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/69018082/download.mp3 Now, official: Brady Cook will start at QB on Sunday, per Aaron Glenn. Tyrod Taylor and Justin Fields are out. #Jets — Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) December 12, 2025 Cook made his debut in relief of Taylor last week and had little support from a group of receivers that dropped one pass after another.  Cook would finish they day 14 of 30 with no touchdowns and two interceptions, but the seven drops by his pass catchers, including a would-be touchdown to John Metchie, skew the reality of his performance quite a bit.  While Cook did throw a pair of red zone interceptions, it’s going to be interesting to see if he takes as different approach when not handed a huge deficit to come back from. Every single throw from Brady Cook's @nyjets debut. Did the drops hit double-digits?@JetNation https://t.co/XmJ8jQqDJ0 — Glenn Naughton (@JNRadio_Glenn) December 8, 2025 So now for Cook, rather than entering a game already down 21-0 as he did last week, it’ll be a scoreless start and hopefully a game in which he gets a little bit of support to see what he can do. An undrafted free agent out of Missouri, Cook managed to stick with the Jets practice squad after a solid pre-season and now finds himself about to line up as a starter.  A mobile quarterback with more than adequate arm strength and off-the-charts leadership in college, the Jets will use this week to begin their evaluation of Cook in determining whether or not he has a future with the club. The post Report: Rookie QB Brady Cook to Start Sunday vs Jaguars appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
JetNation Flight 29 is back, our weekly New York Jets podcast hosted by Rami Lavi and former Jets running back Bilal Powell. Each week, we offer Jets fans a veteran’s perspective on game results, coaching decisions, and developing storylines. This week’s episode mixed nostalgia and honest evaluation as Powell reacted to Leon Washington showing up in number 29 at the game on Sunday and people thinking it was Bilal. They also discuss Fernando Mendoza draft buzz after a standout throw, and dove into the frustrations of facing AFC East opponents for the second time. Powell also opened up about quarterback traits, coaching concerns, and lessons he learned in his own career, all while answering questions submitted by members of the JetNation Forums. Fernando Mendoza Buzz and AFC East Frustrations The Jets win may have placed them in range for Fernando Mendoza, and Rami highlights the third down throw that he believes put the quarterback firmly into the draft conversation. Powell also discussed how the Dolphins’ latest win may have helped Mike McDaniel keep his job. That led to a wider point, Bilal Powell cannot understand why the Jets consistently struggle more in the second matchup with divisional opponents. He agreed with Bart Scott’s criticism of Steve Wilkes and questioned whether Aaron Glenn truly believed Wilkes was the right choice at defensive coordinator. Powell wondered why Glenn hasn’t considered retaking play-calling duties, warning that things “will only get uglier from here.” Attacking Tua and Learning From Other Rebuilds Tua Tagovailoa being a left-handed quarterback was one of Powell’s biggest points of emphasis. He believes the Jets should attack him from the left side and finds it frustrating that the defensive approach hasn’t consistently reflected that. Listener Liam Johnson also brought up how quickly the Jaguars and Bears have turned things around, and Powell agreed the Jets must stop relying on excuses while other franchises show faster and more effective rebuilds. BP on Quarterbacks and JetNation Forum Questions Powell spent time discussing quarterback development, including Brady Cook, the wide range of places successful quarterbacks are drafted from, and even jokingly comparing Fernando Mendoza’s personality to a “goofy” Ryan Fitzpatrick. He shared how Anthony Lynn taught him to read defenses pre-snap, shaping the way he saw the game. The episode closed with JetNation Forum questions: Mr. Rogers asked whether the Jets should address wide receiver help through the draft or free agency, and Powell stressed the need to bring real support for Garrett Wilson. Slick TP asked what offense Powell would run if he were a coordinator, and Powell described a motion-heavy system built around quick reads and horizontal stress for young quarterbacks. The post JetNation Flight 29 – Fernando Mendoza Buzz, Coaching Concerns & Bilal Powell Answers Fan Questions appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
NY Jets Podcast, JetNation Flight 29, Rami Lavi, Bilal Powell The New York Jets did exactly what you are supposed to do in this league, take care of business at home against a bad team. It was not flashy, it was not dramatic, it was simply a professional, business like win. Winning the games you should win is part of becoming a real NFL team again. We are back with another episode of JetNation Flight 29, our NY Jets Podcast. There has been a lot of noise about rooting for losses, draft position, blowing it up, and chasing picks. Winning matters, culture matters. You are not turning over one hundred percent of the roster, so these reps and these moments matter for the young core. Let them play, let them compete, and see who can grow into real roles going forward. That includes Brady Cook, you might as well see what you have in the kid. It also includes Justin Fields. Does he have a place here next year, could there be a package for him, trick plays, read option looks, designed runs, anything that gives you a spark. Would he even be open to that kind of role, these are the evaluations you make while still trying to win football games. Identity is the real priority for this team right now. Players like John Metchie are starting to show something. Young defenders are flashing. Pieces are forming, and the organization has to decide who fits the long term plan. The NFL Draft is part of that conversation, but the biggest names are not always the answer. The Jets quarterback of the future might be in this class, but the path to finding him starts with building a real foundation now. In this episode of JetNation Flight 29, Rami Lavi and Bilal Powell break down where the Jets stand, what the young players are showing, and how this team should approach the final stretch of the season while still expecting to win. Plenty of Jets fans won’t like it, but Nick Folk and his teammates were loving it.  