BONUS: In 2016 I created the 100 FIRST FOODS approach to starting solid foods with baby-led weaning. I did the 100 FIRST FOODS approach with my baby quadruplets, creating a 5-step feeding framework that helps you introduce 5 new foods per week, 20 foods per month and 100 foods in the first 5 months of your baby eating solid foods.   The 100 FIRST FOODS program has grown immensely and is now a formalized digital program that I co-teach with my friend, colleague & fellow BLW expert Dawn Winkelmann, MS, CCC-SLP. In this episode I interviewed the parents of 7 different 100 FIRST FOODS graduates to inspire YOU to start pushing your baby’s palate today by challenging yourself to try 100 NEW FOODS with baby-led weaning! #100: Gill Rapley will be the first to tell you she didn’t “invent” baby-led weaning. But if you’ve read Rapley’s original baby-led weaning book, you’ll agree that she did a lot more than, as she so modestly claims, “...just gave it a name and a theoretical base”. As the founder of the baby-led weaning philosophy, GIll Rapley opened our eyes to the reality that when it comes to feeding: babies can do so much more than we give them credit for.    To celebrate the 100th episode of the BABY-LED WEANING MADE EASY podcast, I’m thrilled to bring you a two-part interview series with the lady who started it all: Gill Rapley, PhD.    In this first episode we’ll be looking at the history of baby-led weaning: did she set out to spawn a baby-feeding movement? How did Rapley come to co-author Baby-Led Weaning: The Essential Guide book with Tracey Murkett? And then how did she deal with doubters and skeptics when the baby-led weaning philosophy and practice really began to take off?    I’ve sat in my fair share of infant feeding seminars and heated BLW moms groups where I’ve often wondered, “...What Gill Rapley would have to say about this?” Well, I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity in this interview to ask her all about the early days of baby-led weaning and to hear the answer straight from its biggest champion and founding philosopher!   If you’re ready to raise an independent eater and prevent picky eating then let’s get started learning about baby-led weaning together! If you can only afford or get access to certain types of organic foods, which ones should you offer to your baby?   In this episode we’re looking at organic foods to determine if they are inherently better choices for babies than are non-organic foods. You hear the term “self-care” thrown around a lot in the motherhood and parenting space...but what does it actually mean?    In this episode Christine Sterling, MD from The Sterling Life is joining us to talk about why self-care as a parent is so important. We need to be taking care of ourselves, especially during transition times in your baby’s life...like when you’re starting solids.   Dr. Sterling is a board-certified OBGYN dedicated to helping moms navigate pregnancy, postpartum and parenthood. Dr. Sterling’s mission is to help remind us that self-care can help bring joy among the imperfect.   In Dr. Sterling’s words, “Do your children see you enjoying life even when the to-do list is not done?” If you’re like most of us and the answer is no, check out this episode with Christine Sterling, MD @drsterlingobgyn to get some self-care in your situation stat!     If you’re ready to raise an independent eater and prevent picky eating then let’s get started learning about baby-led weaning together! #87: We had 7 kids in 3.5 years and I have made a LOT of mistakes in my brief parenting journey. Before I changed my dietitian career to specialize in infant feeding and baby-led weaning I was a super stressed out mom trying to figure BLW out on my own to feed my quadruplet babies.   It was hard for me to narrow the list of BLW mistakes I made when I was starting out down to just 7. I went through my phone, back to the first week that the quads started BLW and I am just cringing because I made SO MANY MISTAKES. My quads are fine, they lived through it...but if I can save you some heartache or stress or help you reverse an unsafe feeding practice early on in your BLW journey, well that’s my intention with this episode.   Join me as I walk you through 7 BABY-LED WEANING MISTAKES I MADE SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO! I’m getting kind of personal in this episode, but looking back I wish I had a resource like this when I was starting solids as a new mom and I hope you find it helpful (...but also a reminder that we’re all human, we all mistakes and we can all learn from each other and OUR collective mistakes!)        If you’re ready to raise an independent eater and prevent picky eating then let’s get started learning about baby-led weaning together! Dr. Sterling spoke to my soul. I've struggled being a mom 8-10 months postpartum and I was comforted hearing something different than "it gets easier as they get older."
