GMHS was formed in 1912 to address community concerns regarding cruelty and abuse of animals in the Middle Peninsula. Primarily concentrating on livestock in the early years, GMHS' focus shifted to advocating on behalf of "companion" animals as the area became less rural and populations grew in the 1970s, which is when the first physical shelter was built. In July 2009, GMHS moved into the state-of-the art shelter facility Middle Peninsula citizens and homeless animals now enjoy.
April Martinez is the CEO and shares with us from the heart about the good they are doing!

Jared Miller; Financial Advisor with Mass Mutual of Commonwealth
MassMutual is a mutual company. That means we don’t have shareholders. Instead, our members and participating policy owners are often described as sharing in our ownership. This generally means that, if you’re insured under one of MassMutual’s individual, participating whole life insurance policies, for example, you are a member entitled to vote for our Board of Directors. And if you own that participating policy, you may be eligible to share in any dividends we may declare.
As a mutual company, we operate for the benefit of our members and participating policyowners. We manage the company with a focus on their long-term interests and are not subject to the expectations of Wall Street analysts or stockholders. Throughout our history, this focus on the long-term has helped us provide financial and retirement security to millions of people. And while they're not guaranteed, we've consistently paid dividends to eligible participating policyowners since the 1860s. Our success is reflected in our financial strength ratings1, which are among the highest of any company in any industry.
"I am prepared to assist clients with their financial plans and help them meet their long-term financial goals. I work closely with my clients and can also work with you. I will assist you as you:
Define your personal financial goals
Develop a financial strategy that can help you achieve these goals
Suggest suitable products and solutions based on your own tolerance for risk and your time-frame
Implement your strategy with products and services that help meet your needs."

Susan Radosta; an Organ Transplant recipient that has been featured in the Williamsburg Nextdoor Magazine and Virginia Gazette.
Susan shares some of her story and how there's a gigantic need for more folks willing to donate organs to help others.
United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is the mission-driven non-profit serving as the nation’s transplant system under contract with the federal government. We lead the network of transplant hospitals, organ procurement organizations, and thousands of volunteers who are dedicated to honoring the gifts of life entrusted to us and to making lifesaving transplants possible for patients in need. Working together, we leverage data and advances in science and technology to continuously strengthen the system, increase the number of organs recovered and the number of transplants performed, and ensure patients across the nation have equitable access to transplant.

From Jeff's website: I was raised in a dying one-industry town smack in the middle of Flyover Country. I came up a Chicago Cubs fan, subsisting on a diet of Hostess fruit pies and Pepsi in glass bottles. I checked out every book in our public library about anywhere other than there. For college, I fled as a refugee to New Orleans where I did a lot of growing up. Luck shone a steadying light my junior year in Scotland, where I learned to drink stout and met my wife.
Three children arrived in five years but I proved myself unable to stick to a job. I caromed from stockbroker to bomber navigator to attorney to international consultant to law professor, picking up an assortment of degrees from Syracuse, Georgetown and Harvard along the way. I’ve lived in three foreign countries, been to another 70, and still feel I haven’t seen much. All this in no way—or maybe in every way—qualifies me to write books.
I’m writing a trilogy set around the First World War and I’m percolating another seven or eight novels and a dozen short stories, so I don’t fear boredom. I live in Virginia with my wife where I do a little teaching and law on the side.

