Today I’m giving you some really simple ways that you can up your branding for your music online. Branding does go far beyond visuals, but I always find visuals are a good place to start, especially as most of the time people will see you before they hear you!Bands mentioned in the podcast as examples are: Tonight Alive, Ocean Grove, Amyl and the Sniffers and Parkway Drive. For more tips, come connect with me on Instagram – @monicastrutCheck out my free Facebook Group Music Marketing & Mindset for Heavy Bands/MusiciansIf your band wants to work with me directly, hit me up at contact@monicastrut.com! This episode is a bit of a catch up on some of the things myself and my clients are working through given the COVID pandemic has caused us to postpone and cancel plans. This month I hit a massive milestone where I made more money in my business than I did in my day job. This is something I've been working towards for a long time. I've spent many years in jobs that were unfulfilling and now I am working for myself from home (or cafes, a park, wherever I like). I have the ability to design my day in the way I choose and for me, there is no other way I would have it, especially as I have a serious band and I'm focused on having success with.If you want to start or grow your business so that you can earn a living doing what you love, I would love to help you make that happen!Send Business Coaching enquiries to contact@monicastrut.com.If your band wants to work with me on your next release, hit me up via email too or Instagram - @monicastrut.Get my free Spotify Playlists Cheatsheet - www.monicastrut.com/spotify
Today we're talking all about the BIGGEST mistake I see bands making when releasing new music! Those who know me (especially my clients) know that I can sometimes be pretty blunt and brutally honest. Today I chat with Tony 'Jack the Bear' Mantz who is not only an esteemed mastering engineer based in Melbourne, Australia but also a master of life. He has been a mentor to musicians and up and coming producers for a number of years through his workshops, podcast, 'Mastering Music Mastering Life,' and social media and what this episode brings is a genuine chat about how to make it in music, cultivate relationships in the industry and most importantly, look after the most important relationship you'll have - the one with yourself.Connect with Tony via http://www.jackthebear.com.auFor more tips, come connect with me on Instagram – @monicastrutCheck out my free Facebook Group Music Marketing & Mindset for Heavy Bands/Musicians

In today's episode, I go through something that I teach in my online courses and membership which is the six steps to releasing new music! Many smaller bands are missing one or more of these steps and whilst step number six is optional in my opinion, it will give you added traction on your release! I hope this clarifies things for you and helps you plan your next single, EP or album!Don't forget to subscribe!PR Made Simple (use code ‘SHRED’ for 20% off)For more tips, come connect with me on Instagram – @monicastrutCheck out my free Facebook Group Music Marketing & Mindset for Heavy Bands/MusiciansIf your band wants to work with me directly, hit me up at contact@monicastrut.com! Have you ever reached out to the media to get featured and never hear back? As someone who has worked in media for 7 years, usually this is because a) You're not reaching out at the right time b) There is no real goal in mind as to why you're reaching out OR c) You've left off important information from your press release i.e. the email that you send with your pitch. I've done a few episodes on pitching so make sure you check out episodes 10 and 13 which are interviews with my friend Curtis who is a rock/metal publicist! Also episode 25 with Greg from Metal Injection! But I really wanted to break things down super simply and tell you EXACTLY what is involved in putting together a press release as well as flatten a few of the most common mistakes I see bands making when reaching out for media traction!Full show notes: bit.ly/BeinginaBand46PR Made Simple (use code ‘SHRED’ for 20% off)Check out the Daily Music Business Podcast here. This episode was prompted by my Facebook memories reminding me I finally visited LA as an adult two years ago!  When I was in high school myself and the girls I was in a band with put all our spare cash into a kitty to eventually move to LA after graduation. We weren't a very good band but we were so determined to succeed that we would have done anything - even live in our cars in the Sunset Strip! The memory of that determination is something I've often called upon when I've felt alone or like the whole 'music thing' is not for me.  I hope you enjoy this little insight into an important part of my journey and the power of community, especially if like me, you've often felt like an outsider.Join the Being in a Band Membership a membership for business-savvy musicians to gain knowledge on how to get their band to the next level and support each other in the process.
