Legendary Nights S4 E10 - The Tale Of Jack Johnson vs James J Jeffries

In 1910, Jack Johnson and James J. Jeffries clashed in Reno, Nevada to contest the world heavyweight crown in what was then billed as “The Fight of the Century.” At stake was far more than a mere boxing championship, as the black Johnson, having taken the belt from Canadian Tommy Burns in 1908, was thought by the white public in America to be wholly unfit to hold the title. Jeffries, an undefeated former champion and the most legitimate “Great White Hope,” had been repeatedly summoned to return to boxing so he could defeat the brash Johnson and reinstate the white man’s rightful place atop the athletic hierarchy. His quest would prove fruitless, but the legendary Johnson vs Jeffries match, with its buildup and aftermath, was a genuine sensation and social phenomenon, an event that galvanized the public while reflecting the hateful ideologies of the age Subscribe Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/legendary-nights/id1493845050 Spotify https://open.spotify.com/show/2QyYCjXipHAfAPTAUUKQDO We are also available on Player FM, Spreaker, and all other major podcasting apps Follow us at: https://twitter.com/legendnightpod https://www.facebook.com/btrboxingpodcast Become A Patron patreon.com/btrboxingpodcastnetwork Learn more about your ad choices. Legendary Nights S4 E3 - The Tale Of Riddick Bowe vs Andrew Golota

There was a moment some 25 years ago when Lou Duva once again believed he had the best heavyweight in the world – but only, he said, if fights were fought in the street and not the ring. The heavyweight in question was Andrew Golota, a talented but troubled Pole who, in 1996, fought Riddick Bowe twice and conspired to lose both fights when in a winning position. Duva, Golota’s head coach at the time, watched helplessly from the corner on both occasions and struggled to understand how Golota had fouled his way to consecutive disqualification defeats. All he knew for certain was this: no two fights better exemplified how boxing is as much a battle of the mind as the body. Sean & Johnston guide you through the polarising boxing careers' detailing moments that would act as a prelude to what the two fights in 1996 would provide in The Tale of Riddick Bowe vs Andrew Golota.
