In 1979, disco was a dominant force in American music. It took the top spots in the Billboard charts, and sold countless records. But with its culturally diverse audience, disco faced a major backlash. And that would lead to a crisis one evening in July of 1979, when a promotional event at a baseball game turned into a riot. Vince Lawrence was at that game, and has since become a music producer and documentary filmmaker. He and Lindsay discuss the meaning of that infamous night, and how disco’s legacy is still with us today, in music and in culture.Listen to new episodes 1 week early and to all episodes ad free with Wondery+. Is it just me, or did this episode feel like it rushed right through the middle and end of the story?
lmmmmm
well done
okay only a few minutes in, and she is breaking my heart. why didn't she just tell no lies and do her job right.
ugh. this pisses me off. Hoover always was and always will be a piece of shit.
Drowning in drug cases? Maybe don't make it a crime to have a disease then!
I live in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 The cults here never 👎🏽 last as we aren’t as desperate to believe in SOMETHING
I’m an Aussie & all I can say is BUSH knew everything that was going on Doggie fuck
I think it's gross that the response to falsified evidence is "criminals could go free" instead of "innocent people could be in jail"
Good job Lindsay it was a very interesting pod cast
Another fine example of corruption by a prosecutor
wow. Means played Chingachook in one of my favorite movies.
this is so Trumpy, it's gross
everyone who wants to run for public office should have to undergo therapy and anyone found to have narcissistic personality disorder should not be allowed to do so. I think it would prevent a lot of big problems like McCarthyism
I'm ashamed I didn't know about this story until Judas and the Black Messiah.. although maybe more pissed off than ashamed, should have been taught it in school.
I'd be disinclined to believe the government's account of the start of the fire. Since when could the government be trusted to tell the truth about anything, much less admit accountability?
it just skips the whole Harvard game.......
This story is so infuriating because whatever the inhabitants of the compound did, the government did worse. And they did bad things - David Koresh was a pedophile and he molested kids - but the ATF killed those kids.
unsure if I'm emotionally ready to listen to this in 2021..........
hope you do an episode on the newest Cuomo scandal and resignation!
