Yeah, its been a minute.. COVID19 got us scrambling around so we can produce content as we stay at home and not in our studio... But we are here.. So we begin our resurgence with an exceptional spotlight on the Kenyan Superband Sauti Sol. They've just released a new LP and we are featuring it here. Not only that, I go a chance to speak with the guys live from Nairobi.. so you can hear in thier own words, what the music is all about and even how they are feeling as they watch the winds of change and protests for social justice blow here in America... This one is a great episode!!
Yeah.. we are locked in under stay at home orders in response to the Corona Virus pandemic. We took to our computer and produced a great episode for you. We produced a video version of Afropop Radio so that we coujld experiment but wanted to make sure we posted the audio as well. we took some lumps with audio quality but we did the bestwe could given the cirmcumstances.... enjoy this great show and we will continue to give you the best in contemporary frican music even thru this time. As the world pauses to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., AfroPop Radio examines the juxtaposition of the fight for freedom and equality through some rarely heard speeches delivered by Dr. King. We then play the original "Takuta" as recorded in 1973 by Babatunde and while it sound nothing like the offering by Youssou, it is indeed a vibrant tribute to the AfroBeat master... Enjoy...

His story is complex. He started out as a shining example of liberation's heroism, but turned out to be a dictator, despot, corrupt head of state.
