Stories shape us more profoundly than facts ever could. A public speaking coach once told me that if a picture is worth a thousand words, a story is worth a thousand pictures. We rarely remember the actual tactics from lessons or speeches, but the stories stay with us. Earlier this year, I brought in a storytelling coach to lead a workshop for coaches and content creators. We spent the day in this beautiful library room in Oceanside, California, listening to stories, telling stories, and learning what makes stories truly impactful. The experience was so profound that I invited workshop attendees to submit stories for the podcast, and I couldn't choose just one - I had to share three. Listen in today to hear from three remarkable women - Michelle Reyes, Jennifer Townsend, and Noreen Noble - who will share insights from our storytelling workshop along with their own powerful stories. Have you ever looked at someone who seems to handle life's challenges with grace and thought, “I wish I was that strong?” Here's the truth that might surprise you: There aren't people who are mentally and emotionally strong and people who are weak. There are just people who know how to access their inner strength... and those who haven't learned how yet. In this episode, I'm breaking down exactly what inner strength means and why it matters. You'll discover three specific behaviors that weaken your access to inner strength and seven practical strategies to strengthen it. Our brains generate around 70,000 thoughts per day, and we can't control all of them. The random, bizarre, or negative thoughts that pop into our heads are just part of being human. The real question isn't how to eliminate these thoughts entirely, but rather how to work with them effectively. Tune in this week as I address persistent, unwanted thoughts today by sharing three practical strategies for handling those stubborn thoughts that seem to have a mind of their own. You'll discover why fighting against unwanted thoughts actually makes them stronger, how to use your brain's natural tendencies to your advantage, and why sometimes the simplest solutions are the most powerful. This week, I’m answering three listener questions from the podcast hotline that tackle some of the most challenging aspects of emotional life. From understanding why certain people trigger unexpected tears, to navigating the complex world of parenting teenagers and setting boundaries, to exploring what it really means to process versus neutralize emotions, each question reveals universal struggles we all face when trying to make sense of our inner experiences and relationships. Their skepticism makes sense though. Tune in this week to learn why you don't need anyone else to believe in your dreams for them to be valid or achievable. I'll show you how to pursue your goals without damaging your marriage, find creative solutions when your spouse isn't on board financially or time-wise, and set appropriate boundaries if the negativity becomes destructive. The constant swirl of opinions, research, and personal stories around GLP-1 medications has created a perfect storm of confusion for anyone considering this path. Between the people who swear by it, those who condemn it as "cheating," and doctors recommending it left and right, the noise can be overwhelming. Tune in this week as I share my own journey with GLP-1 this year, from the 20-pound weight loss and stabilized glucose levels to the surprising reasons I ultimately chose to stop. You'll learn how to make clean decisions about controversial health choices, manage others' opinions without letting them derail you, and most importantly, how to separate morality from medicine when it comes to your own body. Friendship comes with expectations we don't even realize we carry. When someone we've known for years suddenly changes how they interact with us, or when differences create distance, the pain feels real and personal. Yet beneath these friendship struggles lies something more fundamental - our unexamined beliefs about what friendship actually means. This week, I explore why friendship is actually a thought, not a fact, and how this perspective shift can transform your relationships. Through a caller's question about losing friends and struggling to make new connections, I unpack the hidden expectations we place on friendships. Most of us dream about superpowers that would save us time and energy - the ability to be in multiple places at once, to control outcomes, or to accomplish more with less effort. But this desire reveals something deeper about our human nature: we're designed to make an impact. Tune in this week for a replay episode where you’ll learn practical ways to move beyond the seven common obstacles that keep most people stuck in crisis or consumption mode. And I share why making an impact through creation isn't just something nice to do, but is essential for living at your highest potential. When your spouse doesn't open up, doesn't communicate the way you want, or seems emotionally unavailable, it's easy to believe that connection is impossible. This is a story many women tell themselves. But what if this belief is actually what keeps you stuck in frustration and resentment? In this replay episode, I sit down with my mentor Brooke Castillo to explore a radically different approach to marriage. We dig into why feeling connected to your spouse has nothing to do with whether they share their feelings or help with the dishes. Brooke shares her philosophy on unconditional love and why she believes your spouse's only job is to be there for you to love them - not to meet your needs or follow your manual for how a good spouse should behave. AI can crank out a week's worth of content in seconds. But just because you can doesn't mean you should. The same tool that