Today I speak with my old friend Taurmini Fentress. A licensed independent clinical social worker with a MPA, she is a wealth of knowledge on the affects of drugs and alcohol especially in those experiencing houselessness. We discuss abstinence vs. harm reduction and how both can be implemented in different capacities depending on the person. Honestly, it is truly about meeting the person where they are. It is at the core of her work helping people. And should be the approach we use more. Kelly Hogaboom is a designer, mother and fellow 12 stepper with a lot of good sobriety. One thing that stuck out to me from our talk was that even though the things we do while in active alcoholism echo out, sometimes years after we get sober, we can still make amends and create a better life for ourselves and our loved ones. Not only the moment of clarity that something is wrong but the notion that something has to be done to fix it.
