are you yeah Joe is a consumer who transformed into a CPA and what he does today is help small business owners really start off with the solid foundation but I'm gonna stop there gonna ask Joe Joe would you share with us how you created this transformation from entrepreneur to CPA now helping small business owners I would love to Terry you know I don't believe that entrepreneurism made I mean I think you can learn business skills and start a business and be successful but some of us myself included are worn this way I used to think I had some kind of virus because I was doing all kinds of crazy thanks it started when I was ten years old that's as far back as I can when I started actually intentionally stop trying to make money for myself and it was pretty interesting because what I did was I set up a casino in my drive ten years all it was awesome it was awesome one of my friends and me and I made like three dollars and fifty five cents and that was a lot of money seven and from that moment on getting the job like my %HESITATION everyone in my family it just wasn't an option never answered my mom and when I was seventeen my father thinking that you know all these kids on the wrong track %HESITATION wasn't hanging out right around and he was right he he we were at a family barbecue and he pointed to one of the guys who sit back as she yes and this is what the what the heck is a seat yeah Mr will they start businesses business owners go to the vice presidents of companies and from that moment this is what I'm going to be a CPA and I never thought twice about I became a CNA not because I wanted to be an actor I want to learn about this one person that is really wonderful more details about how you felt this is true that well since twenty five years you know I felt actually like a fish out of water to be honest as an entrepreneur in the CPA soon it was like confining I was in a in a cubicle and was confined may it was more confined for the people that I was working because they expected an accountant that was just going to you know fill out the forms and and help them reconcile the bank accounts and I okay I'm sorry okay per cluster yes exactly I I I felt like a and I wasn't going to be what she saw always dog down with my clients and then I would ask them like what exactly are you trying to tell you you know this isn't working you know what we thank you how are you marketing your product what probably you saw they expect those questions from I don't but that was the entrepreneurial side we so about ten years ago I came across a book called the science of getting rich and that changed my whole perspective about business and life what Wallace Wallace shared well is that there is enough resources on the planet so that everyone can be rich and all they had to do was change from thinking about the problems thinking about the solution I think our own will need to hear that again the difference the true way to success is to thank success not competition who's gonna put me out of this let me give you now let me put out a better price you're not there that's not what makes people successful and from there I picked up the Polly hill's first war of success and he went into it from another standpoint he dug deeper into what you know if you don't know who to call in help was he interviewed thousand people over over twenty five years he had argued the most famous successful people of art and he broke it down to seventeen different principles and none of them had to do with creating a business plan right now all of them do it creating a business plan but because I know you're going to share yes then actually he does have a business plan and this is what I what I teach you what's called a definite chief fans and all it is three paragraph statement that describes each what you gonna do now how are you gonna do and what the result is well it's it's powerful and it works well there is a book draw how many people have you worked with that have succeeded using your formulas hundreds but you know to be honest with I I don't know because just like my father planted the seed in my head when I was seventeen and I resented him for twenty five years this is what exactly would you do to me why did you not you know who tricked me into becoming out so I'll look at it as I'm just planted seeds now those students might not take root for years you know I look at it like damn bro you know damn movie could be watering is I think it takes five year before even sprouts and then all of a sudden it's fifteen all so I don't I don't really measure success in in terms of how many people became millionaires you know based on what I've done I'm sure if I just hope somebody a tiny bit if I just open the door for them sorry to be open minded you know to make them to help them look at what they're doing and they're not getting the right results and maybe they need to change Stockton if I can do that maybe that's a success can you share your %HESITATION your favorite client with ensuring their name can you share a story of how you were able to turn the business around my favorite client would be may really mopar %HESITATION yeah because I have the story you know and if you look at the quality inn no this is a book he wrote called out winning the job oh my god what is that amazing and I read that book only because he tells my story wow the guy was the godfather of success and if you look at his life he failed miserably time and time again until one day he woke up he said maybe they should apply these principles a cell and that's what I've been doing this for ten years I've completely turned my business around not just financially you know financial success in the war like I said everybody should be wretch we all can be rich you're rich isn't only measured in terms of dollars and when I wake up today I love what I'm doing I I I believe I am helping change lives one mmhm when you folks that this book outwitting the devil what was the last locally in hill's book and it was a hidden manuscript for many many years up until fairly recently and it %HESITATION Boeing has wife actually asked him not to publish it after she read it she was very very scared of what was in the box and then it got the police foundation had it and it wasn't until certain people passed away that they felt that it was time to finally published book and the reason why is because this book has Hey it's great for the practical meant yeah right the business mistake because you are literally having a dialogue with yourself in a very deep way and he called the other party the devil so he was having a dialogue with the devil who is

