This week we visited the cinema to see the highly-anticipated "Small Things Like These". Based on the novella by Claire Keegan, it tells the story of Bill Furlong, a coal man in New Ross, Wexford, "As he does the rounds, he feels the past rising up to meet him - and encounters the complicit silences of a small community controlled by the Church. Claire Keegan’s tender tale of hope and quiet heroism is both a celebration of compassion and a stern rebuke of the sins committed in the name of religion."Hear our chat before we go in, based on having read the book previously and how we felt immediately after coming out. There are some minor spoilers, so be mindful of this.At the end of the episode, we also include a list of recommended readings on the topic (and similar issues), which Aoife Cassidy compiled for us when we spoke to her in season 1. - - -Thanks to Helen Becerra for the artwork and Mark Neville for the mixing.Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!):https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/make-it-work License code: PLGGIGEZMJI9NR3G and https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/funky-junkLicense code: BZFZTXSSQI4PW6NW ---Follow us on Instagram and TikTok: @another.chapter.podcastVisit our website www.anotherchapterpodcast.ie Hosted on Acast.
