The future of the bitcoin economy will not only be people transacting in bitcoin, but people of all backgrounds, educations, and experiences re-interpreting their professions (and much else), through a 'bitcoin lens'. Over the last year or so, Jordan Peterson has been very critical of the quality of online discourse, attributing much of the problem to anonymous/pseudonymous accounts. He refers to such accounts as 'troll demons' or 'dark tetrad types', and has expressed his desire to see them separated from 'verified' users. While his complaints are not unwarranted, I feel that his proposed solutions are overly simplistic, and fail to appreciate the role of anonymous expression, and the dangers/downsides of trying to remove it. As a result, I invited three other bitcoiners (one anon) on to discuss the issue. In November of 2021, I was fortunate enough to be involved in the filming of a documentary about Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador. Over the last two years, the director and producer have turned it into a beautiful feature-length documentary, which highlights the incredible people and motivations behind this fascinating story / phenomenon. The Economic Situation in China has recently been attracting more attention, as a result of several economic indicators showing worrying signs. Despite it's robust growth over several decades, there have long been worries about how much has been fuelled by unsustainable amounts of debt, money printing, and the resultant over-production / malinvestment, particularly in the all-important real-estate sector. Vivek Ramaswamy burst onto the American political scene in early 2023, after announcing his presidential campaign (on the Republican side). I was immediately struck by his thoughtfulness and eloquence, but even more so by his 'radical' policy positions (which I largely support), and the detail with which he is explaining how he will execute them. Vivek appears to me to be properly diagnosing many of the issues confronting the US (and the world more broadly today), and seems to have a unique courage and ability to articulate what he believes to be the truth, regardless of the forum he is speaking in (and whatever pushback he may receive as a result). Does he just have his finger on the pulse of the zeitgeist, and is saying what people want to hear? It doesn't seem like it to me, but of course, the point is for it to not seem like that, and as such, politics is forever a domain that one should be especially sceptical of (and secondary to individual action). As a result, I invited Jordan Schachtel, an independent journalist who has been critical of Ramaswamy, and Vijay Boyapati, someone who's been on Vivek's podcast and who's been more positive on him, on the show to discuss his candidacy through a 'bitcoiner' perspective. Reed reached out to me a while back, saying that his journey of understanding bitcoin, and all the different disciplines required to do so, had ultimately led him back to god. Pedro is a content creator, communications designer / UX specialist, and the driving force behind a film project called 'The Anatomy of Bitcoin'. Though this project is still under development, parts of it are available to watch, and it appears likely to be a stunning, entertaining, and effective way to help viewers conceptualize what bitcoin 'is', and how it works.
