What a week that was! Since the last Yellow Army Podcast Torquay United have been beaten 5-0 at home by Chelmsford and have lost a manager. So a lot to discuss then for Richard Hughes, Guy Henderson, David Thomas and Clive Hayward. With Paul Wotton losing his job on Sunday, the quartet reflect on a tumultuous couple of days that saw Neil Warnock come in to take charge of the team for the game against Farnborough on Tuesday. That ended 2-2 but there wasn't much of an improvement in the players' performance - and we hear what the interim manager had to say about that, and the forthcoming game against Ebbsfleet United on Saturday. Once again, the podders are in the old boardroom and the fridges are loud - but that just adds to the buzz that is already about Plainmoor these days. It's never dull at good old Torquay United, that's for sure... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Torquay United manager Paul Wotton said it in his press conference - "It's not all sunshine and rainbows" right now, after the Gulls have picked up just one point from four games. The 3-1 defeat at Worthing was the latest kick in the teeth. But with eight of the remaining 13 games left, Torquay can still do better this season and the promotion race is not over yet. Dorking Wanderers may lead the way by nine points, but - with Chelmsford City visiting this Saturday - the Gulls are certainly not out of it yet. Richard Hughes returns to join Guy Henderson and David Thomas in the old boardroom where the fridge was as loud as the wind against the window. We hear from the manager in his press conference tell us about the injury crisis that the squad finds itself in again - and the podcasters talk through his options. Then there is Coachgate. The biggest story of the week is explained and mulled over. There's plenty of leg room at this podcast table, so get seated and we'll begin... Learn more about your ad choices. Torquay United and their long-suffering fans face nearly 900 miles on the road in the coming days. A trip to bottom club Eastbourne Borough on Saturday is swiftly followed by a journey to fellow promotion contenders Worthing on Tuesday night. Players, management, fans and podcasters will have plenty of time on the road to mull over the events on and off the pitch at Plainmoor. This week’s Yellow Army podcast casts an eye back over the 1-1 draw at home to Maidenhead, that penalty decision and what looked like a nasty injury to leading scorer Jordan Young. Paul Wotton, meanwhile, says one of his players may struggle to make the squad on Saturday, but we don’t know which one it will be. Elsewhere on your podcast this week, if you can stay awake until the end, there’s a new job for a familiar Plainmoor face, and an extraordinary night in Wiltshire for one of our other local clubs. Loan players dominate the agenda on the Yellow Army Podcast this week as we run the rule over Tuesday night’s ‘bump in the road’ and look ahead to a big day at Plainmoor on Saturday. Torquay United’s seven-match unbeaten run came to an end with a 1-0 defeat at Chippenham Town - a late goal handing the hosts all three points from a game which Torquay dominated. Maidenhead United are the visitors to Plainmoor on Saturday for what will be the first home match since January 17 if the rain holds off. Manager Paul Wotton mulls over Tuesday’s disappointment, and explains how a change in personnel brought better football after the break, but could not supply the goals the Gulls needed to win the game. There’s good news today as Exeter City loanee Kieran Wilson confirms that he will be staying until the end of the season, and we hear how young centre back Ed James - also on loan from the Grecians - can look forward to some game time. Joe Hatch - on loan from Plymouth Argyle - is doing his best to shake off a calf injury and there is news of three Gulls players who are active in the loan market themselves. Sonny Fish is due back from Folkestone after the weekend, but two more Torquay players could be heading out for some minutes on the pitch elsewhere. It’s all in the latest edition of the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast. It never rains, but it pours! For the first quarter of the season, Torquay United couldn’t buy an away win. Now it seems they can’t stop picking up the big points on the road. Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Dover made it nine points from three away games on the trot, hoisting the Gulls to the top of National League South, with second-placed Dorking Wanderers due to visit Plainmoor on Saturday. Excitement will be at fever pitch, if it ever stops raining. This week’s Yellow Army Podcast finds Gulls boss Paul Wotton in buoyant mood, albeit a little sleep-deprived after all those hours on the road. He fills us in on how United have managed to turn that away form around in such dramatic style, and looks forward to Saturday’s huge game. There is, however, some bad news on the injury front, with a key defender likely to be out for a while. There are team changes among the podcasters, too, but there is much to discuss - not least exactly how many times United have come back to win or draw already this season after going behind. After the wash-out that was Tuesday night's postponed home game against Farnborough, Torquay United have a massive trip to National League South leaders Hornchurch on Saturday. It will be a huge game for both clubs and one that could see the Gulls go top if they beat the team they lost 2-1 at home to in November. The Yellow Army podcasters are Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and Clive Hayward this week and they discuss this game, and wonder what team Paul Wotton might pick - given the form of young striker Kieran Wilson, who scored that crucial winner at Enfield Town on Saturday, and the return of Jordan Young from suspension. They also remember a pioneering Gulls fan, Mervo, who set up the first Torquay United presence online back in the 1990s, and we talk about a plastic pint pot that ended up flying through the air at Enfield. As usual, there is so much more too. So click and play the original TUFC podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
