I really miss riding on  the train, and often think about Japan, London, and France — the subway systems that I've ridden outside of the U.S. I got my DJ name from an a beautiful moment I spent with my father, who passed on his love of train rides to me. So this month's mix leaves the station in the deep house area with Andrius Zamba's "London Underground" (London's subway system, also known as "The Tube"), which I have ridden. From here, it's a smooth ride until we get past the 7th track, "My Lips" by Crazibiza, and onto "Sunglasses" by 2Lovers where everything picks up a bit. We even enter Tech House territory before ending up in the land of Techno, with Ramon Tapia's "Bang The Box". Let me know what you think!

This mix pounds the floor at a relentless 130 bpm, and has enough sub to fuel you through your workouts, and your day. I have had a really fun time playing at this speed, and it actually makes you want those longer, 6 minute tracks when your mixing, allowing you to be expressive.  There are 17 tracks played here, with time for you to get lost amongst the notes, but also to keep your heart and feet locked in for the ride! Enjoy!

Hello and welcome to Episode 95 of BUDDHA BEATS! I’m The Engineer, you DJ for the next hour. This mix was inspired by the DJs I got to see this past weekend (April 20th) in Los Angeles. They really had the floor eating out of the palm of their hands. It had me thinking the whole way back to my hotel, and again on the way back to Philly. So, I when I got behind my own decks, I immediately started recording. This mix is a result of just going for it. There are four of my own tracks in here, and are surrounded by some sweet tracks. Please share this mix with your friends. Enjoy!

BUDDHA BEATS 89-HARD TECHNO

Episode 89 is a 90 minute, blistering ride through the heavier and harder facets of the techno genre. When I made this, my head was clear, I had had enough sleep, and I was excited to do my absolute best. I honestly feel that this is one of my best mixes thus far. Mainly, because I took the time to get it right. Not like I didn’t for the others I’ve done, but I am extremely proud of this one. I hope you’ll agree! Hello all! The Engineer here. Welcome to Episode 88 of the BUDDHA BEATS podcast! I hope you’re doing well. Question for you: Do you remember when breakbeats was the new hotness? No? Break-whats?  For those who weren’t around  in the scene when breakbeats were all the rage at the time, check this video out for a small primer (https://youtu.be/B4r0MdBQI6U). The reason for the reference, is that this month’s mix is all breaks and bass. This includes genres like Baltimore Bass style, Rave Breaks, Funky Breaks, Ghetto Bass, and others.   NOTE!:  Some tracks have adult language, so I apologize for that, and you have been warned.   That being said, these tracks — like many — take me back to when I first heard, or spun tracks from these genres, and I thought I would share these with you all. Now, what’s more important, is that all of the tracks listed here except the last one are by artists on Bandcamp.com. As an artist, it’s tough to get people to notice your work, and Bandcamp is a great place to find some of the most creative pieces out there.  I wanted to make sure these amazing productions and the artists who brought them to life get to an audience, with me as the conduit.  I have included links in the track listing (https://daibutsumusic.com/buddhabeats/episode88), so if you like what you’ve heard, PLEASE. GO. SUPPORT. THESE. ARTISTS. While there are free tracks on Bandcamp (where you pay what you think the track is worth), please spend a few bucks and help these fine folks out. You'd like to hear more of their music right?  Me too. So, let's get them acknowledged, and a few buck towards, bills, gear, services that they need to continue doing what they clearly love doing: making dope music.   Daibutsu Music has a store there too, and I love getting an email that lets me know someone purchased my work on the Bandcamp platform.   Please share this mix on your social feeds, it is greatly appreciated. Enjoy the mix!   TRACK LIST 00:00 — Ain’t Nobody Shake It Down (Original Mix) by Isaiah 05:00 — Mentasm (Origingal Mix) by Rave 2 The Grave 07:50 — Feel The Power (Original Mix) by Core Dimension feat. If you hadn't noticed, I've really been digging the more hypnotic techno as of late. There has been some seriously sweet pieces I've discovered, so I thought this month's mix should a hypnotic one. Something else that has stood out to me is Bandcamp.com. This website has a LOT of amazing talent on it, and I have made sure that I get my releases there as well. Quite a few of the tracks on the mix are from artists/producers/DJs on the Bandcamp platform, and I highly recommend you check Bandcamp out if you haven't already. A close friend of mine referred Bandcamp being the equivalent of real crate digging, and I completely agree. This is the last BUDDHA BEATS mix of 2022. This year, I made some pretty big strides. When I look back at how far I’ve come, it seems makes me feel amazing to see that I achieved so much . Today I also released the discography for the first ten years of the Daibutsu Music label. It’s got 100 tracks, and that’s nothing to sneeze at. Normally, I would have a video recording of the mix being made, but when I got home from work, and finally got to make the mix, I just turned on the decks, and recorded it straight to my iPod Touch. I didn’t even fire up the computer, the visuals, or the cameras. I’m being honest here, I was tired from work. Retail during the Christmas season is ridiculous, and I’m sure I don’t have to tell anyone about that for you to get the gist of what I’m saying.. But, listening back to this, it turned out so well. So, with that, I want to say Merry Christmas / Feliz Navidad, and Happy New Year to you!

