Ep9 | Jason BJJ50

2020-11-2301:40:29

Do you even Jiu Jitsu Bro? Jason is the creator and owner of Jiu Jitsu Five-O, a police training and apparel company that promotes the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle for officers around the world. He is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt and a former amateur boxer and certified boxing coach through USA Boxing. When not on the mats, he works full time as a police officer, which he has done for the past 10 years. In addition to his roles as a patrol officer and department training officer, he is a lead Combative Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor and Field Training Officer. He believes Jiu Jitsu is not only the solution to most issues surrounding police use of force, but also for an officer's overall physical and mental well-being. Jason has made it his mission to make police officers better. Enjoy!
Ep8 | Ryan Johnson

Ep8 | Ryan Johnson

2020-11-1901:26:30

After serving in the US Army with the 10th Mountain Division, Ryan Johnson joined law enforcement where he is currently assigned to a full-time SWAT team. With 13 years on the job, 7 of which are SWAT, Ryan plays many roles: sniper, assaulter and currently holds the position of assistant tactical team leader.  He trains at the highest level, regardless of discipline, and is always striving to become a better police officer and person. More importantly he is a husband and father of two boys. One of my favorite discussions about LE so far. Enjoy! Reach out to Ryan: Via Instagram: @grimcmv
Ep7 | Thiago Alves

Ep7 | Thiago Alves

2020-11-1701:07:48

The American Dream. Before becoming a professional UFC fighter, Bareknuckle fighter, and MMA coach, Thiago Alves was born and raised in Brazil and started training martial arts at the age of 12.  By the age of 17, he fought in his first professional fight and by 19 he traveled to the US alone with aspirations to become the world's best MMA fighter.  His approach to training, fitness and nutrition is what makes him one of the deadliest men in MMA. Thiago is a dedicated family man with the desire to become a police officer after he retires from his fighting career.  Let's just say if you resist arrest...may God have mercy on your soul! Enjoy.
This episode will briefly discuss the "50/30/20" training approach for Law Enforcement.  These guidelines can be seen in previous posts and was mentioned on the "Cleared Hot" Podcast.  I developed this opinion based on my personal experience as a law enforcement officer, training and talking with experienced police officers and just being heavily involved in the law enforcement and training community. These guidelines are percentages of what law enforcement officers should be training on a regular basis on/off-duty and/or revamping current standards of mandatory training for these particular disciples all while taking into consideration other post/state standards. I will be doing another episode with a guest to really go down the rabbit hole on this topic. Enjoy!
Ep5 | Scott Puckett

Ep5 | Scott Puckett

2020-11-1056:00

Ever see the movie "The Expendables"? Well that's basically Scott Puckett. Scott is the real deal and proud to call him my friend.  After leaving the Marine Corps, contracting overseas with Blackwater, then spending several years as a police officer (Patrol, SWAT, etc)  he brings years of vetted knowledge and experience to the table. He is now the Director of Operations at a training complex called The Sawmill Training Complex. Enjoy!
What do you get when you mix a jiu jitsu purple belt, active patrol sergeant, SWAT officer, competitive shooter, and OIF Marine veteran? Well, you get Andrew Keith. In 2015, Andrew earned the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor by saving the life of a Tennessee HP sergeant from his patrol car that was on fire from a collision with a semi-truck. Andrew brings a lot of experience and knowledge to the table. Enjoy the Q & A. Reach out to Andrew: Via Podcast: Gunjitsu Podcast Via Instagram: @armedthreatsolutions
Ep3 | Bob Keller

Ep3 | Bob Keller

2020-10-2955:54

The most experienced gunfighter I personally know, usually toting a glass of whiskey and a cigar.  Bob Keller retired as a Master Sergeant in 2020 with over 20 years of experience in U.S. Army special operations. He has over 1,000 real-world direct-action hits where he hunted down high value targets and conducted hostage rescue operations.  It was a honor to have him on the show. Enjoy.
Ep2 | Suresh Madhaven

Ep2 | Suresh Madhaven

2020-10-2301:44:53

Suresh Madhaven is a 13 year Law Enforcement veteran and Founder and CEO of 221B Tactical.  What an incredible story: raised by a single mother, first black police officer in his agency, from biotech, to a Law Enforcement career, to developing a successful business. Truly a self made man.

Ep1 | Amy 5.56

2020-07-2801:04:12

Welcome to the Be Effective Podcast!  I am your host, Adam, and on today's episode I have the real deal for you.  I will be talking with firearm instructor Amy 556 who's first exposure to formal firearms training was as a newly hired peace officer for the State of Alaska 15 years ago.  Amy has coached hundreds of students in law enforcement training.  Although her foundation in shooting is rooted in strong, disciplined Gunsite-derived doctrine, Amy did not become an excellent shooter until she started competing. Today, we discuss how she became a firearms instructor, how often she 'dry fires', and how she differentiates between good and bad information.  I hope you enjoy my conversation with Amy today and please leave us a 5-star review on iTunes!