A. P. I call it nurture appreciation hot nurture appreciation and cost so as we wait I would love to get your perspective on waiting as it is it what is the difference between waiting and procrastinate think of how you just presented nap okay what that reminds me of is at Christmas is Sam thing in the process of being formed it is waiting to become a butterfly it is waiting to be involved in fly at its greatest beauty and its greatest heights you say it is procrastinating is to deny the absolute transformation that's taking place in the process of being still yes dramatically different it is dramatically different stinging all right so to me waiting can be a process of just keeping busy doing nothing waiting can also be a time in which you're in reflection in which you're in preparation in which you're doing all the back room things that need to be done so when it's time you can fly out the door and all the preparation has been finished it's really a choice you're now I'm do you need this comes down to are we surviving this journey all right we surviving a part of this journey are we actually living in the process of it yet yes and I've done so much TV and radio in the past few weeks with this whole pandemic this going on in the United States and looking at what's the spiritual purpose of it all and this huge special purpose individually as well as global like and when we look at the waiting versus procrastination many folks are in their homes you know in this six or two months of isolation and what is going on there what is going on are you getting bored are you getting angry I use steak nating yeah are you surviving waiting to go back out or is that man or woman you are today dramatically different than the man or woman who's going to come out of this period of isolation because you have done so much growing in the process I'm waiting for life to come back out and be social again theoretically because we can be a socially now as we were and then the differences were not doing it face to face in person right what are we doing highway simply putting in time and surviving this process are we using it to grow dramatically and really thriving in this process getting to know ourselves getting to know the parts of us we've lost because expression in the American culture we have been so busy running in circles continuously at there's no time to catch up with yourself go go go syndrome I call it right so this can be an absolute blessing in which you catch up with yourself in which you catch up with the people you love and it may be an adjustment the first few days you may know not know if you want to kill them and not kill them the but yeah but then let's deal with reality but over time it really comes down to %HESITATION are you going to learn to love again are you going to learn to open your heart again are you going to focus on the parts of them you don't like are you going to focus on the parts of them you'll not have turned it and it really says who do I want to be in this world tour %HESITATION I want to be in my own soul and so there's a waiting and yet one of rich rich time this is if we choose to make and sell you're absolutely right there I think because you know the waiting can come from two perspectives in King Kong from yelling scared insecure war being very fearful or the waiting can come from the prescription of what you're talking about for being and getting things in order getting to to reconnect with ourselves you know getting to reconnect with their family members because how many parents have worked literally not region they they've been doing what they can to keep all the balls in the air hello there okay they meet each other again they really do I saw something %HESITATION flashing across my phone or something one day last week and Jimmy Fallon was doing like a ten minute at home thing before he does show in the evening which I never really separate enough to watch so but it was fun to see this still at home piece and he started off by saying you know after two weeks in lockdown my wife and I realized we made a really good choice yes we knew it in our heads yeah but we're so busy with the kids were so busy with the show we're so busy with life but being together for two weeks he became busy with each other that is really cool I love it yeah absolutely love that thank you for sharing that yeah so as we wait and we agreed to I like to say we wait yeah and we rebuilt well we allow our intuition to guide us Ashley can tune into ourselves what a wonderful thing and our intuition guides us to work with or perhaps identify for inner genius because US many of us run away from her genius many of us run away from the talents that we have because we think things were so easy for us in that specific arena that we