This month we have tracks from ShadowWork, Lee Holman, Daniel Levak, Jason Johnson (DE), and a few from yours truly. After a much needed break, I'm back in the studio, and behind the decks, bringing my sound to party people worldwide. Juneteenth, 2022. Last year’s mix was fun, but this time, I wanted to bring some attention to the people who bring us these amazing performances, ideas that eventually became hits, even if only in the most underground of spaces. This mix features House and Techno legends like King Britt, DJ Dozia, Carl Cox, Kerry Chandler, Todd Terry, Mike Huckaby, Idris Elba, and Green Velvet. Along with singers like Whitney Houston, Martha Wash, Jocelyn Brown, Rainie Lassiter, and Billy Porter. These people inspired the likes of The Funkboys, Komanche and myself to continue to move the music forward. Happy Juneteenth, Pride, and Black Music Month. Enjoy!
When I had started going to raves back in the 90's, the only "online" places were CompuServe, Prodigy, AOL, and if you really knew what you were doing, you would log on to a BBS — a Bulletin Board System. And these were used for chatting with people across the country, and depending on what you logged into, even the world. I remember logging into a BBS one night, and learning of a rave party once. Other than that, the best way to learn of the parties were flyers and word of mouth. And, once you learned of the party, in order to throw off the authorities, there were map-point hotlines. You would call from the first one, find out where the next one was to get to the party. Sometimes it was in a decrepit or dilapidated building or warehouse. These were called Illegal or "Outlaw" raves. That being said, the DJs, and the music you heard at these events were magical. Now that I'm older, and have amassed quite a nice catalog of tracks from that area in various formats (CD/vinyl/MP3s), I always wanted to play at one of those events from back in the day. But something I quickly learned was how distant the BPMs were for large number of the tracks from that era, and how the speed of almost all of them drifted between a few different BPMs! And back then, there wasn't any sync buttons, or even digital DJ decks to use. It was ALL vinyl! I give credit where credit is due, the DJs back then made it look as simple as tying your shoe, when it was more like trying to knit a quilt from multiple directions. In this month's mix, I have been able to incorporate some of today's hard techno tracks in a mix withe some classic rave tracks from the like of Acen's "Trip II The Moon" (Parts One And Two), Church Of Extacy's "Passion", and Interactive's "Elevator Up & Down". Each of these tracks, if played for a raver who went to parties in the 1990s will instantly be able to tell you their escapades in which each of these tracks played a part! And to top it all off, I added my own track "Original Raver" to close the set. This unreleased track is my own attempt at writing a 90's rave track, complete with rave whistles!  Let me know what you think! Enjoy!
