James 1 17-22

As we get closer and closer to celebrating the birth of our Savior, the stores will get more crowded and people will be on edge. We must remember, as ambassadors for Christ in this world, that anger is not a solution to a situation. In this episode, Patrick recalls a recent journey to a fast food establishment as an example of a way to live out this passage of James. 20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. James 1 11-16

2021-12-0516:30

One phrase we have to remove from our vocabulary is “Gos is tempting me”… God never tempts us because God can not be part of evil… in this passage of James, we look at the true development of sin in our lives. Understanding exactly how sin infests our being and grows within us is vital to helping us understand how to remove it from our lives.  James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. Are You Ready

Are You Ready

2021-12-0117:11

How ready are you for Jesus coming back? Many of us like to answer this question with our mouths, but what God is wanting to know is in your heart, are you truly ready? Patrick takes a look at this question as he examines the parable of the servants remaining watchful.  Luke 12:35-40 “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves. “But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.” Donate to the show today thought Venmo: aguyandhisbible   **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. If someone was to look at your check book or credit card statement would they see God being the center of your life through it? In this parable, Christ teaches us a valuable lesson in where to put our focus when going through life. It is not wrong to have material wealth, but it is wrong when that wealth becomes the focus of your life.  “How people view money is thus an effective barometer of their spirituality. Money is neither good nor bad in itself; corrupt people can put it to evil uses, while good people can put it to righteous uses. Though it is morally neutral, what people do with their money reflects their life priorities.” - John MacArthur Donate to the show today thought Venmo: aguyandhisbible   **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. God puts us through trials so we can produce the endurance He wants us to have to do His service. We must understand that growing spiritually mature is process we will go through so God can work through us for His work.  James 1:4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. How often do you truly forgive someone for something that have done to you? It is extremely important for us to remember that we are called by Christ to forgive those who wrong us, just as God forgives us when we wrong him through sinning.  Luke 7:41-43 “A moneylender had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they were unable to repay, he graciously forgave them both. So which of them will love him more?” Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”  Donate to the show today thought Venmo: aguyandhisbible   **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. Wrestling With God

Wrestling With God

2021-11-1515:45

When we at our most alone point in our lives is when God will come to bring us close to him. Jacob is alone, having sent his family to the other side of the river for protection when the pre-incarnate Christ comes and wrestles with him. What is it that you are struggling with in your life? What things are you wrestling with? Surrender to God and let Him give you a new name!  Genesis 32:28 (NASB) He said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.”  Donate to the show today thought Venmo: aguyandhisbible   **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. Test The Spirits

Test The Spirits

2021-11-0212:07

As representatives of God here on earth, we must make sure we are presenting ourselves fully and completely in a biblical manner. Our churches should be a complete haven for God's Word, not worrying about the ebbs and flows of culture and society. We simply confuse those who have never been to church before or are just starting to come to church when the words and actions of church / ministry leaders do not match what God says. 1  Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world. 1 John 4:1-3 Donate to the show today thought Venmo: aguyandhisbible  **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. Without a firm foundation in God’s Word, our witness is on unstable ground. On today’s episode, Patrick continues his look through the Parables of Christ as he examines what it means to have your foundation rooted in Scripture and the importance of making sure our footing is solid with God when the storms come into our life.  Luke 6:47-49 Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.” Donate to the show today thought Venmo: aguyandhisbible **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. One of the things we must come to understand is how we make the small decisions in our lives, how we answer those tiny insignificant questions we are faced with on a daily basis either helps us draw closer to God or helps pulls us further away from Him and into the world. How you do anything is how you do everything.  2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. It seemed with world came to a standstill yesterday and was thrown into chaos as social media networks crashed. We are called to shine the light of Truth to all the world. The teachings of Christ should be showing through us in all we do, no matter the situation. Luke 8:16-17 Now no one after lighting a lamp covers it over with a container, or puts it under a bed; but he puts it on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. As we continue to examine the parables of Jesus, we look at the parable of new wine into old wineskins. We can not fit our man made religions traditions into the Gospel of Christ. We must understand that our eternal security is through accepting Jesus as our Savior and repenting from our sin. It does not come from rituals and works on our part.  Mark 2:22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.” Website http://www.aguyandhisbible.com Get Social http://www.facebook.com/groups/aguyandhisbible http://www.instagram.com/aguyandhisbible http://www.twitter.com/aguyandhisbible Donate to the show today thought Venmo: aguyandhisbible **If you or someone you love is in crisis, reach out for help** NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness. Patrick kicks off the series on the show as he starts to look at the Parables of Jesus. In this episode, he examines the Parable of the new cloth on an old coat Jesus speaks in Matthew, Mark and Luke.  He must make sure we understand Jesus came to bring us spiritual wholeness, not just to patch our old life for it to fall apart again.  He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. Are You Humble?

Are You Humble?

2021-09-2012:20

Humility is one of the most important, if not the most important, trait for a disciple maker to have. How humble are you? Do you strive not to put yourself above others?  Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. There are times in our lives when we have to make the choice of what we are truly seeking, the praise of man or the praise of God. Patrick examines this idea and looks at ways to help us dig a little deeper into our life to expose the times we are actually putting man’s approval over the praise of God.  John 12:43 for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
