Williams is a city in northern Arizona on The Mother Road, Historic Route-66. It sits at about 6,800 feet in elevation, covers about 44 square miles and has a population of over 3,200. It's best known as the "Gateway To The Grand Canyon" National Park via the Grand Canyon Railway. Historic Route 66 in Williams has Americana-style shops and restaurants dating back to the early 1900s. In this edition of the Arizona Podcast we spotlight being the "Gateway To The Grand Canyon", the city of Williams and another "Moment with the Mayor" as we share time with the honorable John W Moore, mayor of Williams Arizona. This is one small town that has way too much to do and see in just one day. From the Grand Canyon, the Grand Canyon railway and taking the kids to see sights like Bearizona. We learn the history of the great town and the people that keep it going.
The City of Kingman is a city along Route 66, in northwestern Arizona. Elevation of 3,333 and a populations of 30,000. The historic Mother road and the role of Kingman is most certainly part of American history and is celebrated at the Route 66 Museum set inside the Powerhouse Visitors Center. Murals, Dioramas and a library at the Mohave Museum of History and Arts traces local history. Locomotive Park, featuring old Locomotive 3759 a 1928 steam engine, and the Kingman Railroad Museum documents the city's past as a 20th-century railway hub.  I had an awesome discussion with Josh Noble, tourism services manager for the City of Kingman. He is a walking-talking database about the City of Kingman Arizona! Normally I would give my input of the Cities I visit and some notable must see's... This show.... I just let Josh run loose as he is so much more knowledgable than I about this than I will ever be... Enjoy everything and be sure to tell any and all of the locations you visit that you heard about it on Arizona Podcast!
Winslow Arizona - The City of Winslow AZ is a small town with big adventures that incorporated by in 1900. Just about 100 miles west of the New Mexico border on Interstate 40. Sits at just under 5,000 ft in elevation and covers just about 13 square miles in area. Winslow is home to a multitude of attractions including a stop on the mother road! Winslow Topics: "Standing On The Corner Park" made famous by the band the eagles in 1972 with their hit song “Take It Easy”. The park was created by the city back in 1999 to add to the magic of the city of Winslow. Its estimated that over 100,000 people visit this site. The hotel La Posada is a must to see and a must stay if you’re in the area built back in the 1920’s its iconic and after its renovation, has become one of the top hotels in the southwest. Set in a restored railroad hotel built by the Santa Fe Railway, this beautiful southwestern-style hotel lies next to the Winslow Amtrak station. McHood park and Clear Creek are a must as well. If you stay close to town and want a nice cold one, can I suggest a stop in the relic-road brewing company? Fried Pickles are on the menu. If you’re not going to make a stop at the majestic Painted Desert and Petrified Forest east of Winslow I would encourage you to drive just north of Winslow to the little painted desert park. The Meteor Crater, IS the best preserved meteor crater site on earth. Don’t forget to take the old way to get there by stopping by Meteor City, it has its very own exit off I-40 at exit 239 from the east or west and is home to the now closed but roadside photo worthy, Meteor City Trading post. Movie trivia, this site was Used in the movie Starman back in 84’ when Starman meets Mark Sherman from SETI.  A Moment With The Mayor: Roberta "Birdie" Cano | Very excited to share Moment with the mayor on the Arizona Podcast. Chris and Mary of Arizona Podcast are excited to discuss their new new programs to their Podcast; "Arizona Route 66: The Podcast", dedicated to just that; ARIZONA ROUTE 66. In addition to the podcast, they have created an online calendar; "Arizona Route 66: The Calendar" supporting the Podcast to help illustrate the fun and amazing events on Route 66 in the state of Arizona. It has taken a lot of thought, time and creativity on their part and is an ongoing project with a laundry list of ideas that will be added. What to include? What NOT to include? How to obtain the information about ALL the events on Arizona Route 66 that would entice those on a Mother Road-Road Trip to stop and most importantly, support the many small town businesses on the Main Street Of America.  Arizona Route 66, is a 385.2 mile journey through time! “…There is a spirit, a feeling that resides along this highway. The spirit of Route 66 lives in the people and their stories, the views and buildings, and travelers’ perceptions of the highway. Today’s travelers can still experience a remarkable journey traveling through time on Route 66.”
Coming in November 2024 are two new projects focussed on The Main Street Of America; Arizona Route 66. They are - "Arizona Route 66: The Podcast" AND "Arizona Route 66: The Calendar". The Arizona Route 66 Events Calendar is broken down to make it easier for those seeking specific events where you can see everything or by a Category. The ongoing events not listed on the Event Calendar include some fun activities like walking tours, ghost towns, must see and maybe not so much go see Arizona locations and really oddities along the mother Road. For those that are planning their Route 66 Centennial Road Trip in 2026? We have some events already being planned and promoted. These events will then be moved to the main calendar as we get closer. We invited Google's AI hosts to visit our new website and give their point of view of its contents and WOW, were we surprised! So much so, we wanted to share as a sneak peek as to what is coming in November... Enjoy!

If you haven’t picked up on it over the past podcast’s… I cant wait for the Route 66 Centennial in 26’.
