UK Athletics has officially teamed up with the London Marathon and Great Run Company to create a new major events company, and deliver world class athletics events. UKA CEO Jack Buckner has told us it'll help fix some of the financial issues of the organisation. 'Athletic Ventures' will deliver the London Diamond League meeting every year, the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham and lead the bid for the World Athletics Championships returning to the UK in 2029. It's dubbed the biggest global networking event in sport and it's in right here in the UK in Birmingham - the home of the last, and what could be the very last, Commonwealth Games in 2022. The week-long Sport Accord World Sport and Business Summit is supported by the International Olympic Committee and has been brought here by Joel Lavery, the West Midlands Growth Company’s major sporting events' strategic lead. One of the most successful Olympic and Paralympic sports in this country is changing its name to better reflect what the organisation does. British Swimming is now Aquatics GB, with the five disciplines of swimming, diving, para-swimming, artistic swimming and water polo. Plans have been revealed to start the process of trying to bring the Tour de France back, as well as the World Athletics Championships, to this country. The announcement of 70 global events in 32 sports inc 18 World Championships was made at the London Stadium in Stratford by UK Sport - the Government agency responsible for funding elite sport, as well as leading the planning for Major Events.
