Samantha’s life has not been simple or easy. At age of 10, she lost her beloved stepfather in a 7-car pile-up just 3 days before Christmas. She suffered severe bullying in school, death threats, and even lost her sister to a lifelong battle with drug addiction. At 35, in the prime of her life, she was struck down by a crippling disease that forced her to close her successful tax consultancy and give up all of her precious life-giving activities. It took years to heal physically, emotionally, and spiritually. With over 30 years of diverse volunteerism, she credits the charitable sector with helping her thrive despite her broken past. Not only is she a seasoned survivor of these so many personal and professional tragedies, she has leveraged her tenaciousness to become an advocate for many.

Your perspective isn’t the only one out there. Understanding that and knowing how to shift your perspective in order to relate and connect with other people is very important. In this episode, Samantha Postman continues her conversation with Tre Ammatuna, frontend engineer at Amazon Web Services, as they share their thoughts on perspective shifting and how it connects to each of their fields. Samantha uses her background in photography to explain the value of having multiple perspectives and why it empowers diversity of thought and practices empathy. Tre, likewise, shares how learning how to shift and recalibrate at a moment’s notice is vital both in software development and life in general. Samantha also gives real-life examples on how perspective shifting can better not only one-on-one communication but can even extend to how we create systems and build stadiums. Love the show? When you put things to paper, it is said that you remember them better, especially if you’re a visual person. From a therapeutic standpoint, this allows you to see things better—even emotions or words that can sometimes be hard to grasp. Samantha Postman finds drawing and photography as some kind of therapy for herself. Still with Dr. Ayomide Adebayo, they pick up from where they left off in this third part of their special series by discussing how drawing and photography allow us to process things better from seeing them in a different light. What is more, they also talk about how we magnify the very people who have contributed to who we have become. Join Samantha and Dr. Adebayo as they take us through their thoughts and wisdom on life and expressing it in ways that are natural to who we are.Love the show? We have always been told to identify our strengths and weaknesses and work on those weaknesses to become a well-rounded person. But isn’t that an exhausting way to do things? Wouldn’t it be better to focus on our strengths instead? Samantha Postman shares this epiphany of hers with Dr. Ayomide Adebayo in this second part of their conversation, which also leads to a number of very interesting deep dives. Among other topics, you’d be amazed just how much a tax accountant like Samantha has in common with a psychologist like Dr. Ayomide. She opens up about writing and posting about the MeToo Movement on her twitter and sparking up a conversation to her connections on social media. They also talk about mentorship and how people, especially women in corporations are afraid to mention mentorship and what we should be doing about it. Love the show? Did you know that a very large proportion of podcasters have less than a thousand listeners? It makes you wonder why someone would pick a format that has requires quite a bit of work and commitment for a not-so-wide reach. Samantha Postman knows there is so much more to podcasting that meets the surface, as she shares with her guest, Casey Juanxi Li. Flipping the usual interview format, Samantha shares with Casey why she thinks podcasting is the most efficient way to repurpose content into multiple channels and platforms while really only doing the work for one.
