Here are the show notes. Do you have a title yet? This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel, David, and Ripley, as per usual, and they start things off by discussing, um, time. How unusual! Well, the subject is the time changes in Europe and the U.S., which marginally has to do with watches, although, honestly, there's no segue except for a brief foray into those rare parts of the world that actually run on 30-minute time zone differentials. It all comes 'round. One of the more interesting sidebars that awaits you is convo about the failures of AI when searching for watch info. Take heed! The team gets down to business with an in-depth look at some of the watches we've covered this week, including the Glashütte Original Senator Cosmopolite watch. Next up, hear the guys' thoughts on the Patek Philippe Cubitus Watch, the brand's first new collection in 25 years. David is here in the flesh to discuss his most recent "Grinding Gears" feature article, and then they dip into the latest by Laurent Ferrier. They wrap up with the game we've all come to want, need, crave: Hit Miss Maybe. Check out ABTW on YouTube to catch up on the latest episodes of ABTWW, Hit, Miss, Maybe, video reviews, and more. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Brother Rick is conspicuously absent, so it's Ariel running the show alongside Ripley and David, who all know that to take a podcast vacation now would be to deprive listeners of the comfort of a discussion of their watch hobby straight to their ears. The guys get right to it with a look the new Venezianico Arsenale. Ariel proposes that when glasses take over smartwatches, the wrist will become available again for useless things like mechanical timekeeping. They veer off associatively into the rabbit hole of augmented reality. Getting back to basics, Ripley posits that when simplicity is done right, it can be more impressive than a busy dial because your attention is focused only on a few elements. Next up is the Rolex Sky-Dweller 226938 18k yellow-gold watch, which Ariel likes quite a lot, even though the dial has never sold him on "pretty." Ripley says he'd take it over a Nautilus or a Royal Oak. David agrees that it's a powerful watch in its complications and execution, but it's not right for his wrist (too heavy). Then the team discusses David's most recent "Grinding Gears" article, in which he asks "How long should watch brands milk historic achievements?" Next up is a look at the new Bulova Lunar Pilot "Blood Moon" watch, which David thinks is too large even in its smallest form, but everyone loves the story of this watch. Listen in for more. Speaking of small, the Hamilton PSR74, a modern LED with a retro look. David isn't sure he would spend upwards of $800 on this watch, though he's happy it exists. Then, they discuss the watch that the Venezianico Arsenale wants to be: the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Chronograph in Milano Blue. They end with a look at a deep dive into Bulgari's new watch manufacture and the Hands-On: Tudor Pelagos FXD Chrono 'Cycling Edition' And The Role Of Watches In Professional Cycling | aBlogtoWatch Maybe when Rick gets back, he'll bring Hit, Miss, Maybe with him.
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is back in the proverbial saddle, and the laughs are on high volume again. Ripley is adorned in Tudor cycling gear from head to toe, and Rick admonishes the team by noting their "rubbishment" of Panerai from last week's show, which David wholeheartedly defends. When they get down to business, the "JaGUar" (stet) rebrand is the first item on the docket. (Rick pronounces the word phonetically, which seems to be a British thing.) Then, the guys wax sardonic on a $6.2 million banana "art piece," which segues into a convo about why ABTW doesn't cover watch auctions. Next up, they muse about the pantone color of the year, "mellow brown" and ponder whether or not this will trickle down to watch design. They get serious about Hublot's newest release, complaining about a whole lot of things. As (almost) always, they end with the traditional Hit, Miss, Maybe. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, the opening question is: Where's Rick? Ariel, David, and Ripley ponder Rick's potential whereabouts, with guesses from something related to farming to simply taking a good old-fashioned vacation. The working proletariat goes on without him. Ariel takes the wheel and shares his astonishment at just how many new watch brands are out there; Ripley concurs. If these guys haven't heard of a brand, who on earth could possibly keep up? Jerome Lambert is the next topic of conversation, and the guys ponder his re-assumption of the CEO-ship of Jaeger LeCoultre — is this a demotion? A promotion, of sorts? Ariel thinks going back to the product zone is a promotion; David likens it to sending one's best general onto the battlefield. Ripley discusses the Hamilton Dune and Hamilton's long history of supplying watches for the film industry. (Don't call it a watch — it's a wrist-worn device.) Then, the team deconstructs the new Panerai Submersible, and there's a lot to unpack. They move on to a discussion of where watches fit into the larger luxury landscape. And they can't resist pondering the question of the difference between grade 2 and grade 5 titanium. They end with a question, just as they began: Does Ripley's Honda Fit deserve its own watch? Listen in and find out. Check out ABTW on YouTube to catch up on the latest episodes of ABTWW, Hit, Miss, Maybe, video reviews, and more. