Hey folks, this is Adam Farris, with the Adam Farris podcast October is national disability employment awareness Month or for short in NDEAM. And we need to start focusing more on inclusion in the workplace. Inclusion in leadership and inclusion and board of directors. I really don't like when I see individuals get turned away for a job where they are qualified and they have a disability. I also don't like to see but I go into a website for a corporate company and their disability and inclusion is not good. Take a listen and have a nice day as well take care More information about NDEAM he found on the department of labor's website listed below. https://www.dol.gov/agencies/odep/initiatives/ndeam Then please remember to visit Adam Farris online as well. https://linktr.ee/adamfarris123 you can also become a paid subscriber and support my future work. https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/adam-farris/subscribe --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/adam-farris/message

Become a Paid subscriber of the Adam Farris Podcast https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/adam-farris/subscribe Hi, My name is Adam Farris and I have Tourette Syndrome, But Tourette Syndrome does NOT have me. I was diagnosed with #TouretteSyndrome at the age of 6, And I am 35 years old now. In my teenage years, my #Tourette was out of control. I had loud hooting and shouting noises. When I asked my parents if I could go out to public places like movie theaters and restaurants, they said yes. Whenever someone asked me about the noises or made a rude comment, I would just explain to them that this is who I am and this is what I have. If they would like to go somewhere else, then they can, but I am staying here and enjoying myself. Tourette Syndrome has affected me in many ways. One of my former doctors put me on a lot of high-dose anti-psychotic medications for a long time, which then made me like a zombie pretty much throughout the day. I was sleeping too much and was not able to concentrate because of the medications I was on.  Eventually, this made my hands shake really badly.  We switched doctors and my doctor now is really great! I also work at a retail store here in Houston, Texas as a cashier. Sometimes you may see me struggling at work. I may ask someone to help me out with bagging or help me bag the breakable items.  Please respect my request as this can be hard for me to accomplish due to my shakiness in my hands.  Having tics is a little bit like having hiccups. Even though you might not want to hiccup, your body does it anyway. Sometimes people can stop themselves from doing a certain tic for a while, but it’s hard. Eventually, the person has to do the tic. I have Tourette Syndrome, but Tourette Syndrome does not have me. ” – Adam Farris FYI You Are Not Alone if you are an individual with Tourette syndrome, there are support groups and other similar groups that you can join. do not feel left out, and don't allow anyone to keep you isolated. please get out into the public, and go to restaurants and if someone makes a comment or a grimace just let them know that I have Tourette's and this is what is called, and that you cannot help it. According to the CDC, https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/tourette/facts.html Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a condition of the nervous system. TS causes people to have “tics”. Tics are sudden twitches, movements, or sounds that people do repeatedly. People who have tics cannot stop their body from doing these things. For example, a person might keep blinking over and over. Or, a person might make a grunting sound unwillingly. Having tics is a little bit like having hiccups. Even though you might not want to hiccup, your body does it anyway. Sometimes people can stop themselves from doing a certain tic for a while, but it’s hard. Eventually, the person has to do the tic. Ways to support and help out Tourette's and The TS Community: 1. Hi my name is Adam Farris. I have Tourette Syndrome but Tourette Syndrome does not have me.  I was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome at  the age of 6.  And I am 33 years old now. I was sleeping too much and was not able to concentrate because of the medications I was on.  Eventually this made my hands shake really badly.  We switched doctors and my doctor now is really great.! He helps me out with my shakiness in my arms and my head by giving me a very very small shot of Botox (yes the kind you get for wrinkles but not exactly) every three months. This has actually helped with the shakiness in my hands. I also work at a retail store here in Houston Texas as  cashier. Hi my name is Adam Farris. I am a cashier at Walmart in Houston Texas. I strongly believe that customer service is what makes or breaks a business. Without good customer service we will not have businesses or businesses to give us jobs. In my 14 years plus years of experience with customer service in retail I've seen a lot evolve. But recently I've seen different things evolve especially in technology. I believe retail is undergoing a master transition with a digital disruption regarding cashier-less registers. With one cashier per one scan and go register I believe it's going to backfire one day and then companies are going to have to go back and fix it the way Sam Walton had it. Let me explain further. For example, someone can take a $5 sticker from a product place it on a $1,000 TV , scan it at the scan and go and be out the door in no time. Also things like the robots cleaning the floors or the robots stocking the shelves are taking away jobs from people. In my opinion we cannot have retail or customer service without people interacting with one another. I feel that is what really matters in the end. Thank you very much and have a nice day.