After that tough game against Maidstone United on Saturday, in which there were three red cards, two of them shown to Torquay United players, the Yellow Army Podcast gets to grips with exactly what happened. Guy Henderson, Richard Hughs and David Thomas talk about that game and the two forthcoming matches at Enfield Town on Saturday and at home against Farnborough next Tuesday. We hear from manager Paul Wotton at his latest press conference and we talk about Big Nev, remembering a glorious couple of years for the legendary goalkeeper at Plainmoor. Then there is Richard's article this week about a certain Maidstone player who took the Michael, a bit; and David's about the departing kit man. All this and more on this week's Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Hello Torquay United fans and welcome to our latest Yellow Army Podcast. Guy Henderson is away with a head cold so it's Richard Hughes back in the hot seat with David Thomas and Clive Hayward doing the heavy lifting. This week there is the excellent 4-1 win against Hampton & Richmond Borough to discuss, and Saturday's big game against Maidstone United - don't we play them every two weeks? We hear from manager Paul Wotton about those two games, and Callum Dolan's knee injury that will keep him out until the end of the season. Would you change the team about a bit then, for this one? Listen to what Dave and Clive think. Come On You Yellows. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Hello from rainy Torquay United where we recorded our latest edition of the Yellow Army Podcast today. There was much to discuss for Richard Hughes, David Thomas and Clive Hayward, with that disappointing 0-0 draw at Bath City followed by the wasted trip to Dover Athletic. And we hear from the manager Paul Wotton at his Thursday press conference, who says the Gulls are "one thousand, million, trillion per cent" still in the race for promotion. The squad is almost back to full fitness too with Matt Worthington available for Saturday's home game against Hampton & Richmond Borough, and Munashe Sundire back in training... Will Wotton make changes then? There is also new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior to talk about, and Bobby Baxter, the former Torquay player who died last week. Come On You Yellows! Happy New Year Gulls fans - and let's hope this is a year that brings goals, goals, goals, and that promotion we are all so desperate for. Torquay United start 2026 with a long trip to Dover Athletic - and following that frustrating 0-0 draw at Bath City on Saturday, a win in Kent would really go down well. Manager Paul Wotton said his team was 'tentative' at Bath where they had chances but couldn't find a way through. But with players like Louis Dennis in great form - and Matt Jay doing his bit - and with others coming back from injury, could the start of 2026 be one to remember. Put the foot down, no need for brakes - it's time to be ruthless in front of goal and tight at the back. Pass the ball forward and play teams off the park. We hear from the manager, recorded after the Bath game, and from a familiar voice recorded at Taunton Town - his new club. It's Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes today, with the club not having its usual Thursday press conference, or one on Friday. So normal service will return next week. Come On You Yellows! Merry Christmas listeners - it's the final Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast before the big day and with a big game at AFC Totton on Saturday there is a lot to discuss. Torquay were on a good run of five wins but lost against Tonbridge Angels last time out, so they will want to put things right in Hampshire on Saturday. Will there be changes? Will Callum Dolan be back in the team or on the bench. Will Cody Cooke be back? Then it's back to Plainmoor for the Boxing Day home game against Weston-super-Mare. Get there early, it's going to be a busy one! We have Michael Westcott and Mark Bowes-Cavanagh talking about the recent redundancies , and Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas chat about the club's future. And then it's quiz time! The annual Yellow Army Podcast puts Richard against David as Guy resumes his role as quizmaster. Have a go at the questions yourself. Once again, have a great Christmas from all of us.  Come On You Yellows! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
It's break time and time to look back at that frustrating game against Tonbridge Angels, which ended the five-game winning streak we were all so proud of. Guy Hendeson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas team up in the Paignton Dining Room studio to talk through that game - and look forward to the trip to AFC Totton on December 20. Before that, Torquay have a break, so it will be a long wait for fans to see the Gulls bounce back - and then it's the big Boxing Day home showdown with Weston-super-Mare. There is also a lot of off-the-field activities to discuss too - with the club restructuring and some folk losing their roles. Join us for the penultimate Pod before Christmas. Torquay United will be going for six National League South wins in a row on Saturday when they entertain Tonbridge Angels at what is expected to be a wet Plainmoor. But it will