"Albert Murray and the Aesthetic Imagination: A Symposium" was the first in an annual series of programs produced in association with Pebble Hill Books. The symposium was held on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at the Dixon Conference Center. Sponsored by Auburn University's College of Liberal Arts' Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities in partnership with Tuskegee University, the symposium featured scholarly presentations and a keynote address by John Callahan (literary executor of Ralph Ellison's estate) on the life and works of Albert Murray, a cultureal critic, blues expert, writer of fiction and poetry, a founder of Jazz at Lincoln Center, New York City resident, and Alabama native. The 2009 Pebble Hill Book program will feature discussions of and a reading by author Lewis Nordan.