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly,Rick and David are both back, so the happy regulars are all reunited. "Who touched whose Cubitus?" is the first question right off the bat, and hilarity ensues. Next up is a look at a WatchPro article regarding Rolex's exit from the Formula 1 stage. They pause for a moment to ponder a lovely and well-photographed visit to Louis Vuitton's Les Fabriques des Arts Workshop, discussing the positioning of the brand in the larger watch world. Then, they guys turn their attention to Mike Razak's recent column about how "small affordable brands are chipping away at the fortress of high-end brands." Next up is a discussion of new releases, including the Doxa SUB 200T Diamonds series. Everyone seems to be talking about the Jaguar rebrand, and ABTW is no exception. It is the focus of the first round of Hit, Miss, Maybe this week — don't miss it! They also go 'round about the new Audemars Piguet X KAWS Royal Oak Tourbillon Concept Tourbillon Companion Watch and the No-Date Steel Omega Seamaster. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, two of the usual suspects, host Rick and regular commentator David are MIA, either gallivanting or recuperating — or both. So, to mix it up, we have Ariel, Sean, and Ripley, kicking things off with Sean's observation that the news cycle, which usually slows around now each year, is still busily speeding forward in surprising and compelling ways. Ripley is sipping tea instead of Scotch — maybe he hasn't seen the results of the U.S. elections yet. Ariel cuts to the chase with a discussion of David's article on Universal Genève, which was just purchased and relaunched by Breitling. (Spoiler alert: Sean and Ripley are both fans.) Then, the team gets into a discussion of one of the most discussed articles on ABTW this month: Ariel's Thoughts: What Is (And Isn't) A Watch Review)? Sean explains that the decision to run this article has to do with journalistic integrity, and Ripley underscores the nature of the beast in the context of other industries. Next up is a discussion of the newest Ferdinand Berthoud Chronomètre FB RES Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition watch, the Citizen Series 8 Collection, and the NOMOS Club Sport neomatik 34. Ariel has been vocal about his thoughts on the price premiums for pre-owned Rolex watches. Listen in to learn what all the fuss is about. They close with a roundtable on the effects of this trend on other brands. Omg, what? No, Hit, Miss, Maybe? Don't tell Rick!
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Ariel is traveling, so Rick is joined by David and Ripley, and guests Kevin and Matt. They start off with a 69k Omega X Swatch — say what? — That's a $300 watch. But it's for charity. Next up in the queue is talk of the end of the Only Watch auction, which would be the end of an era if it had actually been an era. Talk then turns to the GHPG Awards, and Ripley takes note of the brands not participating, and the significance of that in context. The guys briefly touch on the speculative question of how Tr***'s recent election will affect the watch industry. They wrap, as always, with Hit, Miss, Maybe. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel, David, and Ripley (is Ripley sipping Scotch?) on U.S. Election Day. The subject of watches is more of a balm than surveying the political landscape, alas. Ripley is happy that he can now wear his Mondaine Stop-to-Go watch since most U.S. states have "fallen back" to standard time. Surprisingly, no one extended the metaphor to politics, but perhaps the polls hadn't closed yet. Getting down to business, the team starts right off with a review of ABTW's most-read article of the month, David's analysis of why we love to see giants fall. And by "giants," in this case, he means Patek Philippe and its rather smug leader, Thierry Stern. Listen in to learn what the fuss is all about. Then, there's a discussion of the slippery slope of "new old-stock," which Mike takes a solid position on in his recent column. They round the bend toward the finish line with Hit, Miss, Maybe: "the best wristwatch game there is" (Rick).
