On the night of May 13, 2008, 19-year-old Brandon Swanson was driving home from a party after finishing his first year of college. Just after midnight, he called his parents. He’d driven into a ditch, he said. He wasn’t hurt—just frustrated, and he needed a ride. What followed was a 47-minute phone call—nearly an hour of confusion and missed turns. Brandon’s parents tried desperately to find him in the dark, rural backroads of southwestern Minnesota, but then the call went silent, and Brandon Swanson hasn’t been seen since.Over the years, many theories have emerged about what happened to Brandon, but none have led to the teenager who was just trying to get home.If you have any information about the disappearance of Brandon Swanson, please contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 507-694-1664 or the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension at 877-996-6222. this case sounds similar to Arkansas's Rebecca Gould case, and in a way the Holly Bobo case. a lack of imagination in the true crime community is so annoying. like, there were neighbors; were any of them bad people? how secure was that abandoned house, with no utilities, kept? could anyone have been inside the house that did not belong there? why not burn her belongings while "destroying" evidence"?

I live about 30 miles from circle mt and this part of the country has nothing but farm fields and open land. you can see for hundreds of miles it seems like. It doesn't make sense where she went or how she disappeared because of this reason. Regardless it's a sad heartbreaking story!

have the others in the homeschooling group ever spoken about the case or the incident with the four year old?

gross to hear the host normalizing child neglect in the name of "the '80's", while claiming not wanting to make light of it. I was raised by neglectful parents in that era but they did not leave me alone at age four. it was not as widespread a practice then and was not considered okay. parents do not generally neglect their kids "for survival" either, but because they have an agenda that caring for children interferes with. the comparison with the mom charged during the job interview is unwarr

James sounds like someone having difficulty adjusting to psychiatric medication. the shaky voice, the 'lack of feelings and emotions', the perception that something is wrong with his brain, the uncharacteristic behaviors. also there may be very good reasons for the mom being "uninvolved", and perhaps for the father and others to protect her privacy.

they were not "treating her like an adult" ffs. when someone is "treated like an adult" it often has the connotation of according some respect, perceiving one as an equal, etc. what is taking place here is exploitation via "adultification" of a child. she wad being groomed, used, and exploited. have the courage to say it. and take some of the blame off the fourteen year old.

was it really common practice to leave four year olds alone in the '80's? Neither myself nor my most neglected friends were left alone at that age regardless of whatever blatantly neglectful or "normal for the 80's" parenting practices we were subjected to. why the Podcaster would even try to make this a point is odd. It seems as if she is going to great lengths to identify with this particular father on this one point. And just because he is a combat vet is no reason to lionize him. this might in fact mean he is more dangerous as a father and a husband or partner.

the father was violent with the mother while she was pregnant. He threatened to kill her. He left three little kids, under the age of five years old, all alone for three hours. So I am not really having this image management of him as some poor loving papa, wronged by police and in jail for unjust reasons, who is being denied the opportunity to look for his son -- which is how the podcasters begin this episode portraying him as.

I'm from Kingman. My only comment is, the Hualapais are pronounced Walla-pie, not who-a-la-pie

I really think the guy that groomed her online was narcissistic and abusive. I think he probably love-bombed her at the beginning which would make sense that she started doing things that were out of character for her. And then started making her feel like she needed to prove her love. So from that perspective, the way she got out of the yard makes it seem less like her being coached and more like desperation. And if he is manipulative and controlling, (which I think he obviously is) he could have convinced her that if she goes back to her family, they'll separate them.

Wait why did u not mention any of the stuff Candiss said about her day, prior to summer’s disappearance? The whole thing about the dry drowning and the milk jug and the vape pens and twisted tea and the ex-friend’s teenage son? I don’t buy into that stuff but u can’t just vaguely refer to conspiracy theories and not mention what they are.

i gotta call bs on the investigation of this case.. no detective ever who heard the highly questionable story of an intelligent, educated man choosing to irrationally dive, fully clothed, into the cold, notoriously shark infested waters of the sf bay in the middle of the night unprovoked, would merely accept this acct of circumstances on its face.. in any other instance, anywhere, at any time, if this statement were offered to an investigating officer, the first thing that would occur would be, the subject audacious enough to attempt to give that acct would b arrested, charged, and could count themselves extremely lucky if they were even afforded any semblance of a fair trial.. who is this "neighbor"? and why did he murder that poor man?

Gambling debts? It is more likely that Yong is running from slavers/human traffickers/pimps, and that they were somehow able to reach her from South Korea. She may owe them money, a ridiculously huge amount, that she cannot pay. The concept of human trafficking conveniently did not exist in our laws back then so there would be NO protection for someone like Yong, in the situation I theorize she could have been in. Our police would have laughed in her face and treated her like a criminal and a subhuman piece of garbage. If her presence endangered her older daughter, it would be best to cut that connection forever.

wow, you seem to be crying racism while breaking everything down by race, hmmm... are you also trying to say there are no all black communities that speak only, English, in the home? somehow you are trying to say that's wrong......Americans are so intolerant, so, I guess you're right.......jeez, don't have a personal agenda, just tell the story. that will go a lot further for you

One of my favorite shows rn! Very informative and brings attention to many cases that aren't being talked about or covered.

"stranger danger" may be blown out of proportion yet it is perfectly justified and should not be mocked or ridiculed. I mean, ffs, they never found johnny or Eugene. although, people should be equally terrified of "law enforcement gaslighting, failure to protect, collusion, and obstructionism" when it comes to missing persons especially missing children.

You imply a lot in your introduction. Brian is doing the smart thing. The whole country is out for his blood, and none of us know the facts. Nobody with any brains would talk to the police without an attorney present. Brian is innocent until proven guilty. It is highly irresponsible of you to be putting out episodes about this case because you DON'T KNOW THE FACTS.

the only thing about this episode - you should have researched what an alternative school is. it's not a bad thing and truly helps some kids. it's not just "where the pregnant people go" or for hippies.
