This week we are live from Moontown Brewing and the Moontown Market. One of the brewery owners, Bobby Mattingly, joins the show to discuss the three beers they released (Kolsch, Vienna Lager, and Juicy Hazy IPA) and the Moontown Market. We also dive into marketing strategies, state parks, and give a shoutout to each of the vendors from the Market.
This week Matt and Dustin imbibe on three different versions of Phase Three Brewing's Pressed Imperial Coffee Porter. The conversation dives into what they think quality beer means, the lack of love for classic beer styles, and what are some of the best retail stores to find great beer selections around Indiana.
This week Matt and Dustin discuss Shinobi Lager from Blockhead Brewing, 14 Karat Golden IPA from Sun King Brewery, More Fest 2023, and an article about how beer festivals are dying.
We partied hard last Friday, attending Ash & Elm's 7th Anniversary Party, then winding down at Kismetic Beer Company afterwards. Lots of great ciders and beers were imbibed that evening. The Indiana Brewer's Cup also took place last weekend and we discuss the results. Shoutout to Primeval Brewing for their big victory. And to round out the show we discuss a few upcoming beer events and how the community has come out in droves to help Black Circle get back on their feet.
The day has finally come. After years of talking about brewing a collaboration beer with Sean Manahan at Kopacetic Beer Factory, we finally did it. This episode features discussion of the brew day itself, the beers we collaborated on, and additional interviews with both Manahan and Cody Moon of Science Project Brewing.
This week Matt and Dustin imbibe with Mike Abel, the head brewer of Fork & Ale Restaurant and Brewery which is located in Carmel, IN. They discussed several of Mike's beers, including his lager, amber ale, and hefeweizen. In between beer tastings, Mike explained his background and how he came to be the head brewer of Fork & Ale.
This week we imbibe on Upper Hand Brewing's Sisu Stout, a barrel-aged Imperial Stout. We begin by reviewing the beer label, then dive into the beer review as we follow along with the BJCP Guidelines for cream ales. The review consists of our opinion on appearance, aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel. At the end, we discuss where it ranks on our Top 50 Specialty Beer list.
This week we imbibe on Highland Brewing's Gaelic Ale, an amber. We begin by reviewing the beer label, then dive into the beer review as we follow along with the BJCP Guidelines for cream ales. The review consists of our opinion on appearance, aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel. At the end, we discuss where it ranks on our Top 50 House Beer list.
Spring cleaning also includes the beer fridges, which means not a ton of new beers to discuss. We then dive into Bud Light losing it's No. 1 ranking as the top beer sales in the US and the State of Maryland loses a third big brewery. We round out the show with a list of events happening around the state over the next few months.
This week we imbibe on Wolf's Ridge Brewing Coffee Vanilla Daybreak, a cream ale. We begin by reviewing the beer label, then dive into the beer review as we follow along with the BJCP Guidelines for cream ales. We've once again made it to Friday! This week we discuss beers we've had including ones from Upland Brewing, Wolf's Ridge Brewing, and Scarlet Lane. Matt once again professes his undying love of HotBoys chicken. We then discuss a new trend where craft breweries are buying back their independence and go over a survey conducted by Drizly that claims more people are drinking at home due to inflation. The show rounds out with talk about a few upcoming beer events.
This week we imbibe on Guggman Haus Brewing's Winner's Milk Jug, a milk stout. We begin by reviewing the can label, then dive into the beer review as we follow along with the BJCP Guidelines for Sweet Stouts. Welcome to the first Barrel Chat After Dark show! This was recorded after our interview with Science Project Brewing's head brewer Cody Moon. He brought out more beer and we got down to the brass tax on topics like: ceiling fans, dogs, smoothie sours, the Logansport Berries, and more.
We broke down the studio and headed two hours north to Logansport, IN to meet with Science Project Brewing's head brewer, Cody Moon. During the hour-long interview, Cody told us about the small brewery in his garage that he calls homebrew, how he joined Science Project, and why he brews so many collaboration beers. We intertwined sampling four beers that were on tap and discussed the positives and negatives of each beer.
This week, Matt discusses his trip to Scarlet Lane and a crazy Caramel Apple ale from Foreign Local. In the news this week was the World Beer Cup results and Perdue chicken announced a collaboration beer with Torch & Crown Brewing Company called Beer Can Chicken. The show is rounded out with mentions of new openings, a closure, and an anniversary party.
This week we imbibe on a variant of Perennial Artisan Ale's Abraxas Imperial Stout, the Salted Chocolate Abraxas from 2022. We start by discussing the beer label, then dive into a review of the beer using the BJCP Guidelines for a Imperial Pastry Stout. The review consists of our opinion on aroma, appearance, flavor, and mouthfeel. At the end, we discuss where it ranks, if at all, on our Top 50 Specialty Beer list.
Oh boy, here we go again with another fruited smoothie sour. Does this one change our minds on the beer style? Probably not, but you won't know until you listen. Find out what Matt and Dustin think about this variation of Mortalis Brewing's Hydra series. You can find the episode and more on any podcast platform, including Spotify, Apple Podcast and Google Podcasts.
This week we discuss imbibing on Daredevil Brewing's Indy Premium Lager and tasting all five of Taxman Brewing's Deadline Imperial Stout releases. Then our first new story is about the 2023 Best of Craft Beer Awards where three Indiana breweries won medals. Our second news story covers the Founders closure of their Detroit Taproom and the coincidence of that occurring just hours after being sued for racial discrimination, again. And we round out the show with what's happening around the state.
This week we review Chilly Water Brewing's Blood on the Tracks, which is a Blood Orange IPA. Come imbibe with us as we discuss the can label artwork and work our way through the BCJP guidelines (Appearance, Aroma, Flavor, and Mouthfeel) to determine how this beer stacks up. At the end, we discuss where on our Top 50 House Beers list this Blood Orange IPA will rank.
This week we cracked open a six pack instead of a four pack. We took a trip from the far eastside over to the west side of Indianapolis, stopping at five different breweries, and imbibing on loads of tasty beers. The stops included: Scarlett Lane Brewing, Triton Brewing, Bier Brewery, Big Lug Brewing, and Deviate Brewing.
