Description
American Shadows is a bi-weekly podcast from iHeartRadio and Aaron Mahnke’s Grim & Mild. The show focuses on the darker stories from American history: the people, places, and things that are hidden and forgotten in the shadows. From better-known tales like the conspiracy to steal Lincoln’s body, to less-known stories, like the rainmaker who flooded San Diego. Join host Lauren Vogelbaum as she spans two centuries of omitted lore from our country’s history books.

nooooooo!!! LAST EPISODE!?!? 😭😭 Lauren..are you doing any other shows? I don't really dig Lore or the other podcasts...just this one 😭 Legit bummed.
nooooo!!!! I'm so sad this is the last episode!!!! I'm going to miss this show so much 😢
Soooo... some of the basic facts stated about the geography of the Hawaiian Islands areunbelievably wrong...such as Mauna Kea is 13,800 ft tall, vs the 9 thousand something stated...and Maui only has 1 active volcano, not two, and some other fact checking mishaps that I noticed, and find a little concerning! Otherwise, I thought the culture (great pronunciation, btw) was well portrayed, and the history wasn't white washed like I've often heard in other podcasts.
Love the show, but nearly every episode has glaring mispronunciations of common words. For a Grim & Mild production, I expect a better quality of care and editing. Aaron set a standard that isn't being followed.
I thought Lavinia Fisher (1820, hanged, Charleston, SC) was the 1st woman executed in the US.
Pronounced Rawley, not Rally.
I can't focus on the story, because her voice/inflection is extremely obnoxious.
Jessy James brothers name is Frank James.
I live in the town where Edward Jenner practiced medicine. It's an Indian restaurant now lol.
Murder Inc and echoare the same episode. The description suggests it should be different
not sure if it's my player but the episode labeled murder Inc is a past episode on cruise ships.
Such a wonderfully told and informative podcast. #americanshadows
Wow, great story about Irving Berlin! Tears in my eyes! #Godblessamerica
I'm pretty sure she said "On May 1 1983 Grover Cleveland..."
Wow, I am loving this podcast, but am especially moved by this episode. I have Revolutionary War Patriots in my family and found the descriptions of prison ships fascinating.
Background music too distracting.
BRILLIANT episode, touching on themes of double standards, mysogeny, and sexism from the 1800's that, astonishingly, aren't much less true, today.
Excellent story. But by adding adjectives to nouns such as Republican and Democrat, you show your cards and further keep a divide active.
