Description
Welcome to Ampersand. I'm your host Jenny Chen. Ampersand is a podcast about integrating all parts of ourselves and how beautiful life is when we do so.
My mission in life is to be the fullest expression of myself and to empower others to do the same. As a result, I see Ampersand as a sandbox for me to explore various aspects of my being, practice leading with vulnerability, and connect deeply with others.
If any of this piques your interest or lights you up, come along for the ride. It's an imperfect one full of laughter and tears and I'm so grateful you're here.

Reflections on my break from podcasting, my latest calling, and what a calling feels like
Hello dear listeners, happy 2025. I'm returning to my podcast after an 8-month hiatus during which time much has shifted for me internally and externally.
In this episode, I share why I took a break, what's changed since we last chatted, and my intentions for this next season of Ampersand.
Thank you all so much for your patience during this time in which I stepped away from this means of creative expression to explore other facets of my life.
For those interested in joining me or continuing to accompany me in my imperfect, curious, and open-hearted journey, be sure to subscribe to my podcast on your preferred platform.
I'm still taking a break from Instagram, Substack, and LinkedIn, so this is the best place to be notified when my subsequent episodes air.
With warmth and care,
Jenny
Hello dear listeners. This episode wraps up season 1 of Ampersand, after which I’m taking a break to focus on other priorities and reflect on what I’d like to center in season 2.
To conclude this season, I invited several people who inspire me to record or write their responses to three questions:
1. What’s one of the greatest life lessons you’ve learned and can you share some of that story behind it?
2. What’s one of the biggest things you’ve let go of in your life, whether it’s a way of being, a place, people, etc? What prompted this decision, and how did it catalyze growth or transformation?
3. What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself?
This episode compiles responses from 18 beautiful humans (myself included!). I hope you enjoy it. As always, it’s a pleasure and honor to share this content with you.
From my heart and soul to yours (and until next time),
Jenny
I recorded this guided meditation on a day when I didn't sleep well the previous evening and felt called to record this to support folks who feel tired, exhausted, or low-energy for one reason or another.
My intention with this meditation is to help you carve out the next 10 minutes for you and to give you permission to rest and receive.
With restfulness and tenderness,
Jenny
Join me in this guided meditation focused on supporting you in reconnecting with self-trust in periods of uncertainty where you may feel like you're in a void, you're sitting before the unknown or the great mystery, or you're in this liminal space between where you were and wherever you're meant to be next.
I hope you enjoy this one.
With love and care,
Jenny
Tune into the transformative journey of Stace Povey, former founder and lead facilitator of Dreamglade, an ayahuasca retreat center nestled in the Amazonian jungle of Iquitos, Peru that I’ve had the honor of visiting in 2017 and 2022. Join us as we delve into his relationship with the medicine of ayahuasca, other plant medicines and mind-altering substances, tracing the evolution of his relationship with these powerful tools from his earliest encounters to how he relates to them today.
In this candid and refreshing conversation, Stace shares the story of how his path unexpectedly led him to Peru, the experiences that shaped his calling to establish Dreamglade, and the remarkable journey of running and ultimately transitioning this retreat center to new ownership after 10 years. His decisiveness and unwavering trust in the face of monumental transitions offer invaluable insights for anyone navigating periods of change, providing solace and inspiration in the midst of endings and new beginnings.
I hope you find this conversation valuable and inspiring and that it finds you at the right time in your life.
About Stace:
Stacy Stephen Povey was born in London, England, but has spent the last 16 years living in Peru. He has dedicated most of that time to helping as many people as possible through working with the local medicinal plants and indigenous healing practices.
His journey began at 18 years old, where he realized that the thing that scared him more than anything else was that one day, he would reach the end of his life and he would look back with enormous regret that he had not lived it to the absolute fullest. He vowed, then and there, that he would live his life in such a way that when he reached a ripe old age, he could write a book about it all.
Since that fateful decision, his journey has been one filled with some pretty epic adventures, with extensive travels to all corners of the globe, including 3 Atlantic crossings by sailboat and driving an old army truck, solo, across the Sahara desert. In the 90's he organized underground dance parties in the South of Portugal.
His most recent quest was building a beautiful Shamanic Healing Center in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. He ran that very successful and highly regarded healing center, Dreamglade, for 10 years and personally helped facilitate the healing journeys of over 2000 guests.
Stace currently lives in the Northern Amazon region of Peru with his Peruvian partner and 3 beautiful children.

