In my recent Video, I have discussed the 16 Amateur teams who have officially qualified for the 2026 U.S. Open Cup Proper Tournament and the other 16 clubs who have qualified from USL League 2, National Premier Soccer League, and the UPSL Spring Season Champion. It’s a huge hire with Scholes leaving a high-ranking Premier League position but it was not as complicated to hire as one may think given the numerous connections he and an agency he is close to have to USL. LouCity is out after a record-shattering season. A great accomplishment for Detroit City who two times in three years have just snuck into the playoffs on the last day and then beaten the Players Shield winner. But is this good for USL and mericratic Soccer in General? If USL is really going to set up a three division system of promotion of relegation, they need to do away with this clunky playoff format that rewards mediocrity and tends to punish excellence.
