Cassie Barrette is the Podiatry and Diabetes Foot Service Coordinator at Western Health in Melbourne. Since 2005, Casie has been working in private practice, community health and acute care health settings in the area of high risk foot across organisations throughout Melbourne and the NHS in the UK. The Diabetes foot health service at Western Health was one of the first to be accredited by the National Association of Diabetes Centres. In this episode, Casie talks about the role, purpose and referral process of a High Risk Foot Service.
Dr Michelle is the Podiatry Research Lead at Monash Health and has over 13 years of clinical and research experience in the prevention and management of high-risk foot conditions. In this episode, Dr Kaminski discusses the importance of consistency of care delivery, improved patient outcomes, informed clinical decision making, and how to use the best evidence available in the context of lower limb wounds and specifically, diabetes-related foot disease.
Jan Rice is Wound Nurse Consultant with over 30 years of clinical experience and has established a successful wound consultancy and wound education business, Wounds R Us. Jan has held multiple positions on various wound advisory boards and in 2021 was awarded in the Queens’ birthday honours with a member of the Order of Australia for her significant contributions to nursing, wound care and education. In this episode, Jan talks about a successful project delivered in 2022 for the non-government organisation – Interplast and how she and the team developed and delivered 2 educational videos focusing on offloading, an important standard of care in the treatment of Diabetes related foot disease. Dr Peta Tehan is a practicing podiatrist and academic with more than 14 years of experience. Her academic work focuses on investigating early and accurate identification of the presence of arterial disease in people with diabetes and assessing factors contributing to wound chronicity in people with diabetes. In this episode, Dr Peta discusses a range of topics including wound management, clinical podiatry and explores the benefits of clinical and industry partnerships.
Gary Bain is a Nurse Educator and Wound Care Consultant. Currently in private practice as Principal of The Wound Guy, he provides education to medical, nursing, allied-health and product-industry personnel and clinical support to patients. In this episode, Gary explains the differences between chronic and hard-to-heal wounds and their stages of healing.
Hayley Ryan is the Wound Clinical Nurse Consultant at Uniting Aged Care, is the Director of WoundRescue and holds the position of Wounds Australia Board of Directors. Hayley has presented at national and international conferences and has a proven track record of providing advanced wound care education. In this episode, Hayley discusses the burden of chronic wounds in Australia including the diagnosis, identification, challenges and what she hopes to change in the wound care space.