When was the last time you listened, truly listened, to the sound of your voice?
When was the last time you shared words of love, care, and gratitude for yourself and your voice from a place of deep presence?
This guided meditation allows you to explore these two questions in a safe space.
If you're ready to meditate on this, find a quiet spot where you'll be undisturbed for the duration of the meditation and press play.
I'll be here, and we'll meditate together.
Take a meditative walk with me.
I guide you inward, outward, and back again, supporting you in slowing down, tuning in, and bringing a fuller presence to this simple and beautiful act of walking.
Hey there, perfectly imperfect human. If you've ever experienced sadness or depression and wondered how you might relate to these oftentimes big and charged emotions in healthier ways, this episode is for you.
Rishi and I delve into the depths of these emotions and share our own dance and relationship to them, normalize them, discuss nourishing ways of relating to them and welcoming them, unpack "depression imposter syndrome" and why we sometimes question the validity of our own depression, how to practice bearing witness to someone’s humanity, and much more.
I begin this episode with a raw and honest reflection on some of my fears around publishing it, how I moved through them with Rishi’s support, and why I'm choosing to publish it now. If you'd prefer to move straight into the content, the episode officially starts at 13:59 with a grounding practice.
May this deep and soulful conversation serve as a reminder of your own humanity, the importance of allowing and relating to the full spectrum of emotions so that we can experience the fullness of life, and the great medicine and teachings of sadness.

In a world where dating apps can feel transactional and leave people feeling burnt out, frustrated, and a failure, Alexandra Ballensweig and their dating platform, humhum, provide a balm and nourishing container for weary and open-hearted souls looking to date differently.
In this episode, Alexandra Ballensweig examines romantic connection through two lenses: their work in stewarding and co-creating humhum and their long-distance partnership.
Alexandra starts with insights on how humhum, their dating platform that challenges transactional and fast-moving dating paradigms, came to be via collaboration with a force greater than themselves, what it means to align with their purpose, and the process of building and refining the core humhum experience with a growing team.
Alexandra also dives into their and their partner’s engagement with choice-point practice, the importance of carving out dedicated time for self-reflection, and the art of practicing with emergence.
May this dialogue remind you that dating can feel refreshing, easeful, and joyful, and there are spaces and people with whom you can bring your full self and connect authentically.

About Ayana:
Ayana has been a devoted student of the ancestral shamanic traditions of Mesoamerica and South America for over 5 years. She considers herself an apprentice to the Great Mystery and to Life. A driving force behind her path in this life is to share the ancestral teachings she comes across and has healed through within community in order to awaken consciousness and bring deeper healing and understanding to humanity.
As a guide and facilitator, she offers cacao circles rooted in the Mayan teachings of her elders, plant medicine integration, and offers her songs and work with sacred sounds within various plant medicine ceremonies. Her voice and channeled melodies, in their force, create a safe container for deep, transformational shifts. Sound and song is her first and original medicine.
As a visionary, she is a bridge between the shamanic and the modern day world, doing this through her music offerings, ceremonies, and retreats through the Ancient Path Collective.
Ayana founded the Ancient Path Collective in 2022 after clearly seeing the need for a deeper respect and honoring of the original and Indigenous traditions that many are now benefitting from. Ancient Path is the will to weave the paths of true guardians and guides, with those who are wanting to learn with integrity and respect for the traditions and teachings we seek.

