Description

Body Land is a collection of guided meditations that are accessible, experiential, and imaginative. These creative visualizations are informed by Eastern Medicine, Ecofeminism, Surrealist Art, and Somatic Therapies for the treatment of trauma. These creative visualizations help you feel more grounded, relaxed, and restored, and shift to a more positive frame of mind. Listen when you are quiet and still — and follow along in your body.

Creator and host Liz Asch Greenhill is an acupuncturist, writer, artist, and Oregon licensed Psilocybin Facilitator who has used these forms of visualization (playfully called Metaphor Medicine) in her clinic for over fifteen years, and watched patients transform on the table when this type of somatic storytelling is integrated in a session. She designed Body Land to be a free resource that gives you the effects of an acupuncture treatment without the needles. Drawing on the tradition of ‘qi cultivation’ from Chinese Medicine and the literary art of highly sensory, lyric writing, these guided listening experiences teach you that you can use the superpowers of your imagination to change the way you feel.

In an anxiety state we tell ourselves stories that aren't true, stories that are filled with hypothetical pain, chaos, and scenarios of misfortune and failure. Anxiety is the imagination gone rogue. The idea behind Body Land is that we can repurpose our brilliant and wild imaginations for the opposite effect: to reinforce sensations of safety and harmony, nurturing our sense of belonging, awareness, intuition, and inner peace. These small experiences are not meant to be curative solutions for anxiety but rather a helpful auxilliary tool in managing it. They offer fleeting micro-antidotes to help your body remember what the opposite of anxiety feels like and to embrace and embody that.

Body Land can help you prepare for a psychedelic journey, or help you get into a creative flow state, or assist you with the embodiment aspects of somatic therapy. They can be listened to before bed, after a yoga class, or on public transit. They can be enjoyed alone or in a group.

The time frame of each episode is listed in the title so that you can plan for how long your meditation will take. It’s always best to leave some extra time for afterwards so you can linger a bit longer in a spacey, calmed, or sleepy state.

Body Land Metaphor Medicine is currently 5 seasons, each with a different theme. Listen a la carte to a title that resonates with you.

Season One (2019) is focused on art and image and it comes with an Art Prescription linked in the show notes (we call this the Art Rx) referencing visual artists who work with imagery that appeared in the meditation or is similar to it.

Season Two (2020-2021) started around the time of the pandemic so it focuses on Immunity and Anxiety.

Season Three (2021-2022) is all quick meditations, 7-12 minutes because sometimes we don’t have time to sink into a deep or lengthy one.

Season Four (2022-25) is focused on Insomnia because a lot of us are seeking support and tools to help us fall asleep and stay asleep.

Season Five (2024) is for Spanish speakers. Cuerpo Tierra is Body Land en Espanol! With guest translator and voice Udom Linthavong.

Each visualization is designed to help you feel more safe and comfortable in your own skin. Listen to these visualizations with your eyes closed and let the imagery sink in to your bones. Let yourself space out, travel to the in-between, or fall asleep. The images that appear in your mind's eye are yours to keep. Imagine them floating around inside you like holograms in outer space. You can call on them whenever you need. Your body will remember.

BODY LAND is produced by Night Sky Acupuncture + Ideaphoria.

Tracing the body, we engage in a meditative awareness practice with deep breathing for a good night's sleep.
This guided meditation helps you find your center, calm your breathing, and feel safe, as you reconnect to the natural world and your own body. Using ideas and images from Eastern medicine and the powerful magic realism tools of your mind, together we find alignment, dignity, belonging, gratitude, and rest. Listen when still and quiet, alone or in a group, and follow along in your body.
When we are overwhelmed, distraught, deeply sad, and scared, it can be very hard to stay in our bodies and think clearly. This 15 minute guided meditation helps you ground, center, and re-orient so that you recognize yourself and your surroundings. Listen when still and quiet and follow along in your body. Take care. You are loved.
Join us in this sleepy visualization as we settle into the darkness, integrating safety, cleansing the body of tension, bringing in sensations of love and acceptance, ready to welcome good dreams.
Here’s another visualization to listen to before bed. to free up and bring movement to any emotions that might be hanging around stalling our ability to rest. We use symbolism to envision the emotions as colors, which lets them be energetic, as opposed to stories tied to thoughts, which take us out of the body and into the mind. So, just let the colors fly, float, wash, and waft through you, trusting in the process, the energetic release, and your ability to embody a metaphor as a way to change the way you feel.
Tune into your nervous system, creating a sensation of resonance, so you can find rest.
Season Four is focused on insomnia. Try this breath work technique to release stored tension and enhance a sense of inner peace. We will focus on the image of ripples throughout a peaceful body of water and bring those sensations into the body.
We talk a bit about the four levels of being (and reality) and use metaphors of four from the earth to tune into the body and coax it into a relaxed safe place.
The pattern of the mycelium network is around us and within. Let it transform into a softly glowing nightlight that protects you and feel yourself soften into a resting state.
You can use your imagination to affirm and generate sensations of ease, trust, and belonging. These perceptions put you at ease and help you rest.
Sleeplessness and waking early are challenges that affect so many of us. Using somatic techniques and salutary methods of storytelling, we'll weave peace through the layers of the body, mind, emotions, and soul.
Rest into nature and into your body through this image of a river running down your spine. This is designed to help increase qi flow in the hips and pelvis.
Let it be known I’ve been watching too many TikTok videos. Now it’s time to clear some energy and awaken to the senses. When we clear and clean our senses, we can participate in and appreciate the present moment. And that feels f-ing good.
Erase everything in the room. You get to be a cloud just like those dreams when you are flying. But this time, something special happens when you drop your baggage.
