Awards Radar: The Podcast

Welcome to the Awards Radar Podcast. In each episode, Editor-In-Chief Joey Magidson (that’s me!) will be joined by some of the staff of Awards Radar to talk about the latest in film, television, and entertainment in general. The show will obviously have an awards season slant to it, but we won’t forget about other movies and shows, that’s for sure! theme music via: Digital Juice

#256: Toronto International Film Festival, Wrapping Up TIFF

For episode 256, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski behind the scenes working on Emmys coverage and adding more guests for season three of TV Topics. This episode is our wrap up of the Toronto International Film Festival. Sure, Myles also talks Peacemaker, but this is mostly yours truly going over TIFF. My coverage can be found here, but we get into everything I saw, what I didn't, and where we go from here. Throw in an Oscar nomination-centric question and we have plenty to do...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 256th one to date (here’s to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. #233: Video Game Movies in a March Madness Bracket

For episode 233, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski behind the scenes preparing for Emmys and a new season of TV Topics, so look out for that soon. This episode is our long awaited video game movie ranking, which we do in a March Madness style bracket! Which film emerges victorious? You may be able to guess, though the Final Four is actually pretty wild. Kudos to Myles for putting together a unique list that led to some fun comparisons. In addition to some questions, we also talk about several new/upcoming releases, including The Accountant 2, Death of a Unicorn, Eric Larue (reviewed here), Freaky Tales, Friendship, Novocaine (reviewed here), and A Working Man (reviewed here). It's a lot to cover, but we do it in a reasonable amount of time, so you should all be tickled by this one...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 233rd one to date (here’s to many more). #174: a Post Oscar Nomination Recalibration

For episode 174, I’m joined once again by my co-hosts Myles Hughes and Steve Prusakowski. This time around, we take a mild break from Oscar nomination chatter to answer some questions, finish Joey's January, and do an Oscar recalibration. Plus, I give my thoughts on Argylle (reviewed here) and Lisa Frankenstein (my rave comes next week), along with the few Sundance Film Festival titles I took in. It's a loose episode, but still a very nice and beefy one, overall... As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 174th one to date (here’s to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. #53: Game Night With Joey, Myles, Ryan, and Steve

For episode number fifty three, we take a bit of a time out to just kick back. Joining me is Myles Hughes, Ryan McQuade, and Steve Prusakowski, and after answering a listener/reader question, we dive into a game. Specifically, it's Cinephile: A Card Game. Enjoy as we play a few rounds and, as always, get comedically on each others' nerves. It's a good time, and don't worry, next week will be NYFF talk, since I'll have seen The Tragedy of Macbeth. As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our fifty first third to date. Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. #268: 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' & a Look at the Early Precursors

For episode 268, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This time around, we're discussing the beginning of precursor season, alongside some heavy hitter films. I recently saw Avatar: Fire and Ash, as well as Ella McCay, which I detail to Myles. He's seen Zootopia 2, so he can tell me about that one, while he's caught up on Nouvelle Vague (reviewed out of the Toronto International Film Festival here by yours truly) and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (which I also reviewed here out of TIFF). So, we finally have a more robust discussion of those two. Plus, the precursors have led to some predictions tinkering, which generates more chatter. Throw in your questions and we have a jam packed agenda/episode...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 268th one to date (here’s to many more). For episode 267, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This is our Thanksgiving episode, featuring some Turkey Day awards season chatter. We also spend more time talking Train Dreams (my rave review is here) and Wicked: For Good (reviewed here), now that Myles has seen both. Throw in your questions and you can celebrate the holiday with some film talk, especially as the calendar gets set to turn over to December...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 267th one to date (here’s to many more). For episode 266, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This episode is full of our takes on new/recent and upcoming releases. I've seen Marty Supreme, No Other Choice, and Wicked: For Good (reviewed here), while Myles has caught up with Keeper and Predator: Badlands. There's also your questions, as well as even some theater talk, making for a nice little agenda. As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 266th one to date (here’s to many more). Awards Radar Podcast #265: Joey Tells Myles About 'The Running Man' and 'Train Dreams' After Debating 'Bugonia' Alongside Your Questions

