Which James wrote this letter? How who was the person behind the letter when it came to upholding The Gospel? How can we use tradition to help us in our witness without letting it take over our goal? These questions are examined as we kick off our study series on the Book of James.    Acts 15:13-19 After they stopped speaking, James responded “Brothers listen to me. Simeon has reported how God first intervened to take from the Gentiles a people for his name. And the words of the prophets agree with this, as it is written: After these things I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. I will rebuild its ruins and set it up again so that the rest of humanity mart seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who are called by my name declared the Lord who makes these known from long ago. Therefore, in my judgement, we should not cause difficulties for those among the Gentiles who turn to God Subscribe to the show and listen to the full episode today at www.aguyandhisbible.com **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. Have you ever lied to God? This is a brutally honest question we all have to ask ourselves. We may not even see it has lying to God, but whenever we convince ourselves that the show of a sacrifice for God without a follow through of the sacrifice itself, we have lied to God and the Holy Spirit.  1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. 2 And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5 Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things. 6 And the young men arose and wrapped him up, carried him out, and buried him. 7 Now it was about three hours later when his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Then immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. And the young men came in and found her dead, and carrying her out, buried her by her husband. 11 So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things. Patrick chats with author D.S. Fisichella as she prepares to release her debut novel.  D.S. has an uplifting story of realizing that even though she grew up in the church, it was not until she was in middle school that she truly understood she was not saved. Since fully taking Christ as her savior into her life, D.S. has tirelessly worked to bring as many as she can to know His redeeming power.  Her new book, “Dreamer”, follows the life of a Christian girl who struggles with accepting forgiveness for the decisions of her past. The book covers topics such as self-harm, depression, and anxiety as well as teenage relationships, friendship, faith and family. What does it mean to truly help mold and nurture a disciple? This week on the playlist, Patrick looks at this question while exploring his favorite songs by worship leader Chris Tomlin.  4 For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? Watering, Working, Warning 5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers through whom you believed, as the Lord gave to each one? 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building 1 Corinthians 3:4-9 Subscribe to the show and listen to the full episode today at www.aguyandhisbible.com **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. One of the things we must remain aware of is we have influence over those around us. No matter what our circumstances, we are called to always be a shining light to both bring people to Christ and to help those in Christ grow in their Godly relationship. What Are You Sowing

What Are You Sowing

2021-05-1715:10

As we go about our lives daily, we must be care what seeds we are throwing out into the world. Sowing for God's Kingdom is what we are called to be doing and we should take this task with the upmost seriousness. Any seeds that are not of God are of the devil and anytime we put something out into the world that is not of God or the Bible it is of Satan. We must be diligent to only plant seeds that are Godly.  8 In my experience, those who plow injustice and those who sow trouble reap the same. How do you go about your day? Is it through thoughtful prayer and consideration fo the will and plans God has for you? Or you do find it is easier to ask for forgiveness for not following God’s plan than it is to ask and wait for Him to reveal with plans for you? Today Patrick looks at three verses in Proverbs that make it clear we should not be moving forward until God tells us too.  1 The reflections of the heart belong to mankind, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. 2 All a person’s ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs motives. 3 Commit your activities to the LORD, and your plans will be established. Keep Forgiving

Keep Forgiving

2021-05-1418:45

We must make every effort too not let unforgiveness and bitterness take hold of our lives. It is a poison that can block the work we do for God's Kingdom by causing us to constantly look back at the people in our past with resentment and hostility instead of with the eyes of Christ.  So if you are offering your gift on the altar, and there you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled with your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24 **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help**

Have you ever felt like no one would listen to you? That the pain and fog you feel in your mind would never go away? This week’s edition of Patrick’s Playlist is all about overcoming the battle of your mind and restoring it with the work God has planned for you. Patrick gives his testimony, which covers his battle with depression, suicide attempts and legal issues to coming out on the other side as a warrior for God.  8 Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things. The ever growing issue of Christians not standing up for God’s true word is not a new one. The Jewish people when returning from captivity did this same thing, as we read about in the Daniel Chapter 11. Today on the show, we examine the start of the discourse the angel provides to Daniel about future events and we come to see that the struggles of the Jews who were standing up for God mirror the struggles of the modern day Christian standing up for the Bible in today’s world.    32 With flattery he will corrupt those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will be strong and take action. Daniel was in this position for three weeks as he waited to hear from God. We must all accept that there are times where we will be exhausted and lonely when doing God’s Word. But it is in those times we have to call out to and rely on God to continue to strengthen our resolve and show us the way He wants us to proceed.  Today podcast looks at the first half of Daniel chapter 10, where we see Daniel worn down and fasting as he prays for clarification of the meanings of the visions he has been having. He will encounter a pre-incarnante Christ as well as what is most likely the angel Gabriel.  Find all episodes on the study of the Book of Daniel plus all of past episodes at www.aguyandhisbible.com  **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help**

It can be very difficult at times to talk to someone who does not know God about the importance of having eternal security in heaven. Especially when we do not know how to even start the conversation. Today, Patrick looks at some questions we can use to get the ball rolling on how to discuss God with those we come into contact with.  For the biblical reference, we look at Paul’s speech to the people of Athens when speaking about their statue to the unknown god.  22 Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus and said, “People of Athens! I see that you are extremely religious in every respect. 23 For as I was passing through and observing the objects of your worship, I even found an altar on which was inscribed, ‘To an Unknown God.’ Therefore, what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. 24 The God who made the world and everything in it—he is Lord of heaven and earth—does not live in shrines made by hands. 25 Neither is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives everyone life and breath and all things. 26 From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live. 27 He did this so that they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 For in him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ 29 Since, then, we are God’s offspring, we shouldn’t think that the divine nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image fashioned by human art and imagination. 30 “Therefore, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God now commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has set a day when he is going to judge the world in righteousness by the man he has appointed. He has provided proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” 32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to ridicule him, but others said, “We’d like to hear from you again about this.” 33 So Paul left their presence. 34 However, some people joined him and believed, including Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them. What is the story of your life? Are you out doing the work God has put you on this earth for or are you staying in your own safe, comfortable little world? Patrick uses the music of #MatthewWest and parts of Paul’s letter to the Church at Ephesus to drive home the point that we must be willing to step outside of our comfort zones and begin to do the work God has called us to do do.  17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
