Description

AWS Partner Unplugged is a podcast that speaks to all aspects of AWS' technology applications. In each episode we will select a specific topic (e.g., Large Language Models. significant use case applications, partnership best practices) and an AWS host will interact with subject matter experts to deliberate upon the important reference points within each area of discussion. We are not afraid of ideas that make us more curious and enable us to learn collectively. We look forward to robust discussions, sometimes funny ones too, with the overall goal of making us all intellectually better after than we were before!

In this episode, we discuss the growing adoption of Apache Iceberg as a modern data lake format, exploring how it's becoming the preferred choice for customers migrating from on-premises to cloud-native architectures. The conversation covers AWS's deep integrations with Iceberg through services like Amazon S3, AWS Glue Data Catalog, and SageMaker Lake House, as well as how key partners like Starburst and Snowflake are enhancing the ecosystem with powerful connectors that enable federated querying, flexible catalog management, and seamless data interoperability. We highlight how organizations can easily migrate existing Parquet and ORC data lakes to Iceberg without rewriting underlying data files, and emphasize that this shift represents a move toward future-proof data architectures focused on ease of use, consistent governance, and reduced development time rather than just cost optimization.Contact us:aws-partner-unplugged-podcast-hosts@amazon.comAntony: https://www.linkedin.com/in/antony-prasad-thevaraj-04398518/Links:https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/storage/build-a-managed-apache-iceberg-data-lake-using-starburst-and-amazon-s3-tables/https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/big-data/use-apache-iceberg-in-your-data-lake-with-amazon-s3-aws-glue-and-snowflake/
In this episode of AWS Partners Unplugged, Tarek Makota, Senior Principal Solution Architect at AWS, discusses building resilient SaaS applications for ISV partners. We explore AWS fault isolation boundaries through regions and availability zones, explaining how proper application design can contain failures and prevent them from spreading across an entire customer base. We discuss the misconception that multi-region deployments automatically provide higher resilience, emphasizing that single-region architectures can achieve high availability when properly designed to honor fault boundaries between control planes and data planes. We cover key strategies including load shedding, careful retry implementation to avoid amplifying problems, identifying critical user journeys, and leveraging AWS services like Application Recovery Controller and its Zonal Auto Shift feature, along with Fault Injection Simulator for testing and recovery. Links:https://aws.amazon.com/resilience-hub/https://docs.aws.amazon.com/prescriptive-guidance/latest/resilience-analysis-framework/introduction.htmlhttps://docs.aws.amazon.com/prescriptive-guidance/latest/resilience-lifecycle-framework/introduction.htmlContact us:aws-partner-unplugged-podcast-hosts@amazon.comTarik: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tarik-makota/