Jason and Brandi McNeely, active duty military, owners of Heroic Apparel in Toano VA
Heroic Apparel was born out of a desire to create something that would honor America’s heroes, big and small. I’ve always been a t-shirt kind of guy. To me, a great shirt is like your favorite blanket. It just FEELS good. So I decided to marry up my love of the perfect shirt with my desire to create a brand that would unite people from all different backgrounds and all walks of life.
In many ways, each of us is a hero to someone and Heroic Apparel strives to bring that to life. This is just the beginning for us. Our first launch tells the story of our love for America, our military and first responders, and our family. But as we grow, we will start to incorporate shirts and apparel that honors ALL heroes. We aren’t here to talk politics or to push an agenda, we just want to make great apparel that represents and honors all Americans. Inside each of us lies a hero. Whether you serve in the military, serve your community, or serve your family, we see you and we appreciate you.
ABOUT US
"I’m Jason and I guess you could say I am the brains behind the operation, but don’t tell my wife that! I joined the US Navy in 2007 and continue to serve on active duty today. My wife, Brandi, maintains a full time career while also helping me build this brand and run day to day operations of the business. Our daughter, Kherington, helps us by fetching shipping labels and packing slips. Occasionally, she provides artwork for the packing slips, so don’t be surprised if you are the lucky winner of a Kherington original!"

Kevin Clark Jones is a busy man... He's Athletic Director at Hampton Christian Academy, General Manager at Silver Hand Meadery, and co-Owner of Mangata Coffee and Tea.
Hampton Christian Academy exists as a coeducational, college preparatory school that encompasses pre-school through twelfth grade. The mission of Hampton Christian Academy is to provide our students with a Christ-centered, quality, academic education in a Biblically-directed learning environment that prepares them for leadership and Christian service in the community and in the world. For more info, visit https://www.hamptonchristianacademy.org/
At Silver Hand Meadery, it's our passion to rediscover and reimagine, not just mead, but everything. Though mead is an old drink, we are not attempting to recreate what it once was. Our rediscovery of mead seeks to reimagine and reinvent mead, to bring it into current times, and make it relevant for today. We carry this principle of rediscovering and reimagining into the meadery in other ways. From the brick and corrugated metal on the walls, to the use of old barn wood and old doors to create our bar tops and tables, we want to use old things of beauty and give them a new purpose.
Our mission is simple: To create exceptional meads and unique experiences so that our guests can savor what is good together. https://www.silverhandmeadery.com/

From underthestarsfarm.com
Under the Stars Farm was born out of the desire to bridge a gap, find a solution and create an experience for others. I had been traveling 180k miles a year for my corporate job. My relationships at home were okay, but strained. I was ready to start a new career and instead God called me to focus on my family.
After spending 18 months planning my retirement from a 22 year career in Corporate America, we transplanted to Virginia because a surgeon made a life altering mistake that took the use of my husband’s right dominant hand. My husband and I flew around the United States in search of a doctor who could repair the damage. After 12 months, 4 surgeries and a move cross country, my prayers changed. Instead of strictly praying for Billy’s hand to heal, I prayed for peace in our situation and circumstances. As my prayers changed, God bridged the gap between our circumstance and my childhood dream.
OUR MISSION
My parents taught me at a young age to use my God given talents and to bless others in ways only I could. Our mission here at Under the Stars Farm is to utilize the blessing of this farm and the surrounding land by providing a place were we can help others create moments & memories that last a lifetime.
As a little girl, I wanted nothing more than to live on a farm surrounded by animals, and the people I love. I dreamed of a home where our land could support our family, and serve the community. The unforeseen changes in our family led us to a Gloucester, Virginia. This farmhouse built 1842 is where we now call home.

Liz Lyon has an MS in psychology, is a qualified child mental health provider, and has a BS in exercise physiology with concentration in community health. She's the early intervention director of the Rural Infant Services Program (RISP).
The Rural Infant Services Program (RISP) provides support for children from birth to three years of age who may have developmental delays. Much of a child's future takes shape in the first years of life. This is a unique "window of opportunity" and is a time of discovery and a time to learn the basic skills that will last a lifetime. But not all children grow and learn at the same pace. Some children need extra help to learn new skills or other ways to master basic skills.
Liz shares her passion! Early intervention services for infants and toddlers have proven to be a very worthy investment in the future, with considerable long-term benefits. Longitudinal studies of early intervention programs have documented the long lasting effects and cost benefits of early intervention, which stretch from preschool to adulthood.