benefit from social media the business that doesn't want credibility visibility or more leads yeah %HESITATION there you go okay so when you hear the words so sure media and I know that's your wine hello there's a media what does it mean to you when someone comes to you and says tell me why I need to step into your social media correct business that's why I wrote the book you know social media myths busted because I kept hearing people hard so you know all these things they have going on in their head about it like it weighs so much time and there's so much global club there and I can't make any money and those are all minutes and that we bought into as %HESITATION I would say not aware business owners of the possibility here and they haven't made it fun yet so it can be fun it doesn't have to be drudgery and you can also delegate certain things about it but %HESITATION the I want to inspire people to throw away that mental model of what you think social media is and imagine like being able to have a place you could walk into and connect with millions thousands hundreds of your ideal prospects ideal candidates for your service in a very natural relationship oriented way you don't have to be sales the impact of your sales eight you get rich you know you're really ignored the becoming visible in your sales are on the matter when the market moves in the members move out but if you like shake hands with people so if you think about it like what do you do with a normal networking meeting when you're in person we can't do that right now I knew what can be done no one else can do that you say cancel what's a handshake on social media it's a like it's a comment it's a accepting a friend request it's a %HESITATION you know follow so those are the the in effect handshake and then do what you normally do and networking meetings you want to get to know people like on link then you're going to want to connect with people just because you're curious about them and learn about them so that's a little bit of a beginning of a new paradigm so how how well you know what you just said something like every single time I've talked with you a light bulb goes off it in nineteen ninety eight I wrote my book one hundred Curtis you connecting with the winning telephone number and in that book what I said was yeah here it is this is nineteen ninety eight we'll be image on their not me but I'm not I was number one but %HESITATION when I wrote that book the one thing I said is how you answer the phone is the equivalent to a handshake when you meet someone you just said something that I never thought about when you like to come up with something for you French someone it's the equivalent of a handshake I never thought about it like that and now I can understand my frustration your Facebook I mean I get I get so frustrated when these people friend of me and I send a message back and say I'm a networker I really love to get you know you get it out and then it's crickets why do you bother reaching out and lending me you're not going to connect your response it doesn't make sense and what I what I will do is after a while I will go through my messages and if not if that person or entity person there's a lot of %HESITATION I responded to my message of networking I just unfriend them because why bother having them as a friend on Facebook it's very wise of you to hide message them is that before you accept their friendship or after it's usually after yeah I and I and believe it or not I do something that you're going to connect with somebody other parts right now I'm also test every single one and merit time and when I when I'm less adjusted because I used by when I say muscle test site the body has a bridge don't we'll talk about it too it was only just a little bit of research media bash body has a wisdom and it's something that I've used in helping business owners he %HESITATION and get rid of the emotional baggage and I used it to muscle test when something is right or not right for me and I have lots of tests to people who are friends of me where no matter how I asked the question at the moment and the moment not meant to frighten them and ended up and always keeps coming up now no matter how I do it and I won't accept your French remember your folks have accepted which is why it surprises me when I see that they don't respond the one that Lara well I can't tell you what other people are thinking and why they're doing that and some of them may be spammers are not real %HESITATION but other than it's a good way to tweet him out the way you're doing it is send the messages they don't message back unfriend them I love that strategy now here's instead of doing body wisdom which some people don't know how to do yeah then and there you can check for a couple of things first we'll go click on their profile see if they posted in a while if they haven't forget it you know actually you may not be able to see if they if they're keeping it hidden so once you accept their friend request if they haven't then you know unfriend them because that means their spam or they're not really into posting what I want to connect with them %HESITATION if they are so they don't have a profile picture if they don't have %HESITATION any post and they don't have anything filled out on their about section about who they are what they do and look at how many friends they have so %HESITATION if it's a lot or a little you know it depends if they have a lot and they're posting a lot makes sense that they have a lot in the posting nothing there spammer okay so this is the a lot this your body wisdom will verify this I don't have the body with them you can check the check great a little checklist in your mind and if two of the three are like nope they don't they're not posting anything they have too many friends they're out of there you know we don't you're talking about friends and what I ask why what compelled you to reach out to me and it drives me crazy when they come back with what we have so many friends in common if that's the reason why you want to connect with me then there's something wrong I don't really care how many yes one more question give them you know a second chance saying so what's important about us having so many frien

