Pieces of Art

I was asked to give some highlights from a recent lecture on raising creative children– so here it is. Now I will return to the middle of grading purgatory from whence I came...

A little shorter than usual this week– school and teaching take priority. In this episode: Mayans, Egyptians, and why people destroy art. Also, my favorite song by my favorite musician, because I can.

In this episode... a rant about beauty culture disguised as a discussion of art. References to Michelangelo, Mary Cassatt, anime, the Platonic Ideal, Neo-Platonism, and a reminder that you're marvelous whoever you are. (It's a little rough but I'm a little tired.)

Why is it so easy for a young Obi-wan Kenobi to be mistaken for Jesus Christ? In this episode, a brief and slightly snarky (I'm tired today) overview of the history of Christ in portraits. It should be a really long lecture with lots of slides, but this is the short- short version. -M
