Williams is a city in northern Arizona on The Mother Road, Historic Route-66. It sits at about 6,800 feet in elevation, covers about 44 square miles and has a population of over 3,200. It's best known as the "Gateway To The Grand Canyon" National Park via the Grand Canyon Railway. Historic Route 66 in Williams has Americana-style shops and restaurants dating back to the early 1900s. In this edition of the Arizona Podcast we spotlight being the "Gateway To The Grand Canyon", the city of Williams and another "Moment with the Mayor" as we share time with the honorable John W Moore, mayor of Williams Arizona. This is one small town that has way too much to do and see in just one day. From the Grand Canyon, the Grand Canyon railway and taking the kids to see sights like Bearizona. We learn the history of the great town and the people that keep it going.
The City of Kingman is a city along Route 66, in northwestern Arizona. Elevation of 3,333 and a populations of 30,000. The historic Mother road and the role of Kingman is most certainly part of American history and is celebrated at the Route 66 Museum set inside the Powerhouse Visitors Center. Murals, Dioramas and a library at the Mohave Museum of History and Arts traces local history. Locomotive Park, featuring old Locomotive 3759 a 1928 steam engine, and the Kingman Railroad Museum documents the city's past as a 20th-century railway hub.  I had an awesome discussion with Josh Noble, tourism services manager for the City of Kingman. He is a walking-talking database about the City of Kingman Arizona! Normally I would give my input of the Cities I visit and some notable must see's... This show.... I just let Josh run loose as he is so much more knowledgable than I about this than I will ever be... Enjoy everything and be sure to tell any and all of the locations you visit that you heard about it on Arizona Podcast!
Winslow Arizona - The City of Winslow AZ is a small town with big adventures that incorporated by in 1900. Just about 100 miles west of the New Mexico border on Interstate 40. Sits at just under 5,000 ft in elevation and covers just about 13 square miles in area. Winslow is home to a multitude of attractions including a stop on the mother road! Winslow Topics: "Standing On The Corner Park" made famous by the band the eagles in 1972 with their hit song “Take It Easy”. The park was created by the city back in 1999 to add to the magic of the city of Winslow. Its estimated that over 100,000 people visit this site. The hotel La Posada is a must to see and a must stay if you’re in the area built back in the 1920’s its iconic and after its renovation, has become one of the top hotels in the southwest. Set in a restored railroad hotel built by the Santa Fe Railway, this beautiful southwestern-style hotel lies next to the Winslow Amtrak station. McHood park and Clear Creek are a must as well. If you stay close to town and want a nice cold one, can I suggest a stop in the relic-road brewing company? Fried Pickles are on the menu. If you’re not going to make a stop at the majestic Painted Desert and Petrified Forest east of Winslow I would encourage you to drive just north of Winslow to the little painted desert park. The Meteor Crater, IS the best preserved meteor crater site on earth. Don’t forget to take the old way to get there by stopping by Meteor City, it has its very own exit off I-40 at exit 239 from the east or west and is home to the now closed but roadside photo worthy, Meteor City Trading post. Movie trivia, this site was Used in the movie Starman back in 84’ when Starman meets Mark Sherman from SETI.  A Moment With The Mayor: Roberta "Birdie" Cano | Very excited to share Moment with the mayor on the Arizona Podcast. In this edition of the #ArizonaPodcast we talk with the CEO of Stuckey's Corporation, Stephanie Stuckey. We talk about her past, present and the future of Stuckey's! More fun on the great American road trip and the celebration of the Mother Road, Route 66. Stephanie Stuckey is the Chair of Stuckey’s, the roadside oasis famous for its pecan log rolls. The company was founded by Stephanie’s grandfather, W.S. Stuckey, Sr., as a pecan stand in Eastman, GA in 1937 and grew to over 350 stores across the country. The company was sold in 1964 but is now back in family hands and making a comeback. Stephanie took over the company in November of 2019 and, under her leadership, Stuckey’s has purchased a pecan-shelling and candy-manufacturing facility in Wrens, GA, revamped its distribution operations based in Eastman, GA, acquired a healthy pecan-snack company, rebranded its products and website, added four new franchised stores, expanded its B2B retail customer base, and increased online sales 550% — all while weathering the COVID-19 pandemic. Stephanie received both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Georgia. She has worked as a trial lawyer, was elected to seven terms as a state representative, ran an environmental nonprofit law firm that settled the largest Clean Water Act case in Georgia history, served as Director of Sustainability and Resilience for the City of Atlanta, and taught as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Georgia School of Law. Stephanie’s achievements include being named one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine, as well as graduating from Leadership Atlanta. Jim Hinckley’s America

2022-11-0701:01:30

In this edition of the #ArizonaPodcast we talk with author and podcaster Jim Hinckley, a man that, if not already labeled.. should be considered one of the ultimate authorities on the Mother Road… Route66. We’ll learn more about Jim Hinckley’s America, his written, audio and video adventures and take a peek at what’s in the future. If you haven’t picked up on it over the past podcast’s… I cant wait for the Route 66 Centennial in 26’. Mary and I are in the beginning stages of securing location along the mother road here in AZ for live podcasts as well as recording interviews with the experts for shows for the future so far, Winslow, Williams and Kingman have graciously agreed to host us for these podcasts and we seriously cant wait. If you googled my guest Jim Hinckley it would tell you everything… well almost.. Jim Hinckley is an internationally acclaimed author, lecturer, historian, tour guide, and tour development consultant with three primary areas of expertise; Route 66, the American southwest and the American automobile industry between 1885 and 1980. Trust me, the list of other titles and area’s of expertise can go on. I have to tell you, as a big route66 buff, talking to Jim today, is equivalent to Lil Charlie Bucket walking into Bill’s Candy Shop in search of the golden ticket.
