Description

Every two weeks your host Greg and his co-hosts Leon and Rahul discuss comics in all their forms; monthly issues, collected volumes, graphic novels, newspaper strips, film tie-ins, TV tie-ins, flip-books, pictures scribbled on the backs of napkins...
If it tells a story in sequence through art and text, rest assured we'll have something to say about it.

In this episode, Greg is joined by special guest Dr Joe Sutliff Sanders (https://www.acecomicals.com/guests/drjoesutliffsanders) to discuss, primarily his work in creating and launching the first world-class collection of graphic novels at Cambridge’s Lucy Cavendish College (https://www.lucy.cam.ac.uk/blog/graphic-novels-collection-cambridge-university). The initial and core focus of the library is the prioritisation of works by LGBTQ+ creators, women, Indigenous peoples and people of colour. We discuss the reasons behind the decision to create this groundbreaking library and collection at an institution like Cambridge University, along with how this might impact the medium. We discuss why this library is important and also what the potential of the library might be in the future. We touch on his other work within the comics sphere as an academic, and also talk about the comics, stories and experiences that have informed Dr Sutliff Sanders (https://www.acecomicals.com/guests/drjoesutliffsanders) as a champion of the medium among a range of other things! (a lot of Batman). This Library is being built using cash donations. any donations, large or small in any currency are gratefully accepted. To support the Lucy Cavendish College Library’s Graphic Novels Collection donations can be made here: https://www.lucy.cam.ac.uk/single-donation These donations go straight to the Graphic Novels Collection -- only that and nothing else -- so donors can be assured that they are helping to make outstanding authors who are female, queer, indigenous, marginalized, and people of colour part of the conversation for all time. Comics are a unique medium that has a wealth of wonderful voices from marginalised backgrounds and it is important that we pay attention and raise these voices and stories up. We get to sit down and have a chat with legendary creator David Lloyd about their long and varied career as an artist in comics including the medium defining V FOR VENDETTA (https://www.dccomics.com/graphic-novels/v-for-vendetta-1988/v-for-vendetta) We will also be taking a look at ACES WEEKLY (http://acesweekly.co.uk) A digital anthology title composed of serials and shorts that is published and edited by David LLoyd. It's a real eclectic mix of comics talent and styles designed purely for digital consumption. We fully recommend you check it out here! (http://acesweekly.co.uk). We get to talk alot about David's influences and opinions on the current state of the comics industry, as well as his reasons and the guiding philosophy behind ACES WEEKLY (http://acesweekly.co.uk). This is a big episode for us and we were absolutely honoured to have David LLoyd join us for such an interesting discussion!
