Description

Darius and Sebastian riff, tell dad jokes and might get heavy every now and then?
50 Episodes
Reverse
Recorded live in fan's secret hideaway in remotest Maine (well, Darius' part anyway), our heroes try to recap four lost months since we last recorded while trying not to collapse into giggles over Kevin McCarthy's repeated public humiliations. Good thing not much happened since August of 2022.
We're back! Should we stop announcing that every time we go more than a couple weeks between episodes? What, and deprive our fan of the joyful news of our return? As usual, in our absence a ton of crazy stuff happened, so we catch up on the Kansas election, the Alex Jones trialtime oopsy-daisy, the DOJ progress against our home grown coup plotters, and more!
We try to catch up with the events of the past two weeks, in vain. We don't even mention the Jan 6 committee until :50 minutes in or so! But we try - talking SCROTUS v SCOTUS, imposter syndrome, and our increasingly tendency to use foul language.
WE ARE BACK! With a valiant, if doomed effort to catch up on the last five months with lame dad jokes and general corniness. Maybe a little insight, but mostly dad jokes.
A mid workday convo about whether we are feeling optimistic about 2022 or we are drowning in hopeless despair...

We got the band back together for the first time in 2022, discuss the etiquette of wishing someone Happy New Year, and sort through the various hopes and wishes that we cling to in this perilous pre-midterm era...
Part 2 of the marathon recording sesh - we were happy to be recording again! Oh, and we were so excited we didn't address the swirling rumors that the hiatus was actually caused by a falling out between Darius & Seb. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth.  (edit: I forgot to add the episode number at the beginning of the title because, as Darius points out, I've recently suffered trauma from this specific number)

...and we are BACK! Apologies for the longer-than-expected hiatus, life is complicated and all that. But the important thing is Darius & Seb have returned with their inimitable stylings on politics and current events and just general awesomeness. You are welcome.
Refreshed from a late afternoon nap, our intrepid middle-aged duo take on current events with a renewed vigor and purpose! We talk select committee, Olympics, various unfairnesses and whether we remain optimistic or think democracy is in its end game. (Spoiler, we're hopeless optimists) https://anchor.fm/sebastian-hassinger/message
We're back after an unintended hiatus to reveal the new name of the patriarchy, BDE! In its bad space billionaire form and some of its good forms such as the Speaker of the House's jiujitsu moves unleashed on the GOP. We also talk about the arrest of Barrack (not the one the MAGA world wanted) and the usual deftly woven display of deep intelligence, effortless breezy wit and, of course, as always, our abiding humility in all things.

TBH I can't remember everything we talked about here - we recorded it at the end of May but there was a problem with the recording that I was able to sort of recover from... enjoy? We did I know that.

Loads of title ideas including many other Nikole Hannah-Jones related ones besides this one. I think Darius also may have suggested a name for the podcast, Spicy Jambalaya of Knowledge or something very Darius-like. We discuss what has transpired since last episode and make each other laugh so that we don't break down and cry, the usual.
How, fan may ask themselves, was this the title when Darius served up "In the Mosaic of the Universe the Threads all Tie Together" in the last seconds of the show, seeming to deliver, as is his wont, precisely the kind phrase that serves beautifully as an episode title. The answer, fan, is just a perverse sense of humor that borders on pettiness from time to time.
Debate club: resolved, the world is going to hell in a handbasket and America's democracy is doomed. Representing the affirmative, reluctantly, is Sebastian who's just had a long month is all. Opposing: the always sunny Mr. Brown who, spoiler alert, brings Sebastian around. All ends well.

Alternate title "so you're saying there's a chance," but take a listen, see what you think. We bid the lost episodes adieu and fall back on zoom recordings until a better technology can be procured.
We reconvene, for our 3rd attempt to record a 36th episode after run-ins with cursed audio tools, to discuss the maelstrom of US politics and whether it's all a very very bad sign or an optimistic sign for social change...
Is that what you meant by a remix, Darius? We catch up after another 2 week lull, we're going to try to be more timely in the future, we promise. In this catchup we try and fail to understand the mental models of White supremacists and whatevers. We try, but we fail.
Even talking about heavy subjects like the trial of the murderer of George Floyd we manage to make each other laugh, it is amazing, and probably explains a lot about why we have stuck with one another nigh on these 15 plus years. Friends are cool. But yeah we talk trial verdict, racism, GOP evilness, stupidity, herd mentality, externalities, Jack Handey and Douglas Adams. Not in that order.

We whine about how tough it is to be deep voiced men with busy jobs totally unaffected by the pandemic - no, we're too sensitive for that, silly! Mostly we catch up on the ugly, bizarre, and terrifying landscape that is contemporary US politics.
We give you words! At long last! An unexpected hiatus! But today, Deb Haaland, insane jury of your peers, do Republicans have human emotions, and the Dakota Territory vs. DC. You are welcome.
