EP 27 - Cross-promoting Your Social Media Content

Creating engaging social media content has become easier than ever. Instagram has made finding and utilizing its templates much easier, and with those created videos, you can (and should) cross-promote on other platforms. It is a much-debated topic on whether you should create “original” content for each platform, but what's the difference if you’re using the same videos for each short-form Reel or Short? In this episode of the Balancely Podcast, host Tyler Valencia goes over how easy it’s become to cross-post your content on all the social media channels and then goes over a step-by-step example you can use today. One of the biggest takeaways of this podcast episode is making sure you know where your demographics are. This is the first major topic in this episode because it helps you, as a creator, maximize the time you have to create content. If your audience isn’t on a specific social media platform, don’t make that platform the one you spend the most time on. Each social media platform skews a certain way with its demographics, and finding out that information will help you organize your time with your business goals. EP 26 - Should You Rebrand Your Business?

If you feel like your health, wellness, or fitness business needs a fresh coat of paint, don’t get bogged down with the worry about change. All major companies update their logo and branding, and it’s a much easier process than you might think. Not only are there a handful of resources out there to help you with the process, but you can easily perform this update on a budget. In this episode of the Balancely Podcast, host Tyler Valencia goes over questions to ask yourself about a rebrand, the resources available to you, and where to start. A rebrand can help your business stay current and match the branding of your competition. The position you don’t want to end up in is having a company logo from the 90s and in the same format as documents made in that era. Starting a rebrand doesn’t need to be an overnight fix and will take some patience, but you will definitely learn a lot about yourself throughout the process. Take a listen to this episode and let us know a resource you like to utilize for creating content for your business. EP 25 - Conferencing 101

Attending a conference as a health, wellness, or fitness professional can be a great avenue for collecting all your required continuing education or be a great tool for networking. These conferences often have the approval of major education providers and can provide a low-cost option for continuing education. In terms of networking, you can often meet other professionals that are looking to build their business and find that edge to help them grow their careers. In this episode of the Balance Podcast, host Tyler Valencia shares his insight into conferencing, having been a consultant for a conference company and currently being a presenter. One of the best tips you will hear in this episode revolves around learning about topics outside your wheelhouse. The lectures at conferences come from various topics, and picking lectures that aren’t your normal favorites can help you expand your knowledge base and ultimately improve the quality of your coaching. EP 24 - Contractor Vs Employee

An important decision as an entry-level personal trainer, group exercise instructor, strength coach, or wellness coach is which employment status will benefit me most. When you’re new to the health & fitness industry, there are many options, but which route is the most viable? Host Tyler Valencia, Ph.D.(c), reviews employee and contractor benefits for instructors trying to decide where to start. These options can differ by location and what you feel more comfortable with at that point in your career. You can typically work through both statuses and grow your work day. While working in the health & fitness industry can be nice, it often takes time to make a decent wage. Instructors work when clients have free time or need time to sell themselves to clients. That is usually before a potential client’s work day starts or ends. This leads to a non-typical work day that some are not used to but can change as you gain more experience and grow your client base. When you’re starting in the fitness industry, what are your options? Do you have to immediately become an employee at a gym or work at an established business? Are there other routes that suit your personality and current work experience? These items are not typically covered in an entry-level educational course for health & fitness professionals but should be a regular topic to consider. If you know your options, you can hopefully turn your passion for helping individuals improve their health into a long-term career as an instructor. EP 23 - Showing What’s Important On Social Media

What do you post on social media? How do you think it portrays you as a fitness professional, wellness coach, health coach, or yoga instructor? Bringing your thought process around to “what is important to me” on social media can help you not only figure out what type of content to develop but also help you build your audience. These days, consumers want to know more about their instructors and what they value. If you think about it, social media can act as those small superficial interactions you have at the gym with potential clients, and that sometimes lead to bigger investments in your services. Using your social media as this medium can help expand your audience to a global scale and help you focus your attention on the type of content. In this episode of the Balance Instructor Podcast, host Tyler Valencia, PhD(c) goes over how he’s been viewing social media and some strategies he’s been using to grow his audience. One of the most useful tools on Instagram right now is Reels. On the platform, you can find free templates that you can integrate your content with or find audio files that you can save later. Creating Reels has become easier than ever and this allows you to develop more engaging content. EP 22 - Handling Social Media Topics With Clients

Social media has always been a hot topic for health, wellness, and fitness professionals. There are still some professionals that don’t know the power of social media for their business and some that only see the negative. The negative side of social media can come in many ways and one common occurrence for professionals is when a client or potential client asks about a post they saw on social media. When you know that a post includes false information or can harm individuals with their health, how do you approach these conversations? In this episode of the Balance Podcast, host Tyler Valencia shares about a recent Instagram Reel that was shared with him that contained incorrect information and how professionals can discuss these topics with their clients. By approaching these topics with a positive response, professionals can show their education, professionalism, and build on their existing relationship with a client. By going the other way and negatively attacking a post, a professional loses out on an opportunity to showcase their education in their given field and build trust in the investment the client has made. EP 21 - Why You Should Start On YouTube