about it what the missing link is that most people miss when it comes to networking I am making it successful we often hear people complaining %HESITATION networking doesn't work well guess what if you so much for having me I'm really glad I'm here the timing is perfect instead many what it eats so many ways so that means you are on Wall Street first you should get out of Wall Street into your own business can you tell us a little bit more about that because one of the things that I find that a lot of our guests do is they were in these big corporate businesses and they take leaps leaps into doing what your heart was calling them to do my story is a little different so I didn't wake up one day and go oh my god I'm amazing at follow up and say I got to teach people that's like that's not how it happened so as you read I worked on Wall Street and one day I just quit because I wanted to be home with my family and I want to make a bigger difference as an entrepreneur %HESITATION unfortunately right after I quit %HESITATION my husband's real estate market because it well my husband's business because the real estate market crashed and we had we went through foreclosure bankruptcy by we lost everything it was devastating and that was gonna be the that was gonna be what was going to be supporting us so depression being a victim all that's ahead unfortunately would save me was finding a mentor I knew that this woman can help me and she did call me out of that hole and help me get back to work again during that time I met a woman who had a network at a conference who was interested in the products that I was representing at the time and she said I'm interested but follow up with me and I did for fourteen months not easy to do and finally she said yes and I continue to follow up with her like I always do with new clients and one day she left me a message and said Debbie you're amazing and follow up you need to teach me your system I remember it as it was yesterday hearing this message and she said I really struggle with follow up we need to talk and I was like what like what are you talking about so I called her and I said to what you're talking about and she said nobody follows up the way you do and people are really struggling with this you have to get you need to do something with us and to tell you the truth Terry I had no idea that this was a gap I didn't know I was doing anything special and thank god she pointed this out to me encouraged me to start this business because I really feel we all have a gap we all have that thing that we just do naturally that we take for granted right sometimes it takes somebody outside of us to pointed out and I'm really grateful because now I've been able to help hundreds and hundreds of people %HESITATION to improve their follow up and get their message out to make the impact they're here to make so I'm just so grateful but it's a very different kind of story like I just didn't know it was anything you need well actually live there a lot of folks I work with they're they're actually very much like you guys and everything just came by and said you couldn't we don't recognize our ingenious we don't because we're so close to it we don't see it it's so easy for us we have this idea that things have to be hard why you are really good at follow up you said it was fourteen months from curious how many touches before she probably bought I I've called her monthly so we're talking fourteen touches before she bought and that's what I see that a lot of sales people today yeah it's not you're not gonna make you may not make the still the first time or the second time for the third time not for time and time do your credit the fourth call she finally said yes so I do not reject the people takes twelve touches for somebody to buy actually can I share some statistics here is I think this will really help so research shows it takes five minimum contacts by the minimum for the average person will say yes to doing business with you but lots of experts say can be between eight and fifteen yeah but the thing is Terry only eight percent of entrepreneurs get make it to the fifth contact most likely forty eight percent of about Jupiter's don't even follow up once like they need somebody and they don't even make that first call right so eight percent are getting to the fifth contact which means ninety two percent of us are stopping short of where most of the business happens and of course those eight percent are doing eighty percent of the business out there and that's the whole point it's all about the follow up right so it's really critical and most people are not this isn't on their radar screens it's like you're not even thinking about it well t

everybody was resonating was you were saying get off a hamster wheel I'm tired neither do we feel like that so I records of the future you referenced ample hamster wheel but at the end of the day it's destined to do that's right now there's something else that you said that really struck me before the show okay was your nonprofit you share with us about that because not everybody has a nonprofit at a non profit years ago yeah it was a nonprofit %HESITATION that I had I I I I I people ask okay are you it is the first time I asked myself I guess I can family no work because I had a new business or block or but %HESITATION even though I were dissolved the nonprofit my heart is still working its worship and leadership and mentorship with the very firm aspect of what the nonprofit with the bat it was basically you know a lot of time and then as a matter the age but you need a while back and %HESITATION hope you along the way you need one that's been where you're trying to go back in should give you some practical advice but also some business advice as well and then if someone even about ideas doctor Stokes Allen's of arm aspect of what %HESITATION organization actually called it the twenty three