A Deeper Faith

As humans, we tend to like control, but life in surrender to God, though not easy to do, gives the greater reward both now and eternally. God's Word shows us how we can follow His way of life and find freedom from trying to be the boss of our own life.

Ever wonder what you place your worth and identity in? Take a look at what you give your time, attention and resources to. Ultimately, as Christians, we should place our value in Christ alone, and this has to be an intentional decision each day to not find our identity in external factors that will at some point fall through.

We were not called to figure out this whole faith thing on our own. On that note, God assures us that seeking out community will be a huge asset in keeping our lives honoring to Him. Whether it's through your church, a study group, or elsewhere, it is vital that as Christians, we surround ourselves with like-minded individuals to help  encourage and support each other on our spiritual walks.

Like breathing, it is important that we have both the inhale and exhale. Since prayer is more so the exhale portion, it is important that we also have an equal amount of inhale. Scripture is the written truth about God and who we are in Him and is a vital component in keeping our lives and faith in line with this. 

Just like any relationship we have, communication with God is vital to growing our relationship with Him, as well as allowing our desires and life to look like Christ's. This episode discusses prayer and its importance as our form of communication with God.

"Covetousness is desiring other things, so that your contentment in God diminishes as a result," -Light and Truth Podcast. We have to realize that allowing covetousness to run our lives will choke our spiritual lives. So how do we fight it? One word: contentment; contentment put not simply in what we have, but in God himself. 

Humans have an innate need for rest and recovery, specifically through communing with God. Taking the time to restore yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually is vital for progress as well as allowing God to fill your "tank".

Idolatry is the worship of someone or something other than God as though it were Him. Ask yourself "would I still think God is good if He took this from me?" or "would I be okay if He took (insert here) out of my life?" If you answer no to either of these, itis likely that you are struggling with an idol. Learn why your idols should be replaced with God and how your worth is put in what you worship.

A controversial topic for sure, but one that needs to be talked about more in the faith community. I share my view on the subject, but also want each person to take the time to spend with God allowing the Holy Spirit to personally convict them.

I believe that being a Christian should look like more than simply confessing God as your savior. I believe that faith can and should be examined based on the fruitfulness and purity of a person's lifestyle, and these things are acquired through something called sanctification. Though typically kept within seminary or bible study groups, I personally believe that sanctification is a topic that should be discussed on a larger scale and, in turn, cultivated in each individual Christian.