also be Christmas Jumper Day, and fans will be able to buy a beer to drink while watching the game - so that's not too bad, is it? It's the four-man team of Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes, David Thomas and Clive Hayward this week and there is much to discuss - including that marvellous debut by Exeter City loanee Kieran Wilson, and the free kick by Jordan Young. We hear from Paul Wotton about Chelmsford, where we are with the injury situation, and Saturday's possible 'banana skin' - as Dave T calls it. Once again, Wotton won't be taking anything for granted against a Tonbridge team who are 17th in the table. But fans will be hopeful of another win after last weekend's cracking 2-0 win at Chelmsford took Torquay to the top. A midweek win for Hornchurch means the Gulls are now second. And there is so much more for you on this week's Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast. Come On You Yellows. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Since our last Yellow Army Podcast, Torquay United have scored 10 goals - seven of them against Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, and another three in the brilliant comeback win against Worthing on Tuesday night. Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are joined by Dave Thomas and Clive Hayward and this is the A Team that talk through those two games, and Saturday's long trip to Chelmsford City. Further talk is about the injury crisis, with Torquay only having 16 players available for the last two games - and the usual bits and pieces. It might be getting cold but the season is definitely heating up. Come On You Yellows! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
It's a shorter, down the line podcast today as Torquay United have delayed their usual Thursday afternoon press conference until Friday. So Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes chat over the internet and discuss the latest injury setbacks which may have hit the club ahead of three big games in eight days. Five players were out last weekend when Torquay were knocked out of the FA Trophy by Maidstone United. Gulls fans are hoping that at least Louis Dennis and Callum Dolan will be back for Saturday's National League South home game against Eastbourne Borough - but that's not a certainty right now. And Paul Wotton told Richard this week he ideally would like to bring in two players - whether he can get them before Eastbourne, or Tuesday night's visit of Worthing, is another matter. Fingers crossed then for the weekend! Come On You Yellows! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Torquay United are in a good place after two good away wins following a disappointing result, but good showing, against Hornchurch in their last away game. They didn't play in midweek so dropped back down to fourth in the National League South - but confidence is high after they beat Farnborough and Maidenhead United on the road. Now we have Maidstone United in the FA Trophy at Plainmoor - and the Podcasters ask if this is a chance to change the team, or keep up the momentum? Richard Hughes returns and Guy Henderson is away for this one - so David Thomas and Clive Hayward talk through the latest developments, and we hear from manager Paul Wotton in his weekly podcast. Hello, hello - it's a five-handed podcast this week with Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes joined by Clive Hayward, David Hammond, and eventually, David Thomas. There's lots to talk about with two games since the last podcast - the 1-0 defeat at Chesham United, and the 3-0 win against Chippenham Town. Two very contrasting games and results. Torquay are third in the National League South right now so there is lots to celebrate. And with a big game at Dorking Wanderers this weekend to look forward to, what's not to like? Press play and see what it's all about... Come On You Yellows! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
The news that Cody Cooke could be out for six weeks with a groin/pelvic problems is not great - but Sonny Fish is close to being available, so there is bad and good news this week in the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast. Clove Hayward going Guy Henderson, Richard Hughes and David Thomas for this latest edition of the original TUFC podcast - and there is much to discuss after Saturday's 0-0 draw against Dagenham & Redbridge. The potters talk about the job Sam Dreyer and Jordan Dyer did on Andy Carroll, and we hear from Torquay manager Paul Wotton about that as well. Wotton looks forward to Saturday's game against Chesham United, and the crew talk about that game and the next one, at home to Chippenham Town next Tuesday. There is also a discussion about safety issues at grounds. Come On You Yellows! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Torquay United's players have been posting on their socials about 'cleanos' - sometimes it is easy to feel old in this world of ours. But spring chickens Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes are joined by the font of all TUFC knowledge on this week's edition of the longest running Gulls podcast. We hear about Torquay's win and that cleano at Salisbury, the coming weekend's exciting visit of Dagenham & Redbridge and their former England striker Andy Carroll, and we hear from manager Paul Wotton, who gives us his thoughts on both games. There have been some changes behind the scenes with a mini shake up after the exit of chief executive officer Mark Thomas - and that's where the podders kick off. Here's hoping then for another cleano on Saturday, as the third-placed Gulls welcome Dagenham to a Plainmoor that should be rocking. Come on you Yellow! Learn more about your ad choices.
