Jenny Oaks Baker began playing the violin before elementary school and she has not stopped since. Her violin has taken her all around the world and given her opportunities she’d never dreamed of. But there have also been opportunities she has sought that have never come to fruition and other opportunities she didn’t even know to seek that have made her life much richer than it would have been otherwise. On this week’s episode, Jenny shares her witness that sometimes the Lord’s plans are much better than the plans we have for ourselves.  2:59- The Role of Parents 10:10- Music Education 11:41- Trusting the Lord 16:40- Choices as a Young Mom 27:36- Hard Work and Dreams 30:30- Performances Behind the Scenes 37:32- Identity and Talents 41:55- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? In fact, in 2023, Rooks fell in his third lap at the USA Track and Field Nationals but came back to win the race. Ryan Shupe: Big Dreams and Little Decisions Ryan Shupe is best-known as the singer of a hit song called “Dream Big” but on today’s episode, Ryan shares with us his take on small decisions and how those small decisions can have big, lasting impacts. Ryan shares that these decisions are often the result of trusting in personal revelation and acting on that inspiration. So, while Ryan’s life has certainly been impacted by a single song, he recognizes that it has been many decisions along the way that have made all the difference. 1:54- The Father of Ryan and Bluegrass in Utah 5:15- 5 A.M. So it’s just this balancing act of how far do you push something because you know if you keep pushing maybe you could get that but it would be at the expense of something else.” Links:  Deseret News articles referenced: https://www.deseret.com/2006/11/24/19987240/the-unique-sounds-of-ryan-shupe/ https://www.deseret.com/utah/2021/7/4/22554176/all-eyes-on-wallsburg-utah-as-the-father-of-bluegrass-music-readies-for-a-festival-of-a-lifetime/ Dream Big Music Video- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3KwEuNapzt0&pp=ygUJRHJlYW0gYmln ----- Join us for Magnify's Lift Up Your Heart coming this fall! As a former Young Single Adult ward bishop and institute teacher, Tyler Johnson has worked with many young adults who have questions and concerns regarding their faith and/or their belief in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has observed that many of these concerns stem not from rebellious desires but rather from a place of integrity and that often where there is a question, there is often an underlying emotion. Emily Inouye Huey’s father was born in a prison camp during World War II. His parents were imprisoned simply for the color of their skin and suffered terrible injustices. The complexities surrounding conversations of racism today are numberless but the root of the solution is the two great commandments: love God and love your neighbor as yourself. On this week’s episode, we talk with Abe Mills and Stephen Jones, two black Latter-day Saints, about their experiences with racism within Church culture, the faith of those who came before them, and why they don’t hesitate to share their faith in Jesus Christ. "Understanding what He did for us, it gives us hope, which we live in a world with a lot of people that have no hope or they’ve lost their hope—whether it’s hope in equality, hope in fairness, hope in whatever—they’ve lost their hope, but the gospel has taught us hope because we know what Jesus Christ did for us. It has taught us understanding because we know Christ was the example of understanding, and on top of that, it has taught us forgiveness, or how to forgive, in a time where forgiveness is needed greatly." -Abe Mills Links: Article: Medium Op-ed from President Nelson and NAACP leaders: "Locking Arms for Racial Harmony in America." While sitting in a class at the theological seminary he attended, Michael Huston was floored when he heard his teacher say these words: “Lament is faithfully complaining to God.” The teacher went on to say, “Lament is the way you worship to God from within pain.” Huston describes the feeling he felt that day as exhaling a breath he had been holding for a very long time. If the walls of the Kirtland Temple could speak, they would tell you what they saw that day—April 3, 1836—when the Living Christ appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. Still, the temple stands as a witness of the reality of the Resurrection that we celebrate at Easter. This episode was great. I love country music and I was so glad to hear that there are people in the industry from my faith. I knew only about She'daisy, who have faded out and moved on with families. I wish my kids could attend Brother Martin's Seminary class. The youth (and everyone else) of this world need more positive lyrics in their music.

Listening to these claims after the post pandemic facts of have emerged making so much of them just propaganda and skewed if not profit driven good enough for profit science is frustrating and sad. I wish the church hadn't been so coercive and belittling to those who received the inspiration and doctor advised counsel to not accept these shots. Too many untimely deaths and adverse reactions causing severe and often permanent damage to previously healthy people. This was a lab created super virus paid for by our own government. Unbelievably sad.

I thought this was going to be another podcast that extolled the virtues of motherhood and how women contribute to that part of the gospel. But Lynne's comment at the end (paraphrasing here) that we are "measuring the wrong thing" when comparing men's and women's responsibilities in the church just opened a whole new thought pattern for me. Instead, she said that we should be focusing on how we are serving as disciples of Christ - that should be our measure of what is represented in His church. ♥️

Just wanted Julie and Dave to know I to, was one of those many Heaton’s wandering up and down Main Street in Moccasin my grandmother was Amy Heaton Esplin, sitting on the church lawn that day it occurred to me that I shared the same DNA with at least 75% of all these strangers. To me that’s pretty amazing and second I thought of Grandma Heaton( Lucy) she said her one her favorite thing to do was to sit and watch her children and grandchildren at play across the street at the school. I’m pretty sure she was there that day with Grandpa Heaton (Jonathan) and Grandma Heaton (Amy) in spirit what must they have thought of all of us gathered together to honor their legacy that grew out the love they had for each other it gives me strength just thinking of the well of support we have on both sides of the veil

I have listened to most of the episode on this podcast and this is by far one of the best. Kate and Brett had such unique insight into how we need to fall in love with the gospel. After listening to them talk I wanted to move to Oklahoma and be their neighbors so I could have deep conversations about the gospel and life in the second half.

So glad I listened to this episode! it was very enlightening for me to hear Zandra talk about how we need to work through uncomfortable situations not by avoiding them, but by letting the Holy Spirit be the comforter and bring peace to the moment. Such a good reminder for me of his role in our lives.

This transaction thinking comes from the scripture that there is a punishment/reward attached to each commandment. And the Lord tells us in the D & C 82:10 I am bound when u do what I say. Is this faulty thinking?

sorry. that sounded snarky. I am just in a very different place, but that is one of the greatest things of the gospel and the Lord. so many different people from different walks of life and he makes sure we have what we need to learn and grow.

I have to admit that this podcast was hard for me because I have never had a fairytale life. Things have always been a....fight or struggle in my life. From a young age life has been hard. I understand that the Lord will make things fair on the other side, but my 2020 was so hard with 4 funerals and, dead dog and covid and broken knee and more. I just sometimes feel frustrated to hear how someone else is having a good time when I am awash in grief.
