David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I
come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you
have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut
off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the
wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

Luke 15:1-7 NIV
15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and
the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.
Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And
when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and
neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same
way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous
persons who do not need to repent.”
Psalm 23:4 NIV

“Shout with the voice of a trumpet blast. Shout aloud! Don’t be timid.
Tell my people Israel of their sins! 2 Yet they act so pious! They come to the
Temple every day and seem delighted to learn all about me. They act like a
righteous nation that would never abandon the laws of its God. They ask me to
take action on their behalf, pretending they want to be near me. 3 ‘We have
fasted before you!’ they say. ‘Why aren’t you impressed? We have been very
hard on ourselves, and you don’t even notice it!’ “I will tell you why!” I respond.
“It’s because you are fasting to please yourselves. Even while you fast, you keep
oppressing your workers. 4 What good is fasting when you keep on fighting and
quarreling? This kind of fasting will never get you anywhere with me. 5 You
humble yourselves by going through the motions of penance, bowing your heads
like reeds bending in the wind. You dress in burlap and cover yourselves with
ashes. Is this what you call fasting? Do you really think this will please the Lord?
Isaiah 58:1-5 NLT (711)
4 Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with a wicked fist. Fasting

ESV
“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the
straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? 7 Is it

house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your
own flesh? Isaiah 58:6-7 ESV

3) YOUR HEALING WILL SPRING FORTH SPEEDILY.
Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here
I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and
speaking wickedness, 10 if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the
desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom
be as the noonday. 11 And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your
desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a
watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. Isaiah 58:9-11
ESV

you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that your fasting will not be
noticed by people but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who
sees what is done in secret will reward you. Matthew 6:16-18 NASB

A Portrait of The Bread
He spread a cloud for a covering, And fire to give light in the night. 40 The people
asked, and He brought quail, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven. 41 He
opened the rock, and water gushed out; It ran in the dry places like a river. Psalms

Him." John 6:27
"Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from
heaven to eat.'” John 6:31 (NKJV)
Because they did not believe in God, and did not trust in His salvation. 23 Yet He had
commanded the clouds above, and opened the doors of heaven, 24 Had rained down
manna on them to eat, and given them of the bread of heaven. 25 Men ate angels' food;
He sent them food to the full. 26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heavens; and by
His power He brought in the south wind. 27 He also rained meat on them like the dust,
Feathered fowl like the sand of the seas; 28 And He let them fall in the midst of their
camp, All around their dwellings. 29 So they ate and were well filled, For He gave them
their own desire. Psalms 78:22-29 (NKJV)

bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" Matthew 4:3-4

said, "Seven." 21 So He said to them, "How is it you do not understand?" Mark 8:19-21

he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the
life of the world." John 6:50-51
"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are
spirit, and they are life.
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The
bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we, though
many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. 1 Corinthians
10:16-17