For episode 265, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. Apologies for the short one this week, but Myles had to hit the road for a trip, so we squeezed the episode in where we could. This time around, we've both seen some things and are eager to discuss with the other, hence not delaying the recording. Myles has gotten around to Bugonia (my review is here, alongside my interview with writer Will Tracy here), while I've seen In Your Dreams (reviewed here), The Running Man (reviewed here), and Train Dreams (review to come soon). Throw in some questions and this episode, while under an hour, is still pretty packed...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 265th one to date (here’s to many more). #264: Early Golden Globe Thoughts

For episode 264, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This episode was recorded early last week, so forgive us not having any up to date news/topics. As such, we opted to, after a discussion of The Great Gatsby (it's fun, I promise), look at some very early Golden Globe predictions. You can find my updated predictions for the Globes here, but in the meantime, this does start to get the conversation going. Plus, we bring back a fun game that we teased last episode...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 264th one to date (here’s to many more). Welcome back to the Awards Radar Podcast. In each episode, Editor Joey Magidson (that’s me!) will be joined by some of the staff of Awards Radar to talk about the latest in film, television, and entertainment in general. The show will obviously have an awards season slant to it, but we won’t forget about other movies and shows, that’s for sure! For episode 263, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This episode is our annual Halloween Spooktacular, though horror is hardly all that's on the agenda. Fright flicks include Frankenstein (which I reviewed here) as well as A House of Dynamite (reviewed here), though we also get into Blue Moon (reviewed here) and Song Sung Blue (reviewed here). Myles also has a horror edition of his Letterboxd game, so it's a very fun time.

#262: 'Die My Love', Cult Horror Classics & 'Black Phone 2'

For episode 262, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This episode comes one before our annual Halloween Spooktacular, though we're still talking horror movies. In particular, we're discussing some cult classics like A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge and the Sleepaway Camp franchise. We also get into Black Phone 2 (reviewed here) now that Myles has seen it, while I detail my experience with the Jennifer Lawrence film Die My Love (which I like a lot but have some specific comments about). Throw in some questions and it's a nice sized episode...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 262nd one to date (here’s to many more). #261: Comparing Oscar Predictions & 'Is This Thing On?'

For episode 261, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This time around, we discuss spooky season viewings a bit, but much more time is given to our Oscar predictions, as well as two big films. One has already opened in Roofman (my rave review out of TIFF is here), which Myles caught. The other is the New York Film Festival's Closing Night selection, Is This Thing On? (which I reviewed as my final NYFF piece for the year here). The early Academy Award picks come at the end of the episode, as these are Myles' first crack for the season, while I talk out what my next update will look like. Throw in some questions and it's a nice long episode for you all...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 261st one to date (here’s to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. #260: Joey and Myles Get Into Spooky Season Viewings Before Discussing 'Good Boy' and 'The Smashing Machine'

For episode 260, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This episode kicks off with us discussing spooky season, namely what I've been revisiting or watching for the first time, while Myles has caught up with Good Boy (which I reviewed here). There's also a back and forth over The Smashing Machine (reviewed by yours truly here), which Myles saw over the weekend. Throw in some light Best Actor chatter given that Marty Supreme screened at the New York Film Festival as a Secret Screening, as well as your questions, and there's lots to do...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 260th one to date (here’s to many more). #259: 'A House of Dynamite' & 'One Battle After Another'

For episode 259, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This time around, I’m talking more to Myles about Paul Thomas Anderson‘s One Battle After Another (my rave review is here), now that he's seen the film. He has, let's say, a different take on the movie. In addition to that flick, we rank PTA's outings (my list is here), which we also differ a bit on. Other titles discussed here include Good Boy (reviewed here) and A House of Dynamite (which I rave about here). Throw in some questions and an announcement about how we're doing horror this month on the pod and it's a very full episode...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 259th one to date (here’s to many more). #258: Previewing the New York Film Festival & the Brilliance of 'One Battle After Another'

