I’m always asking questions. The fun begins when you start researching for answers. Such as… Are we asking for too much from God? Have we become co-dependent on what we think is truth and faith? Plus…we’ll switch sides on the question. What if it’s not about receiving from a higher power and creator? I’m Arroe… I am a daily writer. A silent wolf. I stand on the sidelines and do nothing but watch, listen study then activate. I call it The Daily Mess. A chronological walk through an everyday world. Yes, it’s my morning writing. As a receiver of thoughts and ideas, we as people tend to throw it to the side and deal with it later. When a subject arrives, I dig in. It’s still keeping a journal! Only the sex-and-drug-fueled, drop-out culture of hippie-era southern California, with its occult dabblings and nothing-is-forbidden philosophy, could have produced the Manson murders. The barren landscape of Nebraska was not just the historical setting for the 1950s killing spree of the young outlaw-lovers Charlie Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate, but the outward projection of their harsh, empty lives. America’s dean of true crime Harold Schecter has penned a definitive study of crime that reflects the typical (or stereotypical) traits associated with the state where it took place. Rather than rehash the details of such overly familiar horrors, in 50 STATES OF MURDER: An Atlas of American Crime (September 16, 2025; $19.99 paperback) Schecter reveals lesser known, darkly fascinating cases that, taken together, form a unique criminal history of the United States.Filled with hundreds of darkly fascinating tales of murderous mayhem, 50 STATES OF MURDER is a chilling work of storytelling and an authoritative survey of the United States’ homicidal history. Schechter explores each state’s most grizzly, gruesome, and notorious murders that have passed into regional lore, including:The 1840 murder of New Jersey banker Abraham Suydam that inspired Edgar Allan Poe’s horror classic “The Tell-Tale Heart.”The 1912 “Villisca Axe Murders” that claimed the lives of eight victims, including all six members of a single family, in a small town in Iowa. The “Inwood Park Horror” of 1937, when the mutilated corpse of a twenty-eight-year-old woman was found in a Cincinnati dance hall.Robert Hansen’s ten-year reign of terror in Alaska from 1973-1983, where he hunted and slayed at least seventeen women, ranging in age from sixteen to forty-one.The brutal 1953 abduction-murder of six-year-old Bobby Greenlease Jr., son of a multimillionaire car dealer, in Kansas City, Missouri.Andrew Cunanan’s 1997 killing, not of Gianni Versace in Miami, but of two intimate friends in Minnesota three months before his assassination of the fashion icon.Presented in a photo-filled, atlas-like format, 50 STATES OF MURDER is a bloodcurdling journey into the dark heart of American murder that will please any true crime obsessive.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

In RUMORS OF MY DEMISE: A Memoir (Gallery Books hardcover; October 7, 2025), Evan Dando sets the record straight on everything the media got wrong, divulges stories never-before-told, and shares a treasure trove of personal photos never-before-seen. The publication coincides with the October 24th release of Love Chant, the Lemonheads first original album in nearly two decades, with a U.S. tour beginning on November 11th. After Kurt Cobain's passing in 1994, everyone expected Evan Dando to be next. The Lemonheads front man, songwriter and actor started in the '80s hardcore scene and went on to become a '90s icon. Think of Evan Dando, and you think of heroin chic, grunge, and celebrity burnout. Perhaps known as much for his partying and boyish good looks, after two gold records and the kind of fame that you just can't enjoy anymore, the Lemonheads cooled off and life went on.Dando grew up in Boston, the son of a lawyer and a model, and attended the prestigious Commonwealth School. Fame was never what motivated him but the lure of the wild life proved trickier to refuse. From sneaking into concerts as a child, to sleeping on floors in the punk rock days, to crashing at Johnny Depp's place in Hollywood, he was right there in the thick of it. So much so, that social media once reported his death. Now, very much alive and enjoying a life in South America when he's not on the road, Evan Dando tells his own story. RUMORS OF MY DEMISE reminds readers what was so great about the pre-internet '90s: the innocence, the access, and the anonymity. Reclaiming the purity and exuberance of his early days and encapsulating the spirit of the era, this candid autobiography presents a portrait of an artist who lives wholly for his music, and one that makes no apologies for doing so.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
During the early hours of Christmas morning, chief medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta receives a chilling call. The Phantom Slasher has struck again. The serial killer has terrorized Northern Virginia for months. His pattern is to stalk with a sophisticated technology that enables him to invade his victims' homes and watch their every move. They wake up to a ghost-like hologram before being murdered in their beds. Scarpetta is summoned to Mercy Island, the site of a notorious psychiatric hospital where two people have been brutalized, one of them from Scarpetta’s past. Mayfield is a small town in Kentucky with a population of only 10,000. It's the type of place where gossip spreads like weeds, where the residents know something about everyone. Rumors and opinions about who killed the beloved fire chief's daughter, 18-year-old Jessica Currin, run the gamut-as do theories about the motive behind her grisly death. But as the Lava team digs in to learn more, it's as if the entire town withdraws and goes dark. There's an aura of fear and suspicion. But of what? Thanks for being part of the conversation… Welcome to Forest Stories. A series of short-winded adventures within a collection of skyscraping trees stuck feet first in Georgia Clay right here in Carolina. It’s been a huge part of my daily writing journey for over 33 years. I’m the Poet In The Forest. A children’s series written and recorded in the 1990s. It’s grown into multiple podcasts that reach around the world. None of it would be possible without this forest in South Charlotte, NC. At the base of Heartbreak Hill sits a sign that reads Rainbow Forest. It’s time you meet what’s inspired several generations. Long before the paved paths decorated with colorful homes colonized around this beautiful lake, slow moving streams, flatland swamps and array of natural animals, there were families and business owners who are said to have raced into this area for the beauty of the land, wild roses, migratory birds and grapevines. Those before me either forgot to write about it or its buried somewhere inside a family tree. In THE HAT DIARIES: Escape From the Adventure, Nadine Haruni culminates her action-packed trilogy with a story reflecting the power of friendship and the interconnectedness of family across generations. Book three opens with Ryan and Shadow in Aachen, Germany, on October 13, 1944. Despite repeated warnings from Merlo, Ryan made the terrible mistake of overstaying the 60-minute timeframe allotted to complete each Adventure. Right after Violet stepped through the Portal to return home, he dropped his diary, a precious written record of all his Adventures. He thought he’d have enough time to grab it before the countdown timer shrieked. Instead, as he picked up his diary, Ryan watched in horror as the massive red Portal door shut, leaving him stranded amidst the turmoil and danger of battle during World War II. THE HAT DIARIES: Escape From the Adventure is told from the perspective of three different narrators: Ryan, Merlo, and Violet. As the tension mounts, the story reveals a secret Merlo has been carrying for most of his adult life, one that is weighed down by guilt. As Sergeant Hank and Ryan set out on a journey fraught with danger, navigating through war-torn landscapes, Escape From the Adventure raises intriguing questions: Is it possible to prevent a tragic event from happening again? And if the course of history can be altered, at what cost? Through it all, readers will continue to root for Ryan Rigbee, a relatable and remarkable teen. While THE HAT DIARIES: Escape From the Adventure marks the end of the trilogy, Ryan and his magical Adventures will live on.