Real talk - A part of me thought I had figured everything out and found myself after taking a year-long sabbatical in 2022.
Spoiler alert - I was wrong, and it hurt my ego to realize I was wrong. I didn’t find myself. In fact, I’m ~still~ finding myself and walking myself home, which is beautiful, magical, and what life is all about.
2023 was the year when I thought I would “make it” as an entrepreneur and live and breathe from a completely heart-centered and loving place. The truth is, 2023 is the year I confronted my ego (in many incredibly uncomfortable ways) and the myths, misconceptions, and stories that I’d told myself about my self-worth, how things are “supposed to” unfold, and everything in between about life after “finding myself”.
This is a super raw and unscripted solo episode and was uncomfortable for me to share because I not only dive into my shadow and the ways that I’m still practicing letting go of perfectionism but also because it’s not the typical sabbatical story you hear about.
Let me know if any of this resonates with you or sparks something within you. If it does, I hope my podcast helps you feel less alone in all of this and in navigating life’s unknowns.
I see you, I hear you, I’m with you, and I’m 100% walking alongside you, one step at a time and one day at a time.
From my heart and soul to yours,
Jenny

Join me as I reflect on 2023 and share the 30 lessons I learned at 29.
This was a fun episode to record because I referred to the list I had just written, dropped in, flowed, and wasn't afraid to embrace my imperfections.
My intention in sharing my learnings is two-fold:
1) Document these learnings for me so that one day, I can look back and be proud of all that I'm learning, re-learning, and un-learning
2) Connect with folks who resonate with my lessons, parts of my journey, or our shared humanity
Let me know if any of this resonates with you or sparks something within you. I'd love to connect, share, and learn together.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for joining me on this creative podcasting journey. I’m deeply appreciative of your support and I’m so excited to see how my podcast evolves.
With love, ease, and care,
Jenny

In this episode of Ampersand, Ashira Lavine and I discuss her incredible journey from special agent criminal investigator to intuitive healer capable of reading peoples’ physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies.
Over 1.5 hours, we chat about:
- the wounds from the end of her career as a special agent criminal investigator that catalyzed her healing journey
- how she healed from chronic illnesses and pain
- the importance of freeing ourselves from the ties that bind
- safety and how safe spaces and people promote self-healing
- client stories of deep transformation and healing
- the power and importance of daily practice
- some of Ashira’s practices
- breathwork practices (ie: conscious connected breathing, heart-brain coherence, etc)
- how Ashira leveraged her intuition in law enforcement and as a semi-pro poker player
- how anyone can practice reading people’s energies, body language, and facial expressions
This conversation reminded me of the power of simple practices to cultivate self-love, neutral observation, and a multi-layered awareness of ourselves and others. Pull out a pen and paper because this episode is full of practical nuggets that you can apply to your life immediately.
From my heart and soul to yours,
Jenny
About Ashira:
Ashira Lavine reads people for a living and has been for more than 20 years. Although she currently reads people as an intuitive healer, previous roles include reading people as a special agent criminal investigator and deputy director for the federal government, a world champion poker player, an undefeated competitive martial arts fighter, a yoga and meditation teacher, energy breath worker, trauma resolution breath worker, and massage therapist.
She reads body language, like expressions of the face, verbal and written language, and voice. Some might say she reads minds because of her ability to identify thoughts and thinking patterns, being able to predict where someone has been, the likelihood of where someone is going, and what's likely to happen, and the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Her ability to have both broad and specific insight into the mind and body as well as knowledge of transformational practices allows her to support people, making profound change and their lives, bodies, and health.

In this episode of Ampersand featuring couple and therapists Lezah Pope and Dario Sarmiento, we dive into the intersection of therapy, love, and bringing our full selves into our connections.
Over 1.5 hours, we chat about:
Being a therapist in this age of growing mental health awareness
The importance of diversity in the therapist community
Dating someone from a different socioeconomic, racial, and cultural background
What it means to "do the work"
Green flags they look for early on in a romantic connection
The end of the honeymoon period
How conflict in relationships can be healthy
Their hopes for love in old age
This conversation felt like a warm hug and had me reevaluate some of the stories I’d been telling myself about romantic connections and how it would look and feel to be in a healthy and loving one. I can’t wait to hear how it impacts you.
From my heart and soul to yours,