For episode 258, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This time around, I'm telling Myles about Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another (my rave review is here). We'll get into it more once he sees it for the next episode, but I'm fairly effusive in my praise. Many of our questions are about the film as well, so we discuss it in that regard too, while Anderson's Inherent Vice has been revisited (in part) by Myles, so there's plenty of PTA talk. Throw in some chatter about Apollo 13 as well as a preview of the New York Film Festival and we have a full episode. As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 258th one to date (here’s to many more). #257: Oscar Vibe Check Post Telluride and TIFF

For episode 257, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes. This episode is an Oscar season vibe check, as Myles and I do some category pondering. There's no big declarations or anything of the sort, though some potentially narratives are emerging. We also talk about The Long Walk (reviewed here by yours truly) now that Myles has seen it, while I tell him about Megadoc (reviewed here), Chain Reactions, and Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror. Throw in your questions and it's an episode with something for everyone...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 257th one to date (here’s to many more). #255: Wrapping TELLURIDE and Starting TIFF

For episode 255, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski behind the scenes working on what’s now Phase Two Emmys coverage and the new season of TV Topics, which are in abundance on the site currently. This time around, the episode is focused mainly on two different film festivals. I had just returned from the Telluride Film Festival (recapped here) and by the time you listen to this will be on the ground at the Toronto International Film Festival (previewed here). So, we talk about what I saw at Telluride (with Jay Kelly and especially Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere being my favorites) and what I likely will be seeing at TIFF. Myles has also seen The Roses (reviewed here) and The Toxic Avenger (reviewed here), so we compare his notes to my reviews. Additionally, we take your questions about festival season, so it's a jammed episode, as it tends to be around this time of year...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 255th one to date (here’s to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. #254: Preview of the Telluride Film Festival

or episode 254, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski behind the scenes working on what’s now Phase Two Emmys coverage and the new season of TV Topics, which are in abundance on the site currently. This episode is largely our annual Telluride Film Festival preview. We look at prior movies that have played at the festival, as well as another gander at what might be playing this year (though depending on when you listen to this, the lineup will have been revealed). Myles also doubled back on Fixed (which I reviewed here) and Together (which I reviewed here), so we talk about those briefly. Plus, I had just seen Caught Stealing (reviewed here), so there's that conversation as well, alongside a bit on The Roses (reviewed here). Throw in some questions and our Telluride preview is here...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 254th one to date (here’s to many more). #252: 'Highest 2 Lowest' and the Pair Talk 'The Naked Gun'

For episode 252, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski behind the scenes working on what’s now Phase Two Emmys coverage and the new season of TV Topics, which are in abundance on the site currently. This week, we're running a little ragged, as we only had one late night opportunity to record, and didn't want to leave you all hanging. So, we're tired. Still, Myles had caught up with The Naked Gun (which I reviewed here), leading to a discussion not just about the new one, but also the classic prior films. Plus, I had just gotten home from the premiere of Highest 2 Lowest (which I reviewed here), so we talk about that movie a bit. Throw in some of your questions and we still put on a decent enough showing, I hope...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 252nd one to date (here’s to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. #251: Worshiping Zach Cregger's 'Weapons'

For episode 251, I’m joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski behind the scenes working on what’s now Phase Two Emmys coverage and the new season of TV Topics, which are in abundance on the site currently. This time around, we're obviously focused on Zach Cregger and Weapons. My rave review is here, though Myles and I really do get into it. There's also your questions, as per the usual, and I give my thoughts on Ethan Coen's Honey Don't (review to come). However, Cregger and his genre genius is very much the focus. As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 251st one to date (here’s to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms.
