Welcome to a special Easter edition of Ask NT Wright Anything, where we dig into the historical and theological foundations of the resurrection of Jesus. New Testament scholar Mike Bird joins Tom Wright to raise some tough questions - like why, historically speaking, resurrection is such a radical claim, and whether it can be anything more than a statement of faith.
Tom responds by exploring how early Christians understood the resurrection not as a metaphor, but as the bodily vindication of Jesus as Messiah. He highlights the Jewish context, the use of Scripture like 2 Samuel 7, and how this shaped the Church’s understanding of Jesus’ identity, God’s love, and victory over death.
This is part one of a two-part Easter conversation. In the second half - free for now but shortly available exclusively to subscribers of Ask NT Wright Anything - Tom continues his seminar with Mike and explores the implications of the resurrection for the Church today and Christian mission.

Are near-death experiences real? Do they give us a glimpse of the afterlife, or should we approach them with caution? What does it mean to live faithfully as a Christian? And who really has the authority to forgive sin— the individual believer, the priest or the church?
In this episode of Ask NT Wright Anything, NT Wright and Mike Bird explore these listener questions, tackling the theology of near-death experiences and whether these experiences point to an afterlife, discussing the calling of all of us in our everyday Christian lives and fields of work, and the power and limits of forgiveness in the church.

In this episode of Ask NT Wright Anything, Tom and Mike dive into two foundational topics: the resurrection and the role of apostles in the early church. What did first-century Jews believe about resurrection? Tom responds to William Lane Craig’s argument that individual resurrections weren’t expected before the End Times. He unpacks how Jesus’ resurrection differs from all others, marking the beginning of God’s new creation.
What makes someone an 'Apostle'? The discussion explores Paul’s apostleship, the fluid roles of teachers, prophets, and elders, and the importance of apostolic succession in church leadership.
🎧 If you’ve ever wondered about the resurrection, Paul’s authority, or how church leadership was established, grab your headphones and go ahead and press play.

🎧 If you've ever questioned what happens after death or why Jesus' genealogy matters, this episode is packed with insights to deepen your faith.

l love this podcast. I could listen to NT Wright talk about anything. He has a lovely voice. He should do an audio book of prayers.
I would have to say a very poor grey explanation of if there is hell or not ,come on NT step up and be clear, the neither hot or cold passage in the bible comes to mind with this effort I am very sorry to say.

Tom hits it out of the park on this one! His explanation of Luther's motivations in his understanding of Galatians is so helpful.
NT Wright's commentary on race was spot on. The church has work to do, if we want to partner with Christ's vision for us.
I'm a HUGE fan of the show and Tom Wright. When I say that this particular episode "blessed my soul", consider it to be an understatement. I truly admire and am grateful for how Mr. Wright expresses this glorious gospel. it reminds me of my parents who were both members of the clergy. you all possess this "je ne sais quoi" and speak in such a compelling tone to draw listeners to Christ. Thank you all for what you do. [Illinois, USA]