promises to revolutionize your coaching business might be quietly eroding the foundation it's built on: trust with your clients. In this episode, I share specific ways to harness AI's benefits without sacrificing your authentic voice. You'll discover how to co-create with AI rather than delegate to it, when disclosure builds more trust than convenience, and why the future might demand more live, face-to-face interaction than ever before. Many of us have desires and dreams we want to pursue, but we get overwhelmed by the magnitude of our goals or discouraged by past failures. The key is breaking down these big objectives into manageable pieces while leveraging our brain's natural problem-solving abilities in a strategic way. That’s why this week, I’m sharing how I’ve achieved anything significant in my life. Whether you're aiming to lose weight, grow your business, or accomplish something that seems impossible right now, this systematic approach will help you get there. Have you ever noticed how some people seem to grow stronger through their challenges while others stay stuck in their pain? The difference isn't in what happened to them - it's in how they processed it. This week, I explore the critical difference between letting painful experiences continue to hurt us in the form of trauma, versus transforming them into wisdom that makes us stronger. Drawing from both coaching experience and personal stories, I break down specific strategies for processing difficult moments from our past in a way that serves our growth rather than limits our potential. What role do you play in the world? Rather than seeing ourselves as separate from the problems or challenges around us, we must recognize that we're active contributors to everything from family dynamics to economic trends. In this episode, I break down how awareness of our involvement creates more patience, understanding, and connection with others. Through this lens, we discover our power to become part of the solution rather than unconsciously contributing to problems. I just wrapped up a powerful coaching session with a fellow coach who's stuck, spinning, and second-guessing everything she’s doing. After helping her uncover the brain drama at the root of her problem, I decided to share that coaching session right here on the podcast. Tune in this week as I help my client identify the specific thought patterns keeping her stuck, and learn practical ways to talk back to your brain when you’re spinning in indecision. Disclaimer: this episode touches on mental health, addiction, and suicide. What if the most meaningful chapter of your life hasn't even begun yet? Many women think their most important work is behind them once their children are grown. However, my guest this week believes this mindset is not only limiting but potentially harmful to our relationships, our families, and our communities. In this eye-opening conversation with inspiring philanthropist and mother of six Kristin Andrus, we explore why women should be expanding rather than contracting in the second half of life. As someone who has built a life around contribution rather than duty, Kristin offers refreshing insights on finding purpose beyond the traditional roles we've been assigned. Wow this episode answered all the questions I woke up asking myself this morning, incredible, thank you SO much for sharing 🙏
perfect
I needed to hear this today! Gave me all the feels and definitely perspective. Thank you, Jody! I'm excited to read your book.
It’s frustrating listening to an episode for the first time about not beinng judgmental and hearing judging words about the occupation of cutting hair in the middle of this podcast. As a hair stylist, it’s hurtful when you put in hard work and people think you have a “rough” life or that you don’t make any money from your occupation. Also- it’s a barber shop or a salon. Not a hair cutting place.
👌

Hi dear Jody, I've listened EP 271 more than three times. I learn a lot from you😊
it's good 👌
its important to realize that our thoughts have a value, and that they were not free. we have to pay attention to the solar system and try to believe that they are angels among us. (planets are angels.) and they offer us inspiration to live up to, but inspiration is not free. our identity has the opportunity to develop with these angels, but its not free.
I am a man of no faith in God! I listen to your podcast from time to time and I really enjoy your ideas, but, I subscribe to an alternative source for my optimism. I don't believe that its necessary to answer our questions that have no answer with, God. my spiritual orientation is centered by the Sun! I have learned that our solar system satisfies my questions that Christians ignore for fear of becoming modern. our walk with the solar system as a human being is important for our success after we expire! I believe that in this life we score points for our participation, and that this life counts for our success after we die. can you add to my understanding?
Thank you this was the best one for me because I struggle with my church and thier thoughts about me as a coach. Thank you for sharing!!
I needed this❤
Love this podcast. I've always been told I have a choice in how I react, this explains how to do that, how to feel different. Thank you! Another thought, you mentioned not loving your wardrobe - check out 'dressing your truth' - I actually love my wardrobe since trying out her method.
I started wearing my hair curly in July! it's been such a growing process of learning how to do my curl and learning to embrace my natural look.
amaizing! thank you for your wisdom
Thanks for sharing. We have so much in common with our thoughts, reactions, energy, etc. My friend recommended your podcast and I love listening to you and have recommended you to my friends!
