Welcome to Physical Capital, a series centered around the human relationship with swimming. What draws us to it? How do we use it, what do we gain from it… and what it can take from us? We’ll be looking at swimming from multiple angles to help paint a complete picture of the sport. We’re going to be exploring swimming through the prism of ‘Physical Capital' - discussing the physical attributes that can give you an advantage in the water and how they’ve been used to achieve greatness and how they can be affected and influenced by politics, geography and the unequal distribution of resources. And most importantly we’ll be speaking to swimmers - from those that push themselves to their limits in the swimming pool and in open water, to those that swim for fun and for pleasure, and those who document its history. Hosted by Rebecca Achieng Ajulu-Bushell New episodes every Wednesday, Listen and Subscribe here

As a lower class white person, I really appreciate the way this episode explains the connectedness between race and class, and how white lower class individuals are called upon as a group to use to deflect from issues of race. This episode is a brilliant explanation, thank you very much.

Fantastic show... I too have grown up in a county where the majority is white so the Internet is where I learned about racism, through a good feminist site, in my teens.

Sad that the series has ended. It has given me a lot to think about and has reminded me of a lot of situations from my past. At 54 and first generation of Uk born of Jamaican parents, it has shown how far we have come, but also that the journey is still ongong. Thank you

I'm just getting into the realm of podcasts and felt a podcast about race was as good a place to start. Very informative and entertaining, even if just to jog my memory of events id forgotten. I look forwards to future episodes.