Recorded during Geneva Watch Days 2024, David sits down with Breitling Global Head Of Heritage Gianfranco Gentile and Breitling Historian Fred Mandelbaum

This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel and David, while Ripley is conspicuously absent, and the three muse about his whereabouts. He's visiting a brand we've never worked with, in a country he's never visited. Maybe the mystery will be solved next week. Meanwhile, the remaining trio gets right to it with a discussion of the news that Rolex is out and LVMH is in with Formula 1. The thesis? It's all about the money. Rick can't keep himself from lol'ing that Donald Trump has upped his grifter game by introducing a line of watches.... for suckers. aBlogtoWatch won't cover this editorially, as it does nothing to advance our conversations about horology, or horology itself. Yeah, you know how this goes. In media news, Watches of Switzerland has acquired Hodinkee, and David artfully expresses that we've known the unknown for a long time — and now the known unknown is known. Listen in, you'll get it. Richard is back to host this week's aBlogtoWatch Weekly show — sadly, he needs a vacation from his vacation — and the team starts right off on its usual quirky path by asking ChatGPT the price of a rhino. What does this have to do with watches? It all comes back to Hublot. (You'll have to listen to decode all this.) Then Rick chastises Ariel and Ripley for talking about too many watches last week. Once that post-mort is done, the guys spend some time talking about Ariel's recent column, whose thesis is that watch consumers don't really care who invented things. An interesting convo ensues. Back on the subject of watch books, which took up a good bit of air time last week, the team discusses the new Rolex Submariner book. Then it's on to some chitchat about watches from Casio, Sinn, and Hublot, followed by the moment we all wait for every week.... Guess the Price of the Seiko! As per usual, they conclude the show with a few rounds of Hit, Miss, Maybe. 0:00 Introduction 9:57 Ariel's Thoughts: Watch Consumers Don't Really Care Who Invented Things First https://www.ablogtowatch.com/ariels-thoughts-watch-consumers-dont-really-care-who-invented-things-first/ 15:34 Perezcope Review Of Rolex Submariner Book. https://perezcope.com/2024/09/30/review-of-the-authorized-rolex-submariner-book-and-why-the-1926-oyster-was-not-the-first-waterproof-watch/ 21:49 Mod Your Casio F91W https://www.crowdsupply.com/oddly-specific-objects/sensor-watch-pro 26:21 Sinn 903 St II Aviation Chronograph With Slide Rule Bezel https://www.ablogtowatch.com/watch-review-sinn-903-st-ii-aviation-chronograph-with-slide-rule-bezel/ 31:42 Hublot Spirit Of Big Bang Tourbillon Sorai Watch https://www.ablogtowatch.com/new-release-hublot-spirit-of-big-bang-tourbillon-sorai-watch/ 38:23 Guess The Price Of The Seiko Seiko Presage Cocktail Time STAR BAR Limited-Edition SRPK93 and SRE015 Watches https://www.ablogtowatch.com/new-release-seiko-presage-cocktail-time-star-bar-limited-edition-srpk93-and-sre015-watches/ 45:00 Hit, Miss, Maybe 49:20 Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Watches https://www.ablogtowatch.com/new-release-jaeger-lecoultre-reverso-tribute-watches/ 1:02:00 Omega Seamaster Regatta America's Cup Watch https://www.ablogtowatch.com/new-release-omega-seamaster-regatta-americas-cup-watch/ 1:11:00 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date Watch In Forged Carbon https://www.ablogtowatch.com/new-release-audemars-piguet-royal-oak-concept-split-seconds-chronograph-gmt-large-date-watch-in-forged-carbon/ Check out ABTW on YouTube to catch up on the latest episodes of ABTWW, Hit, Miss, Maybe, video reviews, and more. With Richard on the lam (or perhaps, as the team muses, at a Scottish day spa with the family and farm animals), Ariel hosts this week's aBlogtoWatch Weekly show, flanked, as always by David and Ripley. They get right down to it with a discussion of a trend in watch world: coffee table books. They flip through the pages of several new releases and ponder their respective audiences. Switching gears, the guys discuss the new Breitling Chronomat NFL Collection watches and express some awe around the partnership itself. Next up is a deep dive into yet another collab: the Marathon 41mm Jeep Willys SSGPM Officer's Mechanical watch. (David wishes the new Jeeps were as sturdy as this watch!) They move on to Mike's review of an elegant worldtimer by Andersen Genève, and then Omega's new Seamaster Regatta America's Cup, which Ariel deems "not pretty but cool." On the other side of the spectrum, the team discusses Hamilton's Khaki Field Murph 38mm watch with a white dial, followed by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Artistical Calibre 184. Even in Rick's absence, Ariel decides to play Guess the Price of the Seiko, with the watch in question being the Presage Craftmanship Series Urushi Lacquer SPB227, a classic design with a twist. (Ripley had to recuse himself because he wrote the article and knows the price.) The show ends with a reflection on Ariel's column about what to expect when you buy a luxury watch. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined not only by Ariel, Ripley, and David but also by Richard Benc from Studio Underd0g. After some chitchat about how expensive it is for brands to attend Watches and Wonders, the guys jump right into a day in the life of Benc, who's starting his day with this podcast and then heading off to launch a new watch! He gives us some of the backstory of the new StudioUnderd0g 03 Series Monopusher, which dovetails with the topic of collaborations and their possibilities and limitations. Next up, there's a philosophical discussion of aBlogtoWatch's Mike Razak's recent column in which he poses existential questions related to our shared hobby. Then, levity returns with Guess the Price of the Seiko, a regular feature on this podcast. After a once-over of the controversial Ulysse Nardin Freak X Gumball 3000 limited edition, the team closes with a round of Hit, Miss, Maybe. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel, Ripley, and David, as per usual. After some chat about Jeff Goldblum's new show, Chaos, in which a certain Casio timepiece figures prominently, Ariel and Ripley explain why they're exhausted. They've just returned from Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California, where the brand debuted two new Apple Watch models. Because they drove up and back in a 12-hour round-trip loop, they were pooped. Nonetheless, they both had much to say about these two new watches, not to mention Apple's security system. David also discussed how some traditional watch brands frown upon watch media covering smartwatches at all — obviously, an interest for many of our readers. Moving on to a release at the opposite end of the spectrum, the team looks at the new Biver Automatique Watches, which Ariel thinks are "nice" in their design to be affordable. Ripley feels sure we'll see the same movement used in the Automatiques appear in other iterations in the near future. The guys have fun with this week's round of "Guess the Price of the Seiko," for which there's a $90,000 price gap among the guesses, so listen in to see who wins and who's way off base. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel, Ripley, and David, the latter of whom is in an automotive showroom eating tiramisu and waiting for his car to be repaired. Ariel muses about why watch repair shops don't have waiting rooms, to which Ripley replies, "That would be a six-month rental." It's been a busy week in watch world, particularly for Ariel and David, who are fresh back from Geneva Watch Days. There was a heatwave in Geneva, and Ariel proclaimed Czapek & Cie to have won the sweat-resistant bracelet contest. David's take on GWD is that it was fun but way too much to take in during the time allotted. The guys get down to business with a look at the new H. Moser & Cie x Studio Underd0g collab, which Ariel thinks was designed in bright colors to attract insects and birds more than people. Rick simply doesn't get it, and David doesn't disagree. They then turn their attention to the new Konstantin Chaykin concept watch, ThinKing, the "world's thinnest mechanical watch." There's not a lot of traction among the team for this watch, either — but remember, it's a prototype. Rick has asked ChatGPT, "Which watch brand collaborations does no one want to see?" and the answer is the best possible argument against AI. Next up, Speake Marin has a new watch, the Ripples Skeleton, that the team has no truck with for various reasons discussed at length. All in all, it's been an iffy week of new watches. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by Ariel and Ripley, along with Kevin Roberts (@kevin_roberts100) Azad Zangana (@aztime), and Will Charlesworth (@inquisitivepheasants). The show begins with banter about bequeathing watches, and Kevin decides, impromptu, who's getting what when he kicks the bucket. When the guys get down to business, the first topic up is Chanel's purchase of 25% of MB&F. The team shares their thoughts on three new watch releases:, starting with lots of love for the Urwerk EMC SR-71, followed by the "weird" but "cool" Hublot MP-13 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Retrograde watch, which Ariel describes as "niche 1.5." Lastly, they hem and haw about the new Roger Dubuis Orbis In Machina, obviously a pun of a name. As always, the show concludes with a round of Hit, Miss, Maybe. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is joined by the usual suspects, Ripley, David, and Ariel. After a brief foray into the scorching weather in Los Angeles and Budapest vs. Scotland, the quadrangle dives into a discussion about why luxury watch brands shouldn't raise prices on a set schedule. Next up, it's Guess the Price of the Seiko (spoiler alert: David won), and then the team scrutinizes a recent Tag Heuer drop from all angles. There's a brief digression about Ariel's push-pull relationship to the idea of maybe, possibly seeing a bear on a camping trip — is it a bear or a deer? No spoilers here. This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Ripley, Rick, and David join from their usual spots while Ariel joins from Banff in Canada! Things kick off with Banff Bear Banter, as Ripley dispenses a surprising breadth of ursine knowledge.
