Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:1-5)https://watfordchurchofchrist.org/Send questions and comments here ➡️ malcolm@malcolmcox.org Subscribe to my Podcast: https://audioboom.com/channels/4909728.rss Get a copy of my free eBook on spiritual disciplines, “How God grows His people”, sign up at my website: http://www.malcolmcox.org. Connect with me!Instagram: (https://instagram.com/malcolmcoxteachingtips)Facebook: (https://www.facebook.com/malcolmccox/)Website: (https://www.malcolmcox.org) God bless, Malcolm

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” Vicki Corona Last week we talked about humility — looking at Moses in Numbers 12, “the most humble man on earth.”  We saw that humility isn’t about thinking less of yourself, but seeing God as great, and trusting him instead of taking control.   In the weeks to come we will explore timelessness, playfulness and having a not-knowing stance. Today, we focus on a readiness toward awe and wonder.
“Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.” Numbers 12.3 But that statement doesn’t come during his triumphs. It comes during one of the most painful moments of his life — when those closest to him turned against him. Today, we’ll step into Numbers chapter 12 and see what humility really looks like in the fire of misunderstanding. This is the second of two classes on the basics of leadership. The Watford church is refreshing its leadership team and using these classes to frame what we are doing with a scriptural foundation.
God's strategy often looks wrong, feels wrong and, yet, turns out to be the best possible way through life.  1. The Prison is the Pulpit, Philippians 1.12-14 2. God uses bad motives - Philippians 1.15-18 3. Loving one another from the heart naturally leads us to pray for one another with joy—and that kind of prayer produces the fruit of spiritual maturity. In this sermon from Philippians 1:1–11, we explore how Paul’s joyful prayers for the Philippians flowed from their shared life in the gospel and how his purpose-driven prayers called them to deeper love, knowledge, and discernment. Along the way, we’ll see that prayer is not just words—it’s the root that grows kingdom fruit in each other’s lives. With personal reflections and practical application, this message calls us to: * Pray for one another with joy, even in hard times. * Let love overflow in real, everyday ways. * Seek maturity that comes through Jesus, for God’s glory. If you want a simple way to bless others and grow in Christ yourself, start here: love is a prayer. 1 Corinthians 3.6–9 “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. The one who plants and the one who waters have a common purpose, and each will receive wages according to the labour of each. For we are God’s servants, working together; you are God’s field, God’s building." We explore how this passage connects: - Personal growth → God grows the individual Christian. - Congregational growth → the church is “God’s field” and “God’s building.” - Kingdom growth → God’s power multiplies faithful planting and watering into something far greater. God bless, Malcolm

Matthew 18.1-9 “At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. “If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were fastened around your neck and you were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! Occasions for stumbling are bound to come, but woe to the one by whom the stumbling block comes! “If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into the hell of fire.” What does it mean to fight selfish ego and welcome the 'little one? I have been reading and studying about the concept of Sabbath, and, more broadly, rest. It seems there is a paradox in the Christian life. How to embrace both the peace of Christ and his suffering. Reflecting on a video by John Ortberg I watched recently, a simple but piercing truth struck me: hurry is a symptom. It’s also a habit—but more than that, it’s a signal. The deeper question is, what is hurry trying to achieve? And what is it trying to cover? Today, I simply want to give you an exhortation. Speak up, because your voice matters! Isaiah 55.10-11 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Notes: https://www.malcolmcox.org/teaching-tip-413-your-voice-matters-part-18-my-top-tip-tips-for-new-and-inexperienced-speakers-malcolm-cox-2/ Send questions and comments here ➡️ malcolm@malcolmcox.org Subscribe to my Podcast: https://audioboom.com/channels/4909728.rss Get a copy of my free eBook on spiritual disciplines, “How God grows His people”, sign up at my website: http://[www.malcolmcox.org](http://www.malcolmcox.org/).  Connect with me! Today I'm sharing some initial impressions from a day I spent without my phone. I'm currently in the woods for my normal prayer walk, and I'm using my old MP3 recorder instead of my phone because I left it at home. This wasn't an accident; it was a deliberate choice. I did this yesterday and I've done it again this morning. I'm really enjoying this study Malcolm, thank you. I think that as you said, the question is not whether God speaks, but as per Mark 4v23, does anyone have ears that hear and are willing to consider carefully what was spoken? I think all of us are sometimes like rebellious teenagers, with fingers in our ears. All humanity needs God's voice.

Dear Malcolm, thank you for this helpful class series. You asked what does it take to hear God? At this stage of my learning, I think we have to bear in mind the words of 1 Peter 4 v7 to be of sober mind, so that we can discern carefully His voice from all the other noise and not stray into emotional reaction. What to focus on? I like the advice of Ephesians 5v19 to speak to each other with Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.

Lessons in Lot. What a sad story. A powerful warning against greed and fear. Another really great lesson Malcolm, thank you!

Very convicted by Abraham's example of valuing others above himself. And then Paul's words. How amazing is God's grace and immense patience! For some reason I've never noticed the word "immense"! Thank you Malcolm for sharing these insights. Fabulous!