The veteran kicker drilled a game winning 56-yard field goal as time expired to give the Jets a 27-24 victory over the Falcons. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/68811335/download.mp3 And it's a 27-24 @nyjets win after Nick Folk drills the field goal as time expires. pic.twitter.com/EiHBUAJknI — Glenn Naughton (@JNRadio_Glenn) November 30, 2025 The win moves the Jets to 3-9 on the year and to the chagrin of many fans, drops them to sixth in the NFL draft standings.  So those hoping for Fernando Mendoza to land at 1 Jets Drive can put that off and start looking elsewhere. Things started off slow for both offenses as Gang Green and the Falcons punted eight times in their first ten possessions with each team scoring just one touchdown.  The Jets had an easy go of it on their first score as a fumble recovery on the 2-yard line led to a Breece Hall finding the end zone untouched to put the Jets up 7-0. Atlanta answered back with a score of their own on a 10-play 62 yard drive that was capped with a TD run from Bijan Robinson which led to a 7-7 tie at the half.  But there were plenty of fireworks to come.  Following a 95-yard touchdown drive that put the Falcons up 14-7, Tyrod Taylor hit wide receiver AD Mitchell on a 52-yard touchdown pass; the longest play from scrimmage for the Jets on the season.  Mitchell would finish the game with a career-high 102 yards on eight receptions. Both teams would trade a pair of missed field goals after their touchdowns as Nick Folk was wide right from 55 yards, giving him his first miss of the season.  Some sloppy tackling on Atlanta’s ensuing drive put the Falcons up by a touchdown on a David Sills catch and run but the Jets would answer back. Tyrod Taylor’s 10-yard TD run capped a 65 yard scoring drive and made it 24-24 before the Jets got a stop on defense, and Nick Folk nailed the game-winner as time expired.        The post Folk the Draft; Last-Second win Drops Jets to Sixth Pick appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
JetNation Flight 29 Recap with Rami Lavi and Bilal Powell – NY Jets Podcast Happy Tanks Giving from the JetNation crew. Rami Lavi and Bilal Powell are back in the studio, breaking down the state of the team and what matters most as the season winds down in this week’s NY Jets Podcast. Bilal goes straight to the heart of it. At some point, you have to let the younger guys play. He thinks several backups deserve the chance to finish out the year and show what they can do. He is not worried about draft positioning. It is about finishing games with pride and setting the tone for the future. Rami is a fan of the tank, lose for the draft pick. Bilal thinks finishing hard, building respect is more important and mentions how the Giants found their QB last year and it wasn’t until late in the first round. The guys dive into the quarterback situation too. Should Brady Cook get snaps? Tyrod Taylor played better last week and Justin Fields continues to absorb the criticism for an offense that has not found its rhythm. But the theme is the same. It is time to focus on development and evaluate the young players on the roster. They also hit on the issues that have dragged the defense down. A lack of turnovers, no consistent pressure on the quarterback, and too much man coverage behind a pass rush that has not been getting home. Rami raises a big question about Aaron Glenn and says he does not have faith in him as the long-term answer. Bilal pushes back and points out how many coaches have been in and out of the building in recent years. At some point, you have to pick a direction and trust a coach who believes in developing young players. It is another honest and unfiltered Flight 29 breakdown. Check out the full episode for the complete conversation. The post JetNation Flight 29 TanksGiving Edition – NY Jets Podcast appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
With the Jets in the midst of the longest playoff drought in all major North American sports (15 years), fans don’t want to hear about how things are “getting better”.  But we’re going to say it here and now; things at 1 Jets drive, are in fact getting better.  Yes, they did drop to 2-9 with yesterday’s loss to the Ravens, but there are some positive takeaways. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/68729035/download.mp3 The Discipline is back: When was the last time you could say the Jets weren’t having a hard time getting out of their own way in terms of penalties?   Under Robert Saleh, a flag earned you an “attaboy” and smack on the helmet.  With Aaron Glenn in town, it’s been the exact opposite.  He hasn’t hesitated to get in a guy’s face to let him know he made a mistake, and the results are staring to show.  After committing 42 penalties through their first five games, the Jets have seen that number drop to just 31 in the six games that followed. The sloppy defense is a thing of the past: The defense has been far from perfect, but after a disastrous start to the season, it’s another key area where things have been cleaned up.  After missing 10 or more tackles in three of their first four games this season, they’ve had that happen just one other time since when they missed a season-high 17 tackles vs Cincinnati.  