Neil and I are back for Season 8 of our show. If you're still listening... God bless you. In this show we talk a bit about the 25th anniversary of Lord of the Rings, and we talk about what movies would make good Muppet remakes. You know by now what we do.
Neil’s comic corner attempt! We get interrupted…a lot…and ultimately my mic drops so we’ll probably redo some conversation in the future. Before the train crashes on this episode we talk brave and the bold, 1960s comics, PG-13 movies we’ve let our kids watch. Then Elyssa drops in and my mic drops out.
Meet Mason, our only fan, he likes us for some reason and we brought him on the show! We give the 10 commandments of retreat writing. Here is the list: Thou shall create a space to encounter Christ Thou shall create a budget Thou shall not use “you” Thou shall let teens be teens Thou shall not treat retreats like one time experiences Thou shall always be one step head Thou shall not have phones Thou shall not wing it Thou shall be able to pivot What’s your 10th commandment? Gratuitous Sound Clips That’s not my catnip!

To kick off our fall season we’re recording live at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Festival in early October! For This episode Neil and I catch up on Summer happenings, then dive into Pope Leo XIV’s Apostolic Exhortation Dilexi Te which I read and made me feel poor because I’m dramatic. So I talk about how Money is a scam and doom and the end is nigh, while Neil reminds me that I’m not poor I’m just an idiot. It’s a great conversation. Gratuitous Sound Clips: * Fiddler on the Roof: Tevye reacts to the idea that money is the worlds curse
Neil and I talk a little about our summer vacation plans, then talk about the election of the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV! We play a little pope nickname game, and what it means to start taking care of your aging parents. So last minute my wife Gevie and I were asked to give a talk at a young adults event in the Archdiocese called Coffee and Creed. The original speaker was unable to attend, so we got invited to step in. The other guy was going to talk about balancing life and faith and work and all that, but Gevie and I don’t do that well (I bet you can tell by the frequency of this Podcast episode release dates) so we decided to give the talk on Love Marriage and Dating. About 60 or so young adults came and we had a blast. Hope you enjoy it too!
An episode that was supposed to air in December 2024. Neil and I wrap up our thoughts on talk writing and then we enter into Neil’s Comic Corner for a recap of his silver age comic book walk through with his son Robert. In this installment of Neil’s Comic Corner we also talk about how issue numbers and volumes got counted. It’s all Crisis fault. Gratuitous Sounds Clips Mick Thomas Comedy
Neil and I dive into a theological/ethical topic! We talk about the relationship between virtue, those habits the perfect us, and techne, those activities that ease and make our work efficient. Where is the line between being lazy blobs and allowing technology do all the things for us making our lives easy but ultimately less human (think the people on the Axiom on Wall-E) and allowing technology to make our work efficient, allowing us to fulfill our humanity?
Everything starts with talking about walking into closed glass doors, which quickly dissolves into a conversation about how mean my kids are. Then we spend a little time talking about what happened to the show since November of 2024 lol. The actual topic, if you can call it that, is the movie and tv show quotes that worked their way into our everyday conversations. We’re mimetic creatures so it makes sense, but the stuff that sticks with us sure doesn’t. Get ready for the sound clips. The show rounds out with a recap of RE Congress, and a preview of some things coming to the Las Vegas Archdiocesan Conference this year! Enjoy!! We bring back Neil’s comic corner and he teaches David all about the different ages of superhero comics. Anthony Sperduti and his brother Luigi have a production company LOST IN THE DARK PRODUCTION Check out a few of her short films on YouTube: Clown Cold We run a Horror Movie Draft picks for this one here are the rules we played by so if you want to play along or adapt this for your own game go for it: Any Horror Movie can be picked by any person for any category. Movies only. No TV shows, no Halloween Specials. Once a Horror Movie or actor(tress) or other element of a particular Horror movie has been picked in a specific category, it and all related sequels are off the table in that category. All films reset after each Round, so those who have been picked can be picked again in the new Round. The order of picking goes by random drawing for the first category, then whoever went first in the first category goes second in the next category, and the person who went last in the first category gets to go first in the second category and this continues until all categories have been selected. 1. We start with Christmas recaps where Neil realizes that he’s the true patron of his family now, passing him the torch to be a real Clark Griswold. Neil and I argue about calendars and when the Gregorian Calendar replaced the Julian Calendar for some reason. This brings us to Lent and our Lenten struggles for some reason led us into talking about why Millennials and Gen Xers are so overprotective of their kids and into a segment that we would like to call random story time. In this episode of random story time we tell the story of how my daughter and Neil’s son ran over a three year old in cold blood in a power wheels car. We end the conversation by giving a couple of sneak peaks at some (hopefully) upcoming new Among Wolves episodes and since we don’t know how to land the plan we spend the last 20 minutes talking about the Oscars and Oppenheimer. Neil teaches me all about March Madness, turns out these are college games and not professional ones. Who knew? The bulk of our conversation surrounded the idea of internal and external goods. How our culture is switching from a focus on the internal goods of their work (perfecting the craft) to a focus on the external goods (recognition, money, etc).