Regardless of what your audience is, YouTube can be a valuable resource for health, wellness, and fitness professionals. The journey on YouTube of learning new skills can pay off in other areas of your business and you can learn a lot about yourself. One example is with content creation. When you start on YouTube, creating better quality content can pay off with better looking and sounding videos. Better looking and sounding video is right on par with better content on social media, and that is another tool that all professionals use to build their careers. One of the biggest advantages of using YouTube is that it’s not a ‘me vs. you’ mentality, and often content creators are willing to share their tips that helped them grow their channel. If you’ve worked within any gym or health club, you know that it can be a cut throat environment and with YouTube you will find health, wellness, and fitness professionals with similar channels willing to do collaborations. A collaboration is one way that you can expand your audience while focusing on creating quality content, and hopefully learn something new about your YouTube journey. If you’re already on YouTube, how has it been? What do you wish you knew more about? Take a listen to this episode and share your thoughts on how YouTube can or has benefits your business. EP 20 - Social Media Strategy In 2023

We know that time is money and investing our time in social media should hopefully have some sort of return. That return might not always be monetary and might come in the form of a larger audience, more likes, more shares, all of which can lead to more revenue for your business. Having a strategy means you’re creating content for a reason, and not spending time on a daily basis to create new content. In this episode of the Balance Podcast, Tyler Valencia, PhD(c) discusses the importance of a social media strategy and provides examples of how to create consistency in a content development schedule. One of the strategies that Tyler shares is YouTube Centered Digital Marketing. With this strategy, an individual makes content for YouTube and divies it up for other areas of their business. For example, after filming a video for YouTube using it for your blog, newsletter, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and even LinkedIn. Right there are all the major social media platforms that businesses use and more. Keep in mind that this strategy assumes that you are creating content for YouTube following all the best practices and then using that content for every other platform. This type of strategy creates a starting point for how to market your business and how you can have a purpose for each idea. In this episode concepts such as “filler posts”, Reels, and YouTube best practices will be discussed but know that this is just a starting point. EP 18 - Starting A Podcast

Starting a podcast as a health & fitness professional can be a great business tool for so many reasons. One reason that has been highlighted in previous episodes of the Balance Podcast is being able to work on your public speaking skills. Public speaking is a frightening task for many people but such a necessary tool for individuals that work in this profession. If you want to film content for social media, build an on-demand library, or speak at conferences, public speaking is a part of it! With podcasting, you are recording on your own and formulating your content without the pressure of someone watching. In this episode of the Balance Podcast, host Tyler Valencia, PhD(c) goes over four parts of starting a podcast and companies that can help you along the way. Another great reason for starting a podcast is adding a benefit to your members. If you can bring on guests from around the health spectrum to provide their advice to your members, you can add one more value of being a member of yours. For example, if you run an in-person bootcamp, having a guest come onto your podcast to talk about sleep can be a great topic that helps them with their overall wellness. On top of that, this guest may want to share the podcast within their network which gives your business organic cross promotion. This episode of the Balance Podcast hopefully provides another business building tool for listeners that they can utilize right away. After listening, hopefully they feel empowered and hear how easy it can be to get started today! EP 17 - Kelly Favret | Switching from Live to Online Workouts

One of the biggest benefits of doing online workouts is the flexibility. Not just for the fitness instructor but for the individual participating in the workout from home. If you are filming and creating online workouts, there’s no set time that you must show up at a gym and you’re able to create a schedule that works with your lifestyle. In this episode of the Balance Podcast, guest Kelly Favret shares her journey with online workouts over the last few years and what she is doing now with Time 2 Train Fitness. Kelly started her own online workout community and went through the pains of trying to figure out audio hardware and royalty free music, all before she joined the Time 2 Train Fitness team. Kelly shares the benefits of creating online workouts that have helped her with being a busy mom of two. Also, Kelly shares some advice for instructors who are struggling with creating quality online workouts. One of those tips is finding a quality mentor that is knowledgeable in online workouts. There are a lot of fitness “gurus” who claim to know the nitty gritty of online workouts, but ultimately are trying to sell their own products. EP 16 - Is Online A Good Route For First Time Instructors

An interesting topic for instructors to discuss is, has online become a viable route for new instructors entering the health & fitness industry? In previous years, many would have advised entry level professionals that they need to apply to a certain number of gyms in order to get experience and just work in-person. What teaching online has shown us is that instructors can reach a global audience and still provide an effective workout. A major benefit instructors have spoken about is their ability to teach friends and family through Zoom and how it has created a new revenue stream. So can this be a route for newcomers and can they learn skills that help them become a well rounded instructor? In this episode of the Balance Podcast, Tyler Valencia goes through this question and why he believes new fitness instructors can learn skills teaching online that many veteran instructors learn after years of working in the industry. One of the realities of teaching online is that it is different. Constant communication and cueing helps viewers of the online workout process the information and hopefully complete each workout in a safe manner. Online workouts force instructors to be creative with their exercise breakdowns and even exercise selection. This translates well to instructors that choose to go back to teaching in-person and creates another avenue for entering the fitness industry. For example, Sean has helped host in-person and online events for StrongFirst using multi-cam set-up and switchboards to capture video and audio. One of the best pieces of advice Sean shares is about being authentic with the content you create. If you’re starting to create affiliate content, select products that you utilize, and feel will benefit your audience.