Aside from that one game, the Jets have missed more than 8 tackles just once since week four. The Draft Class is Coming Along Nicely: First-round offensive tackle Armand Membou’s high level play has been apparent from the moment he stepped on the field.  But Mason Taylor, Azareye’h Thomas, Malachi Moore and Mason Taylor have all impressed in starting roles.  It’s been an up and down year for LB Francisco Mauigoa and we need to see more from WR Arian Smith and DL Tyler Baron, but for the most part this class is looking very impressive. While NFL weekly predictions is a great place to go for all of  your gambling needs, we’re not saying you should be betting the Jets will run the table, but progress has been evident, and Darren Mougey deserves plenty of love for our next point. The Projects and Experiments are yielding very good results: The Jets rookie GM made an under-the-radar move as the season approached and flipped day 3 picks with the Browns to acquire little-known defensive tackle Jowon Briggs who started the year strong and has gradually improved as the year has moved on.  It’s fair to say he has gone from buried on the Browns depth chart to solidifying himself as a likely long-term piece on defense for the Jets. Then of course there are wide receivers John Methie and AD Mitchell.  Metchie came over from Philadelphia in a deal for slot corner Michael Carter while Mougey reportedly insisted on Mitchell being included in the deal that sent Sauce Gardner to the Colts.  In just two games, both players have flashed the ability that had them coming out of college as big time prospects.  Metchine has scored touchdowns in each of his two games while Mitchell had three drops in his first game, but has already shown that he can consistently create separation and threaten defenses deep down the field. Even better for the Jets is that while there’s little to play for in terms of the standings, Aaron Glenn still has them playing hard which bodes well for further evaluation as the back half of the season comes to a close. The post Record Says Otherwise, but Jets Moving in Right Direction appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
The Justin Fields era is officially over at 1 Jets Drive as Gang Green is set to start veteran Tyrod Taylor in place of the struggling former first-rounder. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/68606243/download.mp3 After a season that has featured mostly horrendous quarterback play, Aaron Glenn is pulling the plug on Fields and hoping Taylor can give the offense a boost. It’s a critical move for the Jets who will play out the string and try to evaluate some of their young players.  Something that just would not be possible with Fields under center.  While there are some holes in Taylor’s game, he’s a more experienced veteran who won’t be quite as gun shy as Fields has been this season. With the arrival of AD Mitchell and (assuming) an eventual return for Garrett Wilson, having Taylor leading the offense should give Jets coaches and talent evaluators an opportunity to figure out exactly what they’ll have to work with next season.  Along with Wilson and Mitchell at wide receiver, expect John Metchie to see plenty of reps with lesser-known practice squad receivers hoping to get the call at some point.  The post Jets to Bench Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor is new Starter appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
What started off as a promising night against the division rival New England Patriots ended up a predictably lopsided score.  After capping the game opening drive with a Justin Fields TD run on what was the fourteenth play of the drive, it was all downhill for Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets. https://api.spreaker.com/v2/episodes/68574460/download.mp3 What an incredible drive from the @nyjets to open up the scoring on this Justin Fields TD run. 14 plays (11 rush/3 pass)72 yardsTime of Possession: 8:04 pic.twitter.com/sSZOS9XCGl — Glenn Naughton (@JNRadio_Glenn) November 14, 2025 Gang Green came out with a heavy emphasis on the run as Breece Hall, Isaiah Davis and Justin Fields ran it 11 times on 14 plays before Fields ran it in from five yards out to put the Jets up 7-0, but that would be as good as it got for Gang Green. Drake Maye would open the game by completing his first 11 pass attempts as he led New England on consecutive TD drives to go up 14-7 at the half.  Even as Maye torched the Jets secondary, both of New England’s scores came on the ground from Treyveon Henderson from seven yards out. The Patriots would then kick off the scoring in the second half as Henderson found the end zone through the air.  Fields and the Jets would find the end zone one more time when the offense took advantage of a fallen Patriots DB which left John Metchie wide open for a 22-yard touchdown catch. That would be the last touchdown of the game for either club and the Patriots added a pair of field goals to close out a 27-14 victory. Now head coach Aaron Glenn has to take another look at his starting quarterback, who topped 100 yards passing for just the second time in five games, and decide how to proceed.    The post Jets Come up Short in 27-14 Loss to Patriots appeared first on JetNation.com - New York Jets Blog & Forum.
Rami Lavi and Bilal Powell are back with a new episode of JetNation Flight 29. The Jets have won two games in a row. Somehow there always seems to be something negative in the air. Aaron Glenn got into it with the media over the Garrett Wilson injury update from Rich Cimini. Bilal talks about why Aaron Glenn is upset about this and why he is right. Grit is another topic and this team is starting to buy in. Breece Hall is standing tall, and drowning out the outside noise. Much credit goes to Breece for his success and carrying this offense. The NFL draft is on everyones mind, the team now has the 5th pick. Bilal talks about how important winning is. Building momentum is more important than draft order.
