ABC Classic Kids

Treat little ears to musical soundscapes and classical compositions with Classic Kids, and start your mini musicians on a lifetime of classical music.  In this immersive introduction to music, children will learn about instrument sounds, develop their musical vocabulary, and explore the importance of listening. Classic Kids is an ABC KIDS listen and ABC Classic co-production. It was produced in collaboration with the Sydney Opera House Children's and Creative Learning program.

Music for The Dreaming: Galaa

Galaa means summer in the Dhurga language of the Yuin People, and in Wreck Bay, summer means fishing! In this episode kids will listen for the sounds of summer like cicadas singing and happy bongo rhythms, do the Rompy Stompy Crab dance, sing-along to Aunty Brenda’s song, and learn Dhurga words associated with the season.

Music for The Dreaming: Dhagarwara

Dhagarwara means Winter in the Dhurga Language of Aunty Brenda’s mob, and in Winter the Lyrebird sings all day long. In this episode, kids will hear a story about the Lyrebird that teaches us about sharing and looking after each other. We'll also visit Great Granny Brown's for bunaan, ceremony, and sing-along to Aunty Brenda’s song Dhagarwara.

Aunty Brenda’s music calls the Spirit of Spring and kids are invited to join in and whisper the Dhurga word "Gambambara". When Gambambara arrives it’s the season of renewal and birth! Join Kamil for a walk as the bush comes alive, clap along with traditional Aboriginal instruments and learn about a special piano technique.

We find out how Grandmother Moon, Dhawara, plays an important part in the cycle of life on Mother Earth. While Grandmother Moon shines full and bright in the sky above Wreck Bay, kids are invited to imagine the sounds of the moonbeams sparkling on the water while the vibraphone plays a beautiful melody.

Music for The Dreaming: Gambambarawaraga

Through Aunty Brenda’s music ‘Footprints’ and teachings from Yuin Elder Noel Butler kids will learn the concept of ‘treading lightly’ on Mother Earth. We imagine footprints in the sand in Wreck Bay as we hear the bass clarinet and bongos create a rhythm that sounds like footsteps, and children can sing-along to Aunty Brenda’s song.

Classic Kids: Music for The Dreaming takes little ears on a journey through the sounds of the seasons on special Aboriginal land, Wreck Bay. Featuring new compositions by Yuin woman and composer, Aunty Brenda Gifford, little ones will; discover how music can tell stories and create atmosphere, hear stories from Yuin Elders about living in harmony with nature, and learn new words from the Dhurga Language of the Yuin People.

Sounds Like Australia Ep1: Kirra Quokka finds a concert ticket

When Kirra Quokka finds a lost ticket to a concert at Sydney Opera House she sets off on a big musical adventure. With the help of her excited friend Carlos the Crow, Kirra gets ready to leave Rottnest Island. In this episode children can hop, swoop and dance along like Carlos Crow, to the sounds of the clarinet.

Kirra wakes up early in the deep bush and uses bird calls to find her way the top of the mountain where she meets Elena Emu who will show her the way to the Sydney Opera House. In this episode, children can march through the bush, and learn how the flute and the piccolo make warbly bird sounds.
