Episode 062 | Bonnie Hodge, MD is a board certified dermatologist originally from Meridian, Mississippi. She specializes in skin cancer detection and treatment, management of psoriasis, acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, other common inflammatory conditions, and more complex conditions such as autoimmune and bullous dermatoses, pigmentation disorders, vitiligo, and prurigo nodularis.As a recent residency graduate, she has undergone extensive training in cutting-edge, evidence-based treatment strategies. She worked under several world-renowned experts in psoriasis, melanoma detection, alopecia, and pigmentary disorders.Dr. Hodge caught my eye through her rising, homegrown stardom on social media. As of the publication of this episode, she has amassed over 54K followers on TikTok! Her story is a great example of what can happen when you have the courage to leverage your expertise by consistently putting yourself in front of a camera and into the algorithm. Episode 061 | Arisa E. Ortiz, MD is the Founder/Creator of Your Pre-Visit, Director of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology, and a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at the University of California, San Diego. She received training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at UC San Diego and also completed the prestigious cosmetic and laser fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Wellman Center for Photomedicine. Dr. Ortiz completed her dermatology residency training at UC Irvine and Beckman Laser Institute. She has authored over sixty publications and several book chapters. Dr. Ortiz also coedited a textbook on surgical reconstruction. She has presented at international and national conferences and is frequently an invited speaker at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS). She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine and has won several awards including the ASLMS Dr. Horace Furumoto Young Investigator Award and ASLMS Best of Session Award for Cutaneous Applications, ASDS President’s Outstanding Service Award, Castle Connolly Top Doctors Award, Exceptional Women in Medicine, and Newsweek America’s Best Dermatologists. She has also been featured on The Doctors & Dr. Pimple Popper. Dr. Ortiz has served as the President of the San Diego Dermatologic Surgery Society and President of ASLMS. Episode 057 | Dermatologists like me — rightfully so — spend a lot of time talking about the short and long-term harmful effects of UV light from the sun. Those are plentiful and very real.However, most of us don't spend enough time talking about the benefits of controlled, moderate doses of UV light and the things we can do to Sun Responsibly beyond just sunscreen, clothing, and avoidance. That's why I get so much inspiration and knowledge from Dr. Katie Varman.Dr. Varman is a board-certified dermatologist and owner of Shine Functional Dermatology located at 566 E St. Lincoln, CA 95648 and Shine Nutraceuticals, LLC.She has a special interest in photo-dermatology and phototherapy and enjoys teaching patients and colleagues about the interaction between sunlight, skin, and the immune system. Episode 054 | Today's episode is all about helping you empower your patients who want to be proactive about scar refinement and optimization. Most dermatologists perform procedures multiple times a day that will undoubtedly result in a scar. While we routinely inform our patients about this as part of the informed consent process, there tends to be far less routine discussion about how patients can optimize the appearance of those inevitable scars. We can and should do better. My guest is Lisa Massaad, Senior Director of Global Marketing & Business Development at Newmedical Technology, makers of the physician exclusive Silagen Scar Refinement System.   Ms. Massaad joined the Newmedical team in 2014 in anticipation of the launch of the Silagen professional line. She manages all aspects of global brand management for the Silagen and NewGel+ brands and serves as team lead for new product development projects. She believes that by fostering sacred relationships of love, trust, and mutual respect and creating an environment and community whereby children and families affected by skin disease feel seen, heard, understood, valued, and supported, they are empowered, transformed, and healed in profound and life-changing ways.Dr. Julapalli has been blessed to facilitate and witness these transformations through her involvement with support groups and camp programs throughout the country, including the American Academy of Dermatology-sponsored Camp Discovery, Paul Newman's SeriousFun Network, and the American Camp Association, as well as through local workshops and healing circles that she leads.She is the founder of The Joyful Path, whose mission is to help children build the intuition of how to nourish their mind, body, and soul so that they may live, love, and serve generously with an open heart, intention, and purpose.In addition to her philanthropic pursuits in her local and national communities, Dr. Julapalli is dedicated to serving children abroad. She has volunteered her time and expertise at a pediatric HIV/AIDS clinic in Lesotho, Africa, at orphanages and schools in Nicaragua, with children and adults with albinism in Tanzania, and most recently with people in impoverished villages in northern Thailand.Dr. Julapalli's adventures also include being a children's book author, wisdom coach and yoga instructor for kids, Reiki master, world explorer (she has been to all 7 continents, all 50 states), avid hiker, meditator, sound healer/instrumentalist, and amateur swing dancer!She's also simply one of the most truly joyful and generous people I've ever met.