D. as they will that was called the white the twenty eighteen to twenty nineteen at the I. targeted young I'm young adults between twenty to twenty nine because literally you go through so many stages that Max all conquering you need someone to help you along the way you know someone to mentor you and %HESITATION a lot of times I felt like that age group allowed arms arm gets forgotten people like %HESITATION you know what I got so much going on they do but they need help as well and fell back out was black carded at a school in %HESITATION why I %HESITATION kind of %HESITATION you name it I don't like you said before when we were talking all the possibilities never stop I would always say destiny never stopped you never get you're always going because you're learning new things about yourself you're learning more about your purpose you're finding you know more about your passion you never stop you're always arriving it's not extreme arrive so yeah when you're saying that we were talking earlier yes you get it like oh my gosh yeah I've been around the block a bit yeah so it's a lot well you know that the fact that you're working with the twenty something you were working with thank it says so much about character in who you are so I'm curious what led you to a little bit about your childhood or what got you to where you are right now okay arms so I would say I am a believer and my childhood my father with the pastor in so a lot of what him and my mother instilled in me was that I wouldn't be here just accident I'm not here just to be here I have a responsibility I have a fine and I have a %HESITATION in one of the things that I shared that my dad would always tell us back on when you're not where you're supposed to be are you sure that you know what you are straighter death makes a person that is borne along their journey in their path back when you're almost approaching interstate if you're not where you're supposed to be they're not gonna be able to intersect with you and make patch you're not gonna be able to do whatever it is that you're supposed to do they are me and %HESITATION %HESITATION back always resonated with me that I had a responsibility to the part of me and so I %HESITATION kind of look at you know with everything that I do it you know what there was you know going to school and doing some of that the nonprofit work that I did it with the community and the church %HESITATION you know what whether it was you know %HESITATION %HESITATION even in my undergrad at actress too I always had a mindset that I wanted to be of help and I wanted to be a service %HESITATION that probably is why I went to get my MBA where I got it at region because it you know just how hard it might've started leadership that's a really big thing for me and spell arm just knowing that I'm not just here I have a responsibility I have and I find it in so that often resonated in the things that I did and it %HESITATION kind of got me to where I am today out with the business that I have so you know I have a business but at the end of the day even after work you still have to start %HESITATION you still happy here %HESITATION and if the needs of your clients your customers your audience your tribe whatever you call and be able to meet them where they're at and to help them to not just see what's in front of them what are the down the road M. to help them navigate a looks like scared I love that we're navigating it's a word that I use a lot too and you know when you can help people navigate their experiences navigate their lives navigate your business as you know navigation is about discovery navigation where where a navy family okay so okay we don't sail but my and my husband and my daughter eight eight eight they rely on the navigators where they want and we are the navigators for our clients because as far as described why not all of it is integrated in getting the ship to where it needs now I now have modern day instruments to be active in the olden days I don't have a lot of the you know the modern instruments are bad eight they relied on the sun the moon the stars and we are yourself do you bring to the table because that's really who people want to dine with right and if I'm going to do business with you I want to know we have a connection that connection please my gosh it is it just seems like it's coming at me from all directions it's a bad connection people are tired of being sold to us they are I just the products and the services maintain ma'am and they have no idea who you are as a person now I mean have you noticed that your member flash this flash that you have you noticed we don't see them on sites anymore because people would like it's intrusive it's intrusive you know it's stopped pitching me stop frame things at me you know and it's just like you have no idea whether you're actually offering me a service that I need and you won't know that unless you're willing to interact with me you know I find that to be searched you're on certain platforms I'm not going to name the platforms H. as there are a couple that are pretty active on that then I'm quite active on that %HESITATION friendship and immediately I'm doing this this this this and I want to buy into this this this this and I'm like wait a minute you have no idea about who I am what I am what I do anytime you get interested in what it is that you're offering right you have to say about that Sir it's rather like buying likes on Facebook and linkedin does get the numbers what do the numbers mean nothing there's no connection give me you know three of four or five people I can truly be interactive with that we can build a community because support one another I don't need to millions of sheep will coming along it's all about the connection the interaction the participation and you know I reach out to people and say hello hi great to meet you you know and if they come
